Mo Jihye [Danielle] (NEWJEANS)

| hey it's, whatever.

y/n sat on her seat, beside her is her classmate (who turned out to be jihye's seatmate), y/n had her brows creased as she faced to the right, ranting to their classmate. "i hate that guy so much! he thinks he's all that important when he never even helped with anything! argh!" their classmate- yeseo ran her fingers over her hair, clicking her tongue as she listened. "well, what do you expect from that guy? he's all bark and no bite." she scoffed, earning a chuckle from y/n.

jihye was busy doodling on her notes but could hear the conversation clearly as it rolled past their lips. yeseo noticed the other girl's presence when she turned her head and immediately looked at y/n to shush her. with her mouth shut, y/n looked at yeseo with the 'what's up with you!?' look on her face.

"oh, wait jihye's here. did you hear what we said?" yeseo asked the taller girl who sat behind her, y/n watched as jihye looked up from her notes to yeseo who raised her brows.

jihye would never lie, so she nodded. "yes, kind of..." jihye sheepishly smiled, y/n lightly slammed her hands on her desk and looked at jihye with a frown. "hey, don't tell junghwan about this! you guys seem pretty close too." y/n said, earning a laugh from yeseo.

"don't worry jihye won't right? it's bad to spill other people's secrets." yeseo only said, smiling at jihye who looked at them and nodded, then raised her hand to pledge. "i swear i won't! junghwan talks to everyone that's why i know him." jihye spoke, eyes gracing at y/n whose expression mixed with doubt.

"really? you know that guy's a jerk right?" y/n leaned on her seat to whisper at jihye who only stared at her. yeseo watched the two with an amused smile. "well, i can't say that for sure- but he did tell me you liked him and you guys were kind of... you know?" jihye said, raising both her index finger to gesture what it seemed like close relationship of two individuals.

y/n scoffed, finding what jihye said absurd.

but of course, jihye would never lie.

"can you believe that!? that guy's even got the nerves to make things up." y/n whispered angrily towards yeseo, who shrugged. "that's a boy to you. you were too nice and friendly and now he's abusing it." y/n grimaced and rolled her eyes, knowing that the jerk must've said the same thing to others.

y/n looked at jihye. "don't you ever talk to him again or he's gonna start using you too." jihye could only nod, seeing the approval written all over yeseo's face.

"y/n you know i can't go on to the filming, i've got basketball practice!" junghwan said as he followed y/n to their cafe, classes has been dismissed and some students already left- but some of them stayed to hold a meeting for their film project.

y/n ignored the boy and continued walking. "i don't care, plus- weren't your application for the varsity team rejected?" y/n lets out an airy laugh, her steps holding power as she walked through the hallway.

like a stupid mutt, junghwan followed.

"and that's why i'm practicing harder! if you're not gonna appreciate me more then i might just quit the role." junghwan said, his voice laced with poison, y/n stopped from her tracks and turned around before stomping her feet, the heel of her shoes creating a sound that echoed against the walls.

"well do it if you can, you're welcome out! as if anyone's gonna pick your helpless ass up- plus i'm pretty sure mr. nam will never make an exam just to satisfy your ego, no one wants your lying ass anywhere!" y/n snapped, eyes fiery as it bore holes on junghwan's face, like a sharp knife ready to dig its way on to someone. though y/n can put up a brave face, she's literally about to explode- just how thick is this dude's face actually is? where does he get the confidence to be an asshole?

"if i do then who's gonna be the replacement? pretty sure you can't get someone better than me!" junghwan spoke with confidence, pointing at himself as he smirked.

y/n chuckled and clapped her hands.

"if the varsity and our professors could drop you off because of your shitty performances then i'm pretty sure we can too. and for the replacement- i have someone in mind." y/n smiled, a mischievous one, as if trying to provoke the taller guy. it worked, junghwan was pretty pissed by the words thrown at him that turned out to be all true.

"who? who is it and why are you so confident that you could just say those words to my face?" junghwan asked, putting all his confidence on his stance.

"none of your business- but since you want to quit then so be it! good luck trying to pull your marks up after this so junghwan." y/n said before turning around and making her way to their classroom.

"what are we going to do then? you just kicked the main actor out." one of their classmates said, sitting on a chair as they held the script on their hands. y/n couldn't care less, it's not like he is that big deal for them to not be able to sleep for hours because he left.

"get someone new! it's not that hard!" y/n said, slamming her hand on the table, causing most of the team to jump on their chairs. "who? it's not like we have anyone else." another one said, y/n groaned and turned her back to the team before pulling her phone out and being greeted to a message from jihye.

jihye:
junghwan told me you kicked him out?

jihye:
he told me before he didn't want to participate because he thinks the film was a joke.

y/n:
no joke is funnier than his whole existence if we are being honest.

y/n:
what did you reply?

jihye:
nothing, just told him it's his fault.

jihye:
i know everyone's doing their best there.

y/n:
yes we are.

y/n:
anyway, i'm gonna need you to come here asap.

jihye:
noted.

putting her phone down y/n sighed, yeseo stood up from her seat to look at the whole team and smiled. "i'm gonna need everyone to put their whole faith on y/n, she's our director and she knows the best. plus, if we still kept him on the role he's just gonna drag us down with his laziness." y/n nodded and looked at yeseo. "plus, you guys are so much of a ride or die for him. it's not like he brings anything on the table." y/n added.

"but our actress will back out if ju-."

y/n cuts her classmate off as soon as possible.

"i'll replace that girl, she can fail this year with him if she wants." yeseo laughed and clapped her hands, y/n lets out an airy laugh before looking in front of her again to an empty white board. "let's just wait for jihye." like on cue, the door opens to jihye who peeked through the crack and made her way inside.

y/n approached jihye and held her hands before dragging the girl in front of the team.

"this is jihye, we all know her and she is going to be our prince." y/n leaned over jihye's shoulder, looking at the baffled girl's expression. "me?" jihye asked. y/n nodded and held the latter's hand. the team looked at each other and to jihye before nodding to themselves.

"yes, you and me." y/n smiled at jihye.

after what felt like forever, the film was finished and everyone loved it, when they got the awards y/n ran towards jihye in full speed with the certificates and hugged the tall girl, their bodies coming in contact and warmth engulfed the both of them. jihye blushed and looked at y/n, smiling ear to ear. "congratulations y/n, you did well." jihye stated, the other girl looked up at jihye and pouted.

"but you did so well too right? don't leave yourself out!"

jihye laughed at the statement.

weeks have passed, the pair that were once distant to each other got even closer- y/n would lean on her chair to converse with yeseo and jihye and sometimes seat beside y/n on their vacant.

but one specific moment when y/n messaged jihye out of blue.

y/n:
hey, tomorrow i'll see you at the cafe beside our school okay?

y/n:
9am sharp! i need you there okay?

jihye:
okay...

when jihye got the message, she was surprised, y/n wasn't the type of person to just tell someone out of nowhere that she'll meet them as soon as possible.

most of the time she'll bring other classmates or she'll only go out for class meetings but this time was different, she directly messaged jihye.

jihye:
yeseo?

yeseo:
what's up?

jihye:
y/n messaged me about meeting her at a cafe tomorrow morning, she usually doesn't do that out of the blue and directly too.

jihye:
did you get a message too?

yeseo:
you're right, she doesn't do that.

yeseo:
but i don't know... i didn't receive any message.

yeseo:
wait, i'll call her up.

jihye stared at her phone for a while, wondering to herself and she sat by her bed.

after only a few minutes she received a message once again.

yeseo:
omg, she's such an idiot.

jihye:
why?

yeseo:
and you too!

jihye:
huh? what's the matter?

yeseo:
ugh, she's asking you out on a date!

yeseo:
but ofc it's y/n she's never gonna admit that! and you, you're so slow.

yeseo:
good luck tomorrow!

jihye finds herself standing in front of the cafe, fixing her clothes as she waited.

it's only 8:45 am.

and as excited as she was, jihye made sure she comes as early as she can, so she won't disappoint the ever so strict y/n.

a pair of couple entered the cafe, not forgetting to spare jihye some looks and after just five minutes y/n came on jihye's view, the girl approached jihye and was confused.

"have you been standing there the whole time?" y/n asked, before receiving a sheepish smile and a nod. "yeah..."

y/n sighed and pulled jihye's hand. "come on." they entered the shop and found a table where they sat across each other.

"should i get you some meal?" jihye asked, holding the menu on her hands, y/n shook her head and pursed her lips. "actually no, just drinks. i won't be here for too long." y/n said to which jihye just nodded along.

ordering two milkshakes jihye watched as y/n typed on her phone before putting it down.

"jihye, i'm gonna be straightforward with you." y/n said, placing her hand on top of her other hand on the table. jihye blinked at the girl, confused.

"u-uhm?" jihye muttered.

"jihye, i like you a lot and the reason why i'm saying this as soon as possible is because if you ever rejected me i can just go home and get over it." y/n stated without a break, as if she's been holding her breath for quite too long, then she continued. "i don't know why or when, how? but—" y/n took a deep breath, looking. "i just felt like this one day when i woke up, feeling excited and, you know? funny?" though, jihye did not get it, she still nodded.

everyone knew of y/n as that flat out girl who is strict, bossy, simple and is too serious for her own good, classmates never found her to be that humorous one— she's been always late to the current trends, leading to yeseo making fun of her for it. y/n is never the type you imagine to be someone who gets bothered by romantic feelings, she looked like she'd just brush it off like a normal day then go back to studying and boys hate her for being to honest.

y/n wished she could actually just brush her feelings away.

jihye used to be one of those people who were just there in her life, has no particular role— jihye used to seat behind the class, she's pretty outgoing, everyone likes her and she gets along with quite everybody.

y/n didn't, because of her personality— which was deemed rude, some people tend to shy away from her, to which she doesn't care most of the time and sometimes, it did hurt her.

until maybe, jihye was moved to sit beside yeseo and then they'd casually ask each other questions, yeseo would be laughing with jihye and jihye would try to talk to her.

so why?

when did this stupid feelings started crawling its way inside her heart?

jihye's been hiding in plain sight all this time and then when she appeared in front of y/n's eyes all of a sudden it's serious...

worsening when they embraced each other that one time.

jihye only smiled at y/n, she said nothing but she did look down on her hand.

"well, i was expecting we'd go out on a date or something... so i didn't want you to go home just yet." jihye said, her face burning warm— her bright, sparkling eyes looked up to glance at y/n's eyes, watching her dark brown or irises.

y/n pouted her lips, feeling funny— though she creased her brows and pretended it wasn't.

"and? i want specific and concise answers please!" y/n demanded, as she always does when things aren't clear enough for her.

jihye gave her a sweet smile.

"okay, i realized that reply wouldn't suffice to your standards— y/n, you're overthinking stuff... if i didn't like you back then i wouldn't have bothered even getting here early just to see you. right?" jihye shrugged and smiled, simply showing off that side of her y/n likes a lot.

y/n opened her mouth then closed it, taking a deep breath before closing her eyes and exhaling.

"how do i say this uhm... i— i... mo jihye, i think..."

"hmm? take your time."

y/n opened her eyes and smiled at jihye.

"i think i seriously love you. i mean i know it's probably too early to say this but you just seem to be that type of person who is really easy to love." y/n is too honest, sometimes it's a bad thing but for times like this, it truly is a blessing— perhaps, that's what jihye loved about her, she never lied, she can never do that.

like what yeseo said, y/n just has a sharp mouth.

"plus, i know you'll understand what i mean right? though you've probably gotten lots of confessions like these but i promise my confession is sincere and—! you're the only one i've given such confession, meaning you're important!" y/n said with such confidence oozing out of her. jihye could only listen in awe, though she's as honest sometimes, she can never say something as bold as whatever y/n had going on.

that's just very y/n you know? she's so concise with her words, perfect and always chosen well.

with a blush, jihye giggled.

"i— that's making me flustered. i've never gotten such confession and hearing it from you feels a lot special." jihye said, she pushed a strand behind her ear. "anyway, whatever feels right for you, it'll be okay for me too. i just want to tell you that i... like you back and there's no need to worry." she added with her eyes glancing at the waiter who served them their drinks.

y/n waited for the waiter to leave and leaned on the table, poking jihye's cheeks. "squish." y/n muttered.

there's something much warmer and ticklish blossoming inside jihye's heart, how this somewhat cold-hearted, flat out girl could be childish and as warm as a sunny day.

and jihye loved sunny days.

so she gave y/n a warm smile, promising herself that she'd never waste this chance given to her.
