Tasked To Save The World

<<LEGENDS OF TOMORROW>>

<<TASKED TO SAVE THE WORLD>>

If it hadn't been closing time, Erin would have stayed at that bar all night.

But, sadly, the bar only stayed open till 1:00am, so it was time for her to head home.

Little did she know, her life would change forever on that fatefull walk home from the bar.

-----------

Rip Hunter, set out to recruite nine heroes and villains to take down the worst threat he has ever faced; Vandal Savage, and Erin Cooper was on his list.

"Next stop, Washington DC, 2016." Rip informed his ship.

"Who is our next recruite, Captain?" The ship replied.

"Erin Cooper."

-----------

Erin walked down the dark streets of Washignton. This time at night-well, early morning- only the drunkened idiots roamed the streets. And it just so happened that some of those drunkened idiots decided to rob a small, isolated family home.

As Erin walks by the small corner house, she hears screams and shouting coming through the broken window of the small blue house.

She stalks closer to the home and peeks through the broken window. Erin catches sight of two broad men with guns, one holding a small family in the corner while the other raids the drawers and desks.

Knowing what she has to do, Erin sneaks over to the front door, bends down, and picks the lock.

The door creaks for only a split second as the women sneaks into the home.

From the hallway in which she stood, both of the robbers backs faced her.

Held in the corner at gun point, was a mother hugging her two young children; one of them a young boy, who happened to spot Erin peeking around the corner.

Erin signals for the boy to remain quiet by putting a finger to her lips.

Throwing the hood of her tight black zipup over her head, Erin prepares herself to take on the two men.

As if everything was going her way, one of the men walk around the corner, unaware that Erin is right there.

She swiftly knocks his feet out from under him and sends an elbow to his face as he falls, this causes the robber to be knocked out.

Before the robber can cause a loud 'thud' against the hardwood floor, Erin catches his head and gently sets him down.

"Guss! We gotta get out of here man!" The other robber yells. "Guss!" He yells once more.

Erin laughs to herself before rounding the corner, pulling out her weapons from behind her.

She made a mental note to thank a certain someone once again for her weapons.

"Guss is, uh, a little busy at the moment." Erin speaks, causing the robber to turn around and aim his gun at her.

A gun shot rings through the air and travels toward Erin, who bends backwards to avoid the bullet.

"You really shouldn't have done that." States Erin. Without responding, the robber charges at Erin with a knife raised in the air.

Erin laughs to herself, "Shouldn't do that either, but suit yourself."

She moves her right shoulder back to dodge the knife that the robber throws at her. At such a close distance to the robber, Erin grabs his shoulder with her left hand and uses her right hand to punch him in the jaw.

He stumbles backwards and Erin uses the few spare seconds to find a phone. She spots one on a table nearby.

Erin steps onto the table and grabs the phone. She tosses it to the mother who is still in the corner and she jumps off the table toward the robber.

She uses her momentum to kick the robber in the chest, this sends him back into a window that shatters at his touch.

Erin turns to the mother of the two children and says, "Call the police." The mother nods her head and begins to dial.

Erin turns her attention back to the man who is just getting off the ground. As he stands, a few shards of glass fall off of his shoulders which Erin takes note of.

The robber charges at Erin once more and at the last minute she ducks down, sliding across the floor and allowing his feet to give out beneath him.

Erin grabs a small shard of glass and whips back around, the glass connects with the mans arm that was also swinging around to punch Erin.

With one swift kick to the head, Erin knocks out the robber.

She stares at the mother and her two children for a split second, long enough for the mom to nod thank you to her and for Erin to nod you're welcome back.

The sound of police sirens sound in the distance and upon hearing these, Erin makes her exit by jumping out the already shattered window.

She lands on her feet and begins to run toward the backyard of the home she was just in. Before Erin jumps the brown fence into the tiny backyard, she puts away her weapons.

She runs through the play set in the middle of the backyard and jumps the back fence into a neighbourhood playground.

The playground is deserted and Erin takes note of one other figure in the park.

She thinks nothing of the figure and keeps running.

"Ms. Cooper." Erin stopps running at her name. She turns around to face a man emerging from the shadows.

"Who are you?" Erin asks, whipping out her knives from her pockets.

The man that spoke earlier steps into the light illuminating from the street lap placed on the walkway infront of her. The man wears a long trench coat that swishes around as he walks.

"A man who will change your life forever." He speaks, before Erin has any time to react with her knives or transform, a bright white light is flashed before her eyes, knocking her out.

-----------

Erin awakes but does not open her eyes right away. She can feel gravel digging into her back and hears other people shifting around her.

She slowly opens her eyes to see her suspicions are true, other people are around her.

But she quickly closes them again due to the rush of aches that course through her head.

The two people that had appeared to the left of Erin were unrecognizable to her. A man and a woman dressed in bird costumes.

Erin sits up, grabbing her head as she does so. People talk in the distance to each other, "Stein, what the hell are you doing here?" She hears a man snarl.

"I'm as ignorant as you, for once." The man, who Erin guesses is Stein, replies back.

"Where are we?" Somebody else askes. The voice sound's familiar to Erin, but she can't figure out who the voice belongs to.

"Why don't you ask the dude who knocked us out and kidnapped us?" Another man speaks, "British dude with a flashy thing, ring any bells?"

"E?" Someone speaks.

Erin forces herself to open her eyes. She hadn't been called E in years. Nobody called her that except- her eyes adjust to the person standing overtop of her, Sara.

"Sara." Erin happily breathes.

Erin stands up and joins in a hug with Sara.

"You're really here?" Sara asks her friend.

"Yeah," Is Erins response, "It's really me, I'm here."

Somebody coughs awkwardly, separating the two from their moment, "Sorry to inturupt your little moment but we need to get started." A british voice speaks.

Everybody faces the voice as the same figure from earlier speaks once again, "The name's Rip Hunter. I'm from East London, oh, and the future."

Erin tosses a confused glance toward Sara, who returns the same look.

"Nice to meet ya, Rip." One of the guys says, clearly reaching for a gun of some sorts he has in his belt.

"Uh, while you were incapacitated, I may have tampered with your weapons." Rip explains.

The man who was reaching for his gun gives Rip the dirtiest look you could imagine.

"So, uh, I'm going to ask the question on everybodies mind; what the hell are we doing here?" Erin speaks up.

Rip steps forward, "I've assembled you all here because I need your help. The future of the world is in peril because of a man named Vandal Savage."

"That can't be." The couple in bird costumes step up, the man saying, "We destroyed him."

The woman then finishs his sentence, "Yeah, the Green Arrow and Flash helped us do it."

Before the others continue to talk, Erin turns to Sara and quickly whispers, "How much did I miss?"

Sara responds by saying, "A lot."

Rip Hunter then continues talking, "And therein lay the problem, unless you or Mr. Hall delievered the death blow, Savage can be restored by a single cell."

"What the hell are you talking about?" The gun guy from earlier asks.

The bird man speaks up once again, "Vandal is imortal, Kendra and i reincarnate."

"Yeah, i've done that." Sara pipes in, making Erin hold back a laugh.

"And what the hell does this Randal guy got to do with us?" Gun guy asks.

"Vandal." Rip Hunter quickly corrects. "In the future, he will employ the evil he's perfected over his long life, and the power he has ammased throughout history, to finally conquer the world."

Rip continues by saying, "I've been tasked with assembling an elite team to stop him."

"How?" Erin speaks out.

"To travel through time. To capture Savage before he grows into the monster he becomes." Is how Rip replies.

"You got the wrong guy." Some man in a blue parka walks past Rip. "'Hero' ain't on my resume."

Gun guy follows parka guy and says, "Or mine."

Rip Hunter stops the pair by saying, "I know it's difficult for you to fathom, but where-when i'm from, the year 2166, you and everyone on this roof aren't just considered heroe's, you're legends."

"Legends?" Someone says from behind Erin.

"I, um, hate to nitpick, but doesn't a legend have to be dead?" Stein 'nitpicks'.

The man beside him says, "Yeah, see, that's a deal breaker for me."

"It's like 100 and some-odd years into the furture, of course we're all gonna be dead." Erin states matter-of-factly.

"Chicks got a point." Gun guy backs her up.

"It's dangerous for any of you to know too much about your own futures, but i am here because each of you, as individuals, is destined for greatness." Rip tells the group.

He then continues by saying "And, because if you don't follow me, this is what is in store for your world 150 years from now."

Rip Hunter presses a button on a small remote he holds in his hand and an image begins to surround the rooftop the group stands on.

It's a horrific image, fire fills the entire city and people scream in the distance. And it's not just men and woman that Erin hear, but children as well.

The image dissapears and Rip Hunter turns back to the group. "I could have chosen any time and any place. Of all the people who ever lived, i chose you nine. I certainly hope you won't let me, and the world, down."

Rip walks up to Stein and hands him a small peice of paper. "If your answer is yes, meet me at this adress in 36 hours."

With these words, Rip Hunter walks off and everybody gathers around Stein to look at the address.

Once Erin has memorized the adress, she begins to walk to the edge of the roof.

"E, wait!" Sara yells from behind her.

Erin turns around to face her best friend.

"Where have you been?" Sara questions her. She then continues, "All this time, where did you run off to?"

Sara was eager to find out where her best friend had hidden for the past 2 years.

"Washington." It was a simple answer, but it was true. Erin had fled to Washington after she had lost control of her powers, when Sara had taken the snake vemon in an attempt to free herself from the leauge.

It had been too much for her and she had completly lost it. She had made the decision to run, both her and Ollie knew it was the right thing for her and the team.

"So you just up and left for Washington because of one error you made?" Sara speaks, sounding let down but also angry.

"I couldn't let it happen again, it could have been Ollie, or Felicity, or worse it could have been you. And i couldn't give myself a chance to see if it would happen again or not." Is how Erin answers

Sara gives in, looking as though she wasn't in the mood to fight with her right now. Taking a deep breath, Sara speaks, "I'm just glad that you're back, and you're okay."

"Me too." Erin says, pulling Sara in for one last hug.

"Are you trusting this Rip Hunter person? I mean, are you going on this mission or should i just cut loose and head back to Washington?" Erin asks, pulling away from Sara.

All Sara does is laugh and say, "Go find your sister, E."

Erin laughs, then turns around to face the edge of the building once more.

The colour of her eyes flip to a brught, happy green and she jumps down, hitting the fire escape stairs 6 metres below.

She jumps over the railing and swings down two stories, she repeats this until she reaches the street.

Erins eyes change back to their usual brown colour as she looks up to see Sara's figure walking away from the edge.

Erin walks off to find her sister.

Her sister's apartment was halfway across the city so she had to make it there quick, before the sun comes up and she looses her advantage of hiding in the shadows.

Erin makes it to her sisters apartment building within 25 minutes.

She uses the fire escape at the side of the building to climb up to the 5th floor. She cracks open the window to her sisters apartment and quietly climbs inside.

Taking her time and making sure to be quiet, Erin closes the window and turns around in search of the doorway to her siblings bedroom.

It had been a while since Erin had last been in the building, so she was unsure if things had changed while she was gone.

Two bedroom-sized rooms were contained within this home and either one of them could contain her sisters sleeping space.

Erin walked over to the room her sister had been using last time she visited, and slowly opened the door.

The door didn't creak on it's hinges, but instead a gun loaded from behind Erin.

"Who are you? Turn around slowly and show yourself." The voice says, pressing a gun against Erin's back.

Erin turns around, too quickly for the other to react. Erin swipes the gun away from her back and uses her other hand to push the gun out of the occupants hand.

Using one leg, Erin kicks out the legs of her opponent sending them to the ground. She pins her opponent by stradling their body with her legs and using her hands to hold down their wrists.

"You're still relying on your back foot too much." Erin laughs at her sister.

Erin lets go of her younger sibling and stands, offering a hand to help her up.

Before her sister had even managed to fully stand, she was already hugging Erin.

"Carly, i need to breathe." Erin jokes, as her sister loosens her grip.

"When did you get back!?" Her sister cheers with excitment, while still remaining in the hug.

Erin peels Carly off of her, "Just now, but we need to talk."

-----------

"You should go." Carly blurts out. After learning of the mission, Carly knew that her sister couldn't pass up an offer like this.

"What if i loose control again?" Erin asks her sister, hoping the younger one would have the answer.

"You won't." Was her sisters answer, "I can feel it. Plus, you'll have Sara to keep you in check."

"Are you sure i should go? I mean i just got back and we need to catch up and-" Erin was cut off by Carly's voice.

"Stop making excuses. Go and be a legend." A smile present on Carly's face as she urges her sister to be a hero once again.

Finally giving in, Erin states "Okay, but when i get back we are sitting down and talking, for real."

Carly nods and stands from the couch the two were sitting on.

The siblings produce one last hug, Carly saying "Do i really rely on my back foot too much?"

Erin ends the hug with a 'Yes.' and a laugh, before the two split up and Erin jumps out the window she had came through in the beginning.

Carly peers out the window, "You know, you could just use the door!" She yells down to her. "I know!" Erin replies with a smile.

Carly smiles and watches her sister run off to save the world.

-----------

Erin spent her extra few hours learning the names of her new teammates.

Her new team consisted of Leonard Snart, Mick Rory, Jefferson Jackson, Carter and Kendra Hall, Proffeser Martin Stein, Ray Palmer, and of course, Sara Lance.

She walked to the openeing to see most of the team already there.

Erin walks up to the group, just in time to hear Ray ask, "Do people still say punked?"

"No." Erin answers, alerting everybody of her presence.

Sara makes her way over to Erin as the others talk. "I didn't think you'd come." Sara confesses.

"Well, you know Carly, she can be persuasive." Erin answers her favourite assassin.

Before Sara has time to respond, Rip appears, seemingly out of nowhere. "Well, i see you've all decided to come. Well then, we can be on our way."

Rip begins to walk toward nothing but open water.

He is only stopped when Snart speaks, "I ain't footing it anywhere."

"A Time Masters sacred charge is to do no harm to the timeline. Can you imagine what a timeship would look like in say, Victorian England?" Rip explains to the group.

"Holographic indigenous camouflage projection." Stein says in awe.

"I'm going to pretend like i understood what that ment." Erin speaks, causing a smile from Sara, who stands right beside her.

"Indeed." Rip confirms, pressing another button.

Man! What is it with this guy and buttons! Erin thinks before seeing a giant ship with the letters WR-2166 on the side.

"It's called the Waverider, it's been my ship for over a decade. Shall we?" Rip insists, leading everybody to board the timeship.

Ray and Stein babble on about sciencey stuff that Erin doesn't care to listen to. She walks through the ship, remaining beside Sara.

As they explore, Sara eventually leaves Erins side. Leaving Erin to explore, with two certain criminals following behind her.

After long moments of walking and being followed, without looking back Erin says, "What do you want, Snart?"

"Nothing." He says calmly, "Just checking out the ship."

Erin replies by saying, "Well keep your eyes on the ship and off my ass." As she walks away, she can practically hear Leonard smirking.

Once Erin is familiar with the ship she walks into the main room where everybody has begun to take their seats.

Erin sits next to Sara and pulls the restraints over her head.

"Some of you may experience some slight discomfort. In very rare instances, there will be, uh, bleeding from the eyeballs." Rip mumbles the last part.

"I'm sorry, what?" Kendra speaks up in discomfort.

"The human body is use to time unfolding linearly." The captain explains.

A quiet "Oh." escapes Erins lips but nothing else is said.

As the ship begins to rise off the ground, Jax stirs awake. "Jackson, i'm so glad you're awake! I didn't want you to miss this." Martin says as the younger half of Firestorm begins to open his eyes.

"Miss what?" The young one asks, then his eyes adjust to his surroundings and he screams, "What the!?"

Jax trys to unfasten his restraint, followed by Rip saying "Oh, no, i wouldn't unfasten those if i were you."

"Get me off of this, whatever this thing is!" He demands.

"Good luck explaining this." Sara speaks up to Stein.

"I did him a favour." Stein argues.

Snart then goes and says, "He doesn't look all that gratefull."

Stein shoots Leonard a look but before he can respond, the Captain speaks up, inturupting them both. "Just hang on and remain calm, all your worlds are about to change."

And with that, the ship took off.
