Dealing With Our Losses

//LEGENDS OF TOMORROW\\

//DEALING WITH OUR LOSSES\\

Reign longest of them all

Usually the Legends are partying by now.

They completed their mission, the Oculus was destroyed, the Time Masters ceased to exist. There was nobody protecting Savage and the Legends were free to proceed without being hunted down by anything or anyone.

What wasn't there to celebrate?

Why weren't they all laughing over some type of alchohol by now?

Perhaps it was the fact that they were now one member short.

That they had left the ship with 8 and only returned with 7.

If anything, they had begun the day with 10 and their numbers slowly dwindled down to 7.

"He gave his life for ours." Jax speaks up, his words cutting through the silence like a knife would flesh.

"He was a hero." Ray says.

When Erin thinks about it, Ray's right.

He sacrificed his life to save the 7 remaining teammates, so that they could live and find the other 2. So that they could save the world in his honour.

Although, "That was the last thing he wanted to be." Erin voices her thoughts.

"But that's what he was." All eyes move to Sara who sits beside Erin, before the ship falls silent again.

Erin watches Sara a little longer than intended, watching as she quickly wipes a stray tear from her eye.

As if feeling Erin's eyes on her, Sara turns to face the brunette.

Sara offers up a sad smile and Erin only reaches her arms out. She silently asks if Sara wants a hug.

The blonde closes her eyes momentarily and nods, which is when Erin scootches closer.

Sara leans into the brunnette and keeps her eyes closed.

She inhales Erins scent while her arms wrap protectivly around her, making Sara feel the most safe she's felt in a long time.

Sara doesn't move, neither does Erin, and she won't until Sara is ready to go.

And even then, she'll follow Sara just to make sure the blonde's okay.

Because she cares that much.

Sara stays cuddled into Erin, even as people begin to leave.

Nobody tosses glances at anyone, nobody makes any smart remarks or jokes.

All their eyes stay trained to the floor and the only sound is the echo of footsteps as everyone slowly leaves.

Eventualy, the only ones left are the two girlfriends and their Captain.

"Gideon?" Rip walks away into his office.

Erin doesn't get to hear the rest of the conversation because Sara moves in her arms.

She lets go of Sara and allows the blonde to stand before looking back at her. "I'm gonna go take a nap, you don't have to come, i'll be okay."

Erin eyes Sara wearily for a second before Sara gives her a look as to say 'trust me'.

Erin nods her head and lets the girl walk off.

Now she's alone, and she finally gets a chance to breathe.

So many things flood into her mind now.

Things she wanted to do, people she wanted to talk to.

Through all the chaos everything had just slipped her mind.

Talking to Stein, trying to talk to Mick.

Maybe now would be as good a time as ever to try and talk to Mick.

He just lost his life long partner, maybe he could use someone to talk to.

She stands from her spot and makes her way to the hall.

"Gideon?"

"Yes, Ms. Cooper?"

"Where's Mick."

The AI pauses for a moment. "Mr. Rory appears to be in the kitchen."

"Thanks." Erin mumbles.

She makes her way through the maze of halls until she finds herself walking into the kitchen where she spots Mick drinking a beer.

"You wanna talk about him?" Erin asks Mick as she walks over and fabricates herself a water.

Mick just huffs in response.

"What's up with you?" Erin finally asks, slightly slamming her water on the counter and spinning to face him. "You haven't said a word to me since our little talk back when you were Chronos."

Erin finally clues in to the reason as to why he may be mad at her. Her voice softens a bit as she says, "I'm sorry, for beating you. You hit a nerve and i got angry, and i'm sorry."

The pair stays silent for a moment and Erin suddenly feels bad about her small outburst.

"That's not why i've been avoiding you, princess." Mick tells her after a long moment of silence.

Erin doesn't say anything, waiting until he turns to face her and continues.

"If anything i deserved that beating." He tells her. "I researched your past, saw what your old man did to you. Said those things just to get at you. I knew if i could get to you that you'd break down, maybe slip up, give me a chance to escape. Blondie interfered before i got the chance."

Erin's at a loss for words, only saying "Oh."

After a moment of silence Mick turns back to his beer and continues to drink but Erin quickly speaks up again.

"So you've been avoiding me why?"

Mick sets his beer down again, but doesn't turn to face her. "I know what it's like to have a deadbeat dad. To have someone hit a nerve. It's tough, and you usually end up hating the person after."

Erin wants to question Micks past, to ask him about these things but she leaves it be for now. Mick just lost a partner, he doesn't need to relive more pain.

"So you've been avoiding me because you think i hate you?"

Mick grunts in response.

"I don't hate you, Mick."

He turns to face her now and she continues.

"Ya, it hurt. Sure, it hit a nerve and ya i broke down but it's not like it was the first time. I've had people hit worse nerves."

She thinks back to Savage and his words to her, she thinks back to hurting Sara when they were fighting off the Pilgrim, remembering only seeing her dad. She thinks back to saving her youngerself as well.

"I don't hate you." She finishes off.

"Hm." Mick tosses her an extra beer. She figures it's his way of saying okay, so she pops the top open and takes a sip.

The two don't talk no more, only drink their beers in silence.

However, the silence doesn't last long as Rip's voice echos through the room, asking the team to gather.

The two exit the room, still in silence until they reached the group gathered in the cargo bay.

Rip opens the ramp and the team follows him without question, which seems a bit odd, yet again everyone is still mourning Snart.

Erin finds her way next to Sara and slides her hand into hers as a sign of comfort.

"What are we doing back here?" Sara asks.

They all stop and face the Captain, him facing them.

"Savage now has a timeship, courtesy of the Time Masters. The Timeline is unclear due to our destruction of the Oculus."

"That's never stopped us before." Erin interrupts. But Rip only ignores her.

"Savage is lost to history, which is why i brought you all home."

"Mission's not over, man." Jax protests.

"Jax is right." Now Sara is speaking, "We lost Savage before. We'll find him again."

Rip raises his hands, probably frustrated that nobody is listening. "And then what? We have no way of killing Savage, particularily now that Kendra and Carter are in his possession, assuming they are still alive, which is highly unlikely."

"So that's it?" Jax asks, Ray adding in "We're just giving up?"

"I'm on my way to the refuge to retrieve our younger sleves and return them to the timeline. It will be as if you never left."

"What?" Jax throws his arms out, exasperated. "You think we can return to our old lives, and then pretend like none of this ever happened?"

Rip purses his lips, "Mm, that might appear to be a tad difficult. See, i had to bring you back to May 2016, not January 2016."

"Woah wait hold up." Erin releases her hand from Sara's. "Did you just say that we've been gone for 5 months?"

"My mom probably thinks i'm dead, thanks a lot man." Jax mutters.

"Okay wait, why? Why the change of plans?" Ray asks. Although Erin is certain she already knows the answer.

Snart.

Mick speaks next. "If you're getting back on that ship, we get back on that ship too."

He pokes Rip but his hand goes right through the captain.

The Waverider lifts off and Erin soon realizes exactly what is happening.

The hologram of Rip flickers, "In truth, i never left it. I'm sorry for all that i've asked of you, and that it all came to nothing. I wish you all well."

The ship dissapears into the clouds and the team is left dumbfoubded.

"Great." Erin throws her hands up. "Just great."

"I never liked that guy." Mick grumbles.

"So now what?" Sara asks.

"I guess we go back to our normal lives, what much else is there for us to do?" Stein says.

The team huffs in defeat.

"I guess this is the end of our little journey." Erin says.

"It was fun while it lasted." Ray adds on to Jax's comment by saying "Minus almost ending the world a few times, messing up a whole lot more and losing one of our own."

Everyone falls silent. Mick walks away first without a word.

"This journey was fun, but i must be getting back to my wife. Jefferson, are you coming?" Stein and Jax are the next to leave.

Ray hangs his head low and walks off silently, leaving just the two girls left.

"I better go find my dad." Sara says, "Do you want to come say hi?"

Erin shakes her head, "I should go find my sister. We can meet up later though?"

Sara nods her head.

"Lets meet right here, hows that?" Erin nods her head and places a kiss on the blondes cheek.

Erin turns to walk away, only turnig back to face the blonde when she puts a few yards in between them.

"I'll see you soon Canary."

***********

"Hey, i finally used the door for once." Erin yells proudly through the apartment. "I also may have picked your lock but that's beside the point."

She hears the pattering of small little feet and soon, stumbling from the kitchen is a small little dog.

The small retriever is only about half a foot tall but he barrels towards her like a train.

His tounge hangs from the side of his mouth and he yaps happily as he skids to a stop and jumps up, two paws on Erins legs.

"Hello there! You must be Wayland."

He yaps in response and Erin squats down to pet his soft, small head.

"Aren't you the cutest thing."

"Careful, he pees when he gets excited."

Erin's eyes shoot up, an instant smile spread across her face, the puppy leaving Erin's side to go back to his owner.

Erin is about to jump up and run to hug her sister but she stops when she notices something odd.

Carly, standing in the kitchen door, is dressed in all black, her eyes red and buffy.

She smiles at Erin but it's obvious that her smile is hiding more pain then she's letting on.

Erin stands slowly, "What's wrong?"

Without giving an answer, Carly starts to cry and within seconds Erin is across the room engulfing Carly in a hug.

"She's gone." Carly cries into her shoulder. "She's gone."

"Who?"

"Mom."

***********

It had been a few hours.

The two girlfriends had never given a specific time to meet, and because of that Erin hoped Sara hadn't been waiting long for her.

But when Erin comes upon the meeting spot she's surprised to see the team gathering back together.

Stein and Ray are holding two objects, talking to each other.

Erin only manages to catch the last bit of their conversation in which Stein says "Oh Raymond, you insult me."

Stein is the first to notice the brunette walking towards them. He smiles. "Erin, i see you've chosen to join us as well."

"Uh, y-yeah." She says.

A few seconds later she also adds in, "Are you guys getting in contact with the Waverider?"

"Trying to." Ray corrects her.

"So no luck?"

Ray clarifies with a nod of his head and the group falls silent.

Someone comes storming up to the group and when Erin looks over she realizes it's Sara, although something seems off with the blonde.

Stein is the first to speak up as he notices Sara as well, "Ms. Lance, are you alright."

Sara's eyes stay trained ahead of her and Erin knows that look all too well, it's the look of a woman on a mission, "How do we get the Waverider back here?"

"We're working on that right now." Ray says oblivious to Sara's death stare.

If looks could kill Erin would say that Hunter would be dead even galaxies away from Sara. Something defiantly wasn't right with the blonde but before Erin could mention anything the familiar whirring of the Waverider filled her ears.

"Here he is."

As if on cue, the Waverider drops its cloak and appears infront of the group.

Its powerful engine blows Erins hair infront of her face so that her eyesight is blinded for a moment.

She moves her hair away from her eyes in time to see Rip walking towards them.

Mick is the first to walk up and poke Rip, it was more like a shove causing Rip to stumble a step or two.

Sara crosses her arms her knuckles as white as snow, but she remains quiet.

"Do you mind?" Rip glances up at Mick, annoyed.

Mick's gruff voice is heard as he walks towards the back of the group, "Just making sure you were real."

"You're not ditching us this time." Jax places his hands on his hips.

Ray is the next to speak, "When the mission's over, then we go our separate ways."

"And this missions not over." Erin's last statement causes Rip to sigh. It seems none of them can figure out if it's out of annyance or defeat so Jax speaks up again.

"Yeah, just curios how much headway you've had tracking Savage without all of us."

"None." Erin feels a proud smirk grow on her face. It is wiped off quickly though, "But neither have I got myself into bar fights in 1975," His eyes scan over Mick, Erin, and Sara, and Erin feels a pang in her chest knowing that Leonard isn't there to be scolded either. "and the Old West, put dwarf star technology into the hands of terorists," His eyes moved to Ray before finally landing on Jax and Erin. "or got myself turned into a scary bird monster."

"Okay, we get your point." Erin interrupts.

"Now get ours." Jax speaks up from beside her. "That ships not taking off without us, you got that?"

Rip sighs, and this time it is obvious that it's in defeat. He motions for the group to follow and they do.

After boarding they head straight towards the bridge, "Despite my wishes to pursue Savage alone, it seems that you're all intent on seeing this thing through till the bitter-"

Rip is suddenly being punched and pushed up against a wall, it's only a minute before Erin realizes that it's Sara holding Rip.

"Talk about bitter." Mick says.

"You knew." Sara sneers, bringing a knife up Rip's neck.

"Sara, what the hell?" Erin asks calmly, hoping to calm Sara down, but nothing seems to be reaching her.

"You dropped us off five months later because you knew."

Jax is the one to ask "Knew what?'

Every ones question is answered when Sara presses the knife closer towards Rip. "You knew that Laurel was gonna die, and now you're going to take me back and I'm going to save my sister."

Erin was taken aback. Laurel was dead? How? Why?

She had known Laurel basically all her life, she had become close friends with her and owed the Lance sister her life for everything she had done for Carly and her.

And now she was gone. Jut like that. Just like her mother. Just like Snart.

"I'm afraid" Sara cuts off Rip "You should be afraid."

Rip continues despite the interruption, "I cannot allow you"

He's cut off again "I don't care about the timeline, you're taking me back now."

Erin tries once more to intervene, "Look, Sara, I'm sure Rip can give us a good re-"

Sara whips her head back to face Erin as she growls as her "Stay out of this."

When Sara turns back to face Rip he has his flash gun out and flashes it at Sara, knocking her out.

Erin reaches out fast to catch he falling assassin, handing her off to Mick who carries her away.

Erin quietly mumbles that she's going to be with Sara and follows Mick out of the room.

Mick and Erin stay quiet as they walk through the halls, an awkward silence filling the air.

All Mick does is lay Sara down in their joined room and leave without a word.

Erin pulls up a chair and waits.

And as Erin waits she reflects on everything that happened within the past day.

First, there was losing Snart.

They had all gone into that mission so confident. They all had high hopes that Savage would be persecuted, Rip's family would be saved and they could all go home to theirs.

How naïve they had been.

Now, only 24 hours later. Erin had lost three people she cared about.

Her and Snart may not have talked much but that didn't mean she didn't care for the criminal. He had given his life to save hers and countless others, she just wished there was a way she could repay him.

And although none came to mind at the moment, Erin was sure she would think of something.

Next was her mother.

Sure, her mom was never the nicest, but that didn't stop Erin from loving her.

Of course she loved Carly the most, but a part of her still adored that woman who had tried to save her, even if it had only been a few times.

She remembered Carly telling her how her mother would rush dinner sometimes just to get her father in the house. She remembered her mother arguing with her father a couple of times about even giving a second glance to his eldest daughter.

It did nothing but that didn't mean Erin didn't appreciate it.

Although she had still been a crappy mother, she wasn't so bad sometimes. And that caused a pang in Erin's heart, knowing the woman who tried to protect her was now gone.

Lastly, there was Laurel.

Laurel had been a life long friend, someone who looked out for Erin and Carly as much she could.

She had been a big sister to Erin much like Erin had been to Carly. A smile spread on Erins face as she remembered all the times that Laurel would cover for her, pretending to come and pick Carly up just so the two sisters could have a sleepover.

Laurel was always covering for the pair, not afraid of getting in trouble if she was caught. She was always willing to help out and that's why Erin loved her so much. She was family to her.

Erin didn't get a chance to think any firther when Sara stirred in her place.

Noticing the wetness on her cheeks Erin quickly wiped away the tears.

Sara came to, slowly opening her eyes and sitting up in bed. Her eyes met with Erin, who offered her a small smile.

But that wasn't enough.

"Erin," Sara stood to her feet, "You gotta help me get Laurel back."

Erin only shakes her head and stands up, "As much as i want to, you know we can't go back."

Sara sits back down, wiping a savage tear that managed to slip out. "Please, please take me back."

The hurt in her voice brought Erin close to tears and she wished more than anything that she could go back and fix it all.

More tears began to pool in Sara's eyes, falling with almost every word "Please. I can't do this without her, Laurel was one of the people who held me together all these years. I can't lose her, not like this."

Erin took a few steps closer, kneeling down infront of Sara and placing her hands overtop of the blonde's.

"You can do this. Just because Laurel's gone physically doesn't mean she isn't still with you. You keep going, and you keep fighting, and you do it for Laurel okay? You keep moving because we all know she would want you to." Erin keeps her eyes trained on Sara, even allowing tears to pool in her own eyes.

"Don't give up because of Laurel, keep going instead, for her."

Erin reaches up and wipes Sara's tears with her thumb. "Okay?" She asks.

Sara nods her head, closing her eyes and letting a few more fall. Arms wrap around her, she instantly knows they're Erin's arms that have brought her in for a hug.

The door opening causes her to pull back, though.

The two look over to Rip who clears his throat. "If i took you back, you wouldn't be here either."

A/N Hi sorry for not updating, i hope the long chapter makes up for it.

I don't have much to talk about, but i wanted to let you guys know that i most likely won't be updating as often because this summer i'm trying to stay off my phone and just enjoy the moments instead.

I am, however, publishing an Avengers fanfiction in a few days if any of you guys are interested. All the chapters are done for it so that updating schedule will actually be good lol.
