Hugs & Naps

"Hawks?"

No reply. You were coming home from work and wanted some affection from your bird man. You finally slid off your shoes as you entered the home.

"Keigo? You home?"

No reply again. You dropped off your things at the dining table and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge. "Keigo?"

You finally got a distant reply from Hawks in the form of a, "Yeah?"

"Where are you," you asked as you left the kitchen straight for the bedroom. Sure enough, he was face first on the bed with his wings sprawled behind him. The tips of his wings reached the floor, and it made you laugh thinking about how it was the equivalent of a growing kid that outgrew their sheets.

You pulled on a nearby hoodie and slithered your way under a wing and at Hawks' side. You immediately nuzzled next to him, to which he responded by raising his arm and welcomed you in his embrace.

You planted your face in his shoulder and asked, "You doing okay?"

"Yeah, just... I don't know. Just needed a hug, I think," he responded and turned to fully accept you in his arms. You kicked at the bed to squirm higher in his hold so you could wrap him in your arms instead. He gladly accepted your hug and he hummed as he breathed into your neck. His wings seemed to finally relax, if they weren't already, and they dropped carefully on you.

To Hawks, your presence was one of few that could really bring him at peace. Hugging you emitted a sense of tranquility because he knew he didn't have to reach unreasonably high expectations with you. He could easily slip into a state of calm where he didn't have to keep his guard up.

He pecked at your collar bones in appreciation then his hands reached your upper back to hold you closer. "Thanks, Songbird," he mumbled with a deep sigh.

You squeezed him slightly and whispered, "I needed this too."

Hawks' head moved back to look you in the eye and asked, "Did something happen at work?"

You shook your head and ran your hands through his hair. His hair was soft to the touch and your hands glided through with ease. It was a nice feeling to run your fingers through his hair. You didn't tell him, but it gave the same feeling as petting a dog or a cat—or just a pet in general.

"Nothing happened," you reaffirmed and he nodded before returning to your chest, and planted one soft kiss to your collar bone before he returned to his original spot.

You kissed the top of his head and stopped running your hand through his hair to cup his head. Your hand held softly to the back of his head keeping him in your chest as you slowly drifted off to sleep for a much needed nap.

As your head began to feel heavy and sleep slowly envelop you, you were sure you heard Hawks whisper into your chest, "What did I do to deserve you, Lovebird?"
