Seo Youngeun (KEP1ER)

| hello future

2014, korea.

"you're a japanese student here?" seo youngeun, the girl y/n met while studying in a vacation school in korea, due to the job of y/n's father, their family had no choice but to migrate a different country to the job y/n's father got that had a better salary— y/n at first felt a little hesitant with thier family's choice, but it was for the better so she had to say yes.

the first few week wasn't that bad, y/n's family had to sign y/n up in a vacation school along her younger sister, ayana.

it was for the better, they had to get use living in korea, speaking korean, living in the bustling street of their town, it was no different with japan, but it felt quite different knowing they couldn't understand anyone.

it was her second week in the vacation school and she had met this peculiar energetic korean girl who was born the same year as y/n, she was energetic, loud at specific places, but in classes she was kind of quiet and listens attentively.

right now, youngeun was trying her best to converse with y/n, but the language barrier didn't help.

y/n continued to walk towards the cafeteria of the vacation school, youngeun tailing behind her, she didn't know why or what did youngeun wanted from her, she couldn't even understand her.

when y/n noticed youngeun hasn't given up with the pursuit, y/n stopped from her tracks and faced youngeun, a stone like expression present, it gave chills on youngeun's skin as she stared back— taken back by the way she was stared at.

in english, y/n spoke. "what is it?" youngeun stared at her, confused, but slightly getting the point.

"you japanese student?" youngeun inquired, brows rising up. y/n looked at her, lips pursing as she bobbed her head as a yes.

"i'm korean!" youngeun stated, pointing at herself as she smiled, delighted, yet y/n only stared at her fingers then back to youngeun, expression unfazed at all.

"i know." y/n simply muttered.

"friends!" youngeun grinned, pulling out a handmade bracelet that was tasked as an activity in their class, pushing it on y/n's chest.

y/n huffed as she catched the bracelet, seeing the same thing but different color on youngeun's wrist.

y/n understood what that meant, bot wanting to hurt the latter's feelings, she wore it on her wrist, her lips curving in a small smile as she showed it to the other girl, who beamed and jumped.

"nice! nice!" youngeun cheered.

2017, korea.

"thanks for letting me ride your bike youngeun and taking me home." y/n smiled at 13 years old youngeun, who is also her classmate, who nodded and grinned, still hovering her bicycle.

"it's nothing y/n, anything for you!" youngeun answered, her cheeks flushing red as she adjusted her seat.

after three years, youngeun and y/n still wore their bracelets.

y/n stood there as youngeun looked down and chuckled, heaving a heavy breath, y/n tried not to cry.

after three years living in korea, they had thought they'd be permanently staying there, but it seems like it will not be true; y/n's family knew it was better to leave korea and settle back in japan.

she still haven't said this to youngeun, and she was scared to, she didn't know what youngeun will say.

without realizing, tears started falling in y/n's eyes, youngeun gasping as she noticed.

"y/n!? are you okay?" youngeun asked, worried.

y/n nodded, wiping the tears, laughing bitterly, the salty taste of tears seeping on her tongue.

"y-yeah, i just need to tell you something." y/n muttered out, her voice accidentally shaking.

"w-what is it?" youngeun asked, tilting her head to see a better view of y/n crying.

y/n puts her hands down, as she sobbed, eyes shaking as it tried to focus at youngeun's worried face.

"i-it's— tomorrow, my family and i... we're going back in japan." y/n muttered slowly, words flowing like stream of tears.

youngeun frowned, looking away.

"why didn't you tell me earlier?" youngeun asked, eyes looking down at the gray pavement, y/n knew youngeun would ask.

because y/n wasn't brave enough.

"i was scared to see your reaction, i knew it would end up like this." y/n spoke, her voice raspy. youngeun looked at her, blinking a few times before she forced a smile.

"will we see each other again?" youngeun asked, eyes staring right at y/n's, looking for a spark of hope under the dim light.

y/n curved her lips into a thin smile. "i promise."

december 31, 2021. japan.

it new year's eve and ayana had invited her to go to the nearest shrine and festival to watch the fireworks, but after a while of walking around together, ayana's friend came and took her away, leaving y/n behind.

one thing that really bugged y/n is the fact that she chose to wear a kimono thinking ayana would stay with her, guess not, sigh.

nevertheless, y/n continued to walk around the festival, checking out the different booths and sceneries, eyes trailing around every corner, just an hour left before the fireworks show.

"youngeun why the heck are you crying?" xiaoting asked her younger friend, seeing as she was crying while eating a bowl of ramen.

yurina looked at youngeun, a worried look on her face. "youngeun? are you alright?" yurina asked.

one year after y/n's departure, youngeun had met yurina and xiaoting who studied as college students to a university close to her highschool campus, they clicked, and she found out the two were dating each other.

now, yurina decided that they should celebrate new year's at japan in a well known prefecture.

even after three four years, she was now 17 and yet she yearned to see y/n again, hoping that one day destiny would be oh so kind enough to just make them bump against each other.

"i miss y/n." youngeun muttered as she took a bite on the meat, wiping her sweat and tears with her unoccupied hand.

"i wish i knew her so i can help you out." yurina stated, patting the younger girl's back.

"don't worry youngeun, just a few minutes left and we can watch the fireworks together." xiaoting smiled at the younger girl, who looked up at her, mouth full of noodles.

apparently, while they were walking, youngeun got lost and she didn't where yurina and xiaoting left.

youngeun cursed under her breath, looking around, she was alone near a shore and a small arc similar to the ones in the shrine, youngeun had no idea where she was, but she just ignored the unusual feeling looked at the scenery.

"uhm are you okay?" a voice rang from the silence, youngeun looked behind her to see a girl, who looked oddly familiar.

the girl shrieked and took a step back.

"y-youngeun!?" the girl yelled, looking at youngeun with wide eyes, index finger pointed at youngeun violently.

youngeun's face went from being confused to surprise.

"y/n?!" youngeun yelled back, holding her wrist up to show the same bracelet, oddly it still fitted youngeun unlike hers, that is hanging on her kimono.

"how did it still fit—"

"because i adjusted it! where's yours?"

y/n lifted her hands, the long sleeves of her kimono revealing the bracelet hanging from the fabrics of the clothe.

"it doesn't fit anymore so i always hang it to whatever i wear." y/n shrugged, smiling sheepishly.

then a boom from afar surprised them, without even noticing, it was already january 1, the fireworks were already firing at the dark skies.

y/n and youngeun watched with all eagerness.

youngeun looked back at y/n who was still watching, amused.

"i missed you." youngeun uttered out before coughing and laughing sheepishly, embarrassed.

y/n averted her eyes to youngeun, and smiled brightly.

"me too! i didn't expect to see you here!" y/n stated, walking closer to youngeun.

"you look a little different but the same!" y/n grinned, happily heaving a sigh.

"you look a little different, prettier at least." youngeun stated, her cheeks flushing red.

"youngeun!"

"youngeun-chan!"

two voices called out, both y/n and youngeun looked from afar to see xiaoting and yurina walking towards them.

"where have you been?" yurina asked, worried.

xiaoting scratched her nape. "we've been looking for you, did you see the fireworks?" xiaoting asked.

youngeun nodded then looked at y/n who looked at her.

"yeah i did! i saw it with y/n!" youngeun smiled brightly, scratching her cheeks as she blushed.

yurina and xiaoting looked at each other.

"did we disturb something?" xiaoting asked. y/n cheeks heated up, as she shook her head and chuckled. "uhm no, we just happened to see each other here."

youngeun smiled, unable to suppress the happiness spilling out of her chest non-stop.

she was glad, very glad.

seeing y/n was like a late birthday gift nevertheless made her happy.
