Kim Dayeon (Kep1er)

| birthday girl [pt.2]

note: part 2 bcs i love dayeon and angst with no comfort

"where was she yesterday dayeon?" yujin asked the younger girl, leaning from the other side of the lacquer table, a worried expression on her small face. dayeon looked down on the table, hesitant as she didn't want to make the situation worse.

hikaru's eyebrows were creased, her lips in a deep frown as she was once again ready to scold the older girl of 1 year and wake her up from her delusions.

but a hand stopped her, chaehyun's eyes met hikaru, a silent warning to be a little bit careful with her actions because what they are dealing right now isn't something that could be solve by yelling or throwing out harsh words.

so hikaru scoffed and looked down, breathing heavily.

"you looked like you cried, a lot." yeseo noted, with an emphasis with a lot, because dayeon sure did look like she didn't have enough sleep nor had time to fix herself before she was visited by her friends.

"oh, don't worry, i just— i just lacked sleep that's all." dayeon brushed off the worries from the younger girl, but it looked like she wasn't convincing enough, because hell, her eyes are red and her face looked extremely tired and worn out.

why was she even crying in the first place?

oh, because y/n decided to go to other girl's birthday party wasn't it?

maybe it was.

dayeon fiddle with her finger, before hearing bahiyyih clear her throat and spoke. "uhm so where was y/n yesterday?" bahiyyih's voice was rather— hesitant, trying to pick the right words so it doesn't hurt dayeon much.

she was, after all the most patient one and caring.

"she was... somewhere, but she told me she was gonna be late and told me to sleep already." dayeon answered, hoping that it'll help avert the topic away from her and y/n, because she cannot afford admitting that y/n once again let her down for so many times.

"really? then why isn't she here yet?" hikaru asked, looking around the shared home, trying to find at least a sign of y/n inside.

but as hikaru said, she still wasn't home yet.

"o-oh i— i don't know." just as dayeon muttered the reply, the door opened and y/n appeared, her entrance must've thickened the tension, as she stood there staring at dayeon's friends.

"dayeon." she muttered, inaudible because it was a silent demand for her to stand up.

as dayeon stood up, the attention from y/n went all to dayeon who approached y/n while she takes off her coat and placed it on the rack.

dayeon stood there, stiffly, before y/n took a hold of her hand, held it tight and she was pulled away from the living room to the kitchen, where obviously, no one from the living room could probably hear them.

everyone's eyes watched as their friend gets taken to the kitchen.

"what? what is she doing?" youngeun muttered.

y/n lets go of dayeon's hand before turning towards her with stone-like expression, empty and no emotion was seen.

"why are they here?" y/n asked, looking towards the living room.

dayeon never understood why, why y/n never ever wanted to be seen by anyone not even her friends with her, because if they were dating why does it feel so illegal or wrong to be seen together?

at first, dayeon thought it was just because y/n never liked socializing, but how and why not even dayeon's or y/n's friends can see them together.

why was she kept like a secret?

dayeon looked at y/n, mirroring the same expression but more fragile. "i also didn't know they'd be here." dayeon muttered.

"they didn't tell you they'd come?" y/n asked once more, her tone a little demanding. dayeon nodded, her eyes anywhere else but y/n's.

it felt suffocating trying too look st y/n's pair of eyes, it was dark, dim, not even a single spark or light, it was so, dead.

and dayeon was afraid to look at it.

"no, i just woke up and saw them here, i didn't know." dayeon stated, her voice in the verge of breaking down, yet held it in.

suddenly she felt a pair of arms embrace her into a hug, a hand rubbing her back as she felt her body flushed against y/n's taller frame.

a warm breath fans dayeon's neck as y/n leaned in until her lips were an inch away from dayeon's ear.

"sorry okay? i'm really sorry i only got home today, don't worry i'm here now. i just got a little too late, not gonna happen again i swear." y/n whispered, her voice laced with a thick coat of honey, so sweet and delicate.

the hug was tight, suffocating.

but for some reason dayeon felt so comfortable, dayeon's arms wrapped at y/n's shoulder, securing her back.

"o-okay." dayeon whispered, her voice low and shaky.

from the living room, mashiro could see a small portion of what was happening in the kitchen, her eyes fixated on the scene.

it worried her.

y/n pulls away, hands on dayeon's shoulders, rubbing it slowly.

dayeon stares at y/n's as they held a small eye contact before y/n leaned in and placed a chaste kiss on dayeon's lips.

"i'm going upstairs okay?" y/n whispered on dayeon's lips, before pulling away and starting walk to the living room and going all the way upstairs without paying dayeon's friends no mind.

dayeon stood there, perplexed before she trudges towards her friends, an oddly bewildered look on her face before she mustered all her energy. mashiro spoke.

"i hope this doesn't sound so personal but did she say something?" with her tone sounding so worried mashiro asked.

dayeon bobbed her head. "she said she'll just go upstairs." dayeon answered, eyes trailing over her friends who looked at each other before they avert their eyes back at dayeon.

"oh, okay. we just want to talk to you." yujin stated, smiling softly at dayeon, dayeon took a seat at the couch from a while ago, taking in the atmosphere in the living room, her mind fiddling with the thoughts of y/n.

°°°°°°

oddly, even when the car was passing through an alley that has been familiar to dayeon for so long, her heart feel like sinking and her stomach flipped at the ride home y/n's car, they are still far away from the shared home as the car accelerates through the cacophony of big trees surrounding the area.

dayeon sat on the passenger seat, her hand on her seatbelt as she breathes heavily and had her eyes on the road in front of her.

the tension was tight, it was suffocating and dayeon couldn't breath.

averting her eyes, dayeon took a good look at y/n, her eyes fixated on the road and her face with no emotion.

suddenly the car stops.

dayeon shrieks at the little surprise as the car stops in the middle of the alley, and y/n hops out of the car, slams the door and stood there mindlessly.

dayeon looked at y/n from the window, confused as with the sudden intrusion.

y/n had probably sense that dayeon was going to hop down so she spoke loud and clear.

"stay in the car." dayeon held the handle tightly, like her whole life depended on it.

"why? why did you stop?" dayeon asked, y/n turned to her, a frown on her face.

"it's suffocating, i need air." y/n simply replied.

after the events from last week, dayeon thought everything would be back to normal,

or is this the normal?

for some reason dayeon didn't know what was right or wrong, what was familiar or unfamiliar, the changes were drastic and dayeon couldn't find what went wrong.

so dayeon heaved a heavy breath, looked down and grimaced. "i'm suffocating too!" dayeon opened the car door of the passenger seat, closing it oh so gently and stomping feet as she leaned on the car, her arms crossed on her chest.

"what—? i told you to stay inside!" y/n whined, before walking towards dayeon from the other side of the car,  her frown deepens.

"can you not understand what i said?" y/n asked, her words sharp enough to cut through dayeon's heart.

"shut up. you're so selfish." dayeon countered, facing away from y/n's fatal gaze.

y/n breath hitches. "selfish huh? weren't you the one always asking for attention? stop playing with me dayeon." y/n gritted her teeth, hand on the car.

dayeon clicks her tongue, before turning her head to y/n and stomping her feet.

"says you! you're the one who's playing with me!" dayeon retorted, her voice echoing in the empty woods, dayeon flails her hands, hitting y/n on the shoulders.

"did you even care about what i feel huh!? no i'm sure you didn't!" dayeon cried, before her wrists were held tightly.

"of course i do! you're the only one who thinks that way!" y/n answered back, holding dayeon's wrists on her hands. "i never understood why you think that way! how many times do i even have to tell you!?"

dayeon pulled her wrists away from y/n's hands, wiping her tears she sobbed. "even if you say that you do so many times, i'd still think that way." dayeon muttered.

"why?" y/n asked, sighing as she rubbed her temples before trying to reach out to dayeon who scooted away from her hand.

"because, you always say the same thing again and again, but you never actually d-do anything to prove it." dayeon answered, looking down at her hands.

"so what i'm doing isn't enough? is that what you mean?" y/n rolled her eyes and chuckled, bitterly. "what do you want me to do then?"

dayeon grimaced, now that she thinks about it.

what does she want y/n to do?

there was so many things y/n wasn't able to do for her.

something that she feared that one day one of them may grow resentment against one another because one couldn't do the same for one.

"yes, the things you do for me wasn't enough. whenever you say something, do something that may hurt me, you never cared. i always do a lot for you, and knowing that you couldn't give it back is so suffocating." dayeon grumbled.

"dayeon, you know i can't b always there for you—"

"but you never really tried to be there. and then, then you'd say it's love or that you love me that's all and say sorry." dayeon rambled, before biting her lip, trying to keep herself from exploding on the spot.

"you really never called it what it was right? because i'm pretty sure it's not love." she continued.

y/n breath stops for a moment, before she held dayeon's shoulder like she always used to do. "dayeon, stop saying that. you know and you're the only who knows that i love you right? dayeon, if i ever made you feel like that, i'm sorry— it's just that."

dayeon looked at y/n's eyes, gulping the lump on her throat.

"that? you couldn't say it to other people?" dayeon questioned, and y/n stiffens.

"no, it's not like that."

"then what is it?"

fairly after a short brief of silence a car stops just behind y/n's car, stepping out was yujin and mashiro.

"dayeon!" mashiro closed the door.

y/n lets go of dayeon's shoulders, peering over the two girls who got out of the car while dayeon looks at yujin.

y/n must have noticed as she held dayeon's hand before whispering. "come on, let's just go home." dayeon felt the tug on her hands as she looked at y/n contemplating.

"dayeon are you okay?" yujin asked from her car, looking over the girl who was hesitating.

y/n was about to speak when dayeon cuts her off and lets go of her hand. "yes i am, i just need to get something." dayeon runs over the car yujin was driving hopping in at the back of the car.

y/n watches, grimacing as she sees yujin and mashiro entering once again.

"goddamit." y/n mutters as she sees yujin's car zooming out of the alley.
