Daniella woke up relaxed and smiling but as soon as she realized it's the last race day of the season and the day she has to perform her best to win the championship she started getting nervous. Lando who was sleeping next to her work up shortly and found Daniella sitting next to him, her head resting on her hands.

"Hey," he lazily sat up, wrapped his arm around her, and placed a kiss on her cheek. "The day hasn't even started yet and you are already nervous?"

"I can't help it," Daniella mumbled. "What if I don't win today?"

"Then there is always next year," Lando replied as he rested his chin on her shoulder. "You are a rookie in your first year and you have already proven yourself, I don't think anyone will be mad at you if you don't win."

"I know an entire energy drink team who will be mad at me if I don't win," Daniella nervously chuckled. "And what if something goes wrong that messes up the race or..or my car? Or what if..."

"Ellie," Lando slightly moved forward and cupped her face. "Stop overthinking. All those things that you are worried about are outside of your control, okay?"

Daniella slightly nodded.

"So just try to clear your mind and try to enjoy the last race," he softly said before pressing a gentle kiss against her lips.

"But what if.."

"No!" Lando pressed his finger against Daniella's lips. "No more what ifs."

"Why do you look pale?" Max asked immediately after he saw Daniella.

"Because I am so nervous that I think my soul left my body," Daniella replied as she let out a shaky breath.

"You know one of the reasons I love you is because you never let go of your humor even when you are nervous," Max said as he threw his arm around her shoulder.

Daniella didn't reply as she tried to remember all the strategies. She would have preferred a lot better if the champion was decided a couple of races before the last one, at least then she wouldn't have been as anxious as she is now.

"Dani, calm down," Max gently patted her back, trying to help her relax. "You will do just fine, and I will be there with you till the chequered flag to help you win."

"Please keep a getaway car ready in case I need to escape after I lose to Lewis."

"Okay, I will keep the car ready," Max laughed.

***

As soon as Daniella put on her helmet and sat in her car all her emotions went away, and now replaced by only the aim to finish the race ahead of Lewis.

"All the best Dani, we are all counting on you," Christian said to her before moving out of the way and taking his seat at the pit wall.

Daniella let out a deep breath as she looked at the red lights and as soon as the lights were out she and Lewis started to race each other.

Lewis was quick to take the lead but Daniella was very close behind, challenging him and his position.

Lando sadly went wide and lost his third position and is now down to fifth and Max moved up to fourth.

Daniella managed to overtake Lewis on the fifth lap but he quickly took the position back but she was not backing out and around the next corner she once again overtook him. Max was closing up behind Lewis, putting him under pressure.

After the tenth lap Daniella went in for her pit stop to change tires and Lewis once again got the lead. But as soon as Daniella came out of the pit lane and was behind Carlos at P6 Lewis was called in for his pit stop.

Max got the lead as Daniella got past Carlos without much fight.

Lewis came out of the pit lane and easily moved up to P2 but Max was doing a great job defending his position. Lewis tried to overtake him many times but failed. Max threw away the original plan that Christian expected him to follow and instead raced and defended just like Daniella asked him to.

Soon Daniella moved up to P3 but not close enough to overtake Lewis and gain P2. While Lewis struggled to overtake Max, Daniella was getting closer.

Lewis finally managed to overtake Max and Max gave up his position to Daniella immediately.

Around lap 35 Daniella finally managed to catch up to Lewis but he is defending his position like his life depended on it.

They went back and forth for the next five laps but Daniella didn't manage to overtake him.

"Box Dani, box," Nate told her and she immediately went into the pitlane.

Luckily she came out with a new set of hard tires right behind Max and once again he gave up his position.

Lewis started complaining about his tiers but was advised not to go for his pit stop in fear of losing his position.

With her fresh set of tires Daniella managed to catch up quickly and his now almost wheel to wheel with Lewis and he was struggling to manage his tires and defend his position against his opponent.

Lewis put a spectacular performance but on lap 50 Daniella finally managed to overtake him.

The entire Red Bull garage cheered.

Lewis tried to gain back the lead but his tires made it almost impossible as Daniella increased the gap.

He cursed through the radio but there was nothing that could be done and at that moment going in for his pit stop will only cost him his second position.

For the next eight laps, Daniella was flying but Lewis struggled to maintain pace and defend his position against Max.

As the final lap started everyone in the Red Bull garage and all the fans present already had a grin plastered on their faces. It was going to be a clear win for her and Lewis was nowhere near to challenge it.

Daniella's heart skipped a beat as she saw the chequered flag and within seconds she crossed it. Fireworks went off and lit up the night sky as the audience went wild.

"FUCK YEAH!," Nate screamed as the entire crew cheered loudly. "You did it Dani. You fucking did it."

"YES! OH MY GOD!! FUCK YES!," she yelled in excitement as she slowed down. "We did it. We really did it."

"Congratulation Daniella. YOU ARE THE WORLD CHAMPION," Christian cheered but his voice cracked at the end.

"Are you crying?" Daniella asked as tears started to build up in her eyes too.

"Happy tears Dani, happy tears," the team principal replied.

Daniella finally parked her car at the number one position for the last time this year and got out. She crouched down and rested her hands and head on the front tire as she took a moment and tried to take some decent breaths but her heart was jumping in excitement.

She finally got up and took off her helmet and immediately was surrounded by her team. Nate was the first one to hug her, followed by Myra who has her family on facetime.

"You did it champ," her dad cried. "You really did it."

"Wish all of you were here," she told her family.

"DANI!" Alex pulled her into a tight hug and lifted her up. "You are the youngest champion Dani."

After Alex put her down Christian approached with teary eyes and hugged her. "You really did it huh?"

"I really did it," Daniella brightly smiled as a few drops of happy tears run down her face.

"Thank you," Christian smiled. "I really wish I haven't messed up and you stayed with her for three or more years."

Daniella didn't respond as Max interrupted.

"Couldn't have done it without you," she smiled.

"I know, I am the best teammate," he smugly replied before kissing her cheek and pulling her into a hug. "I am going to miss you."

"I am going to miss you too."

After they let go of each other Daniella went over to Lewis who looked disappointed but gave a smile when he saw Daniella.

"How does it feel?" he asked as they fist-bumped.

"Amazing, I really...it's a huge mix of emotions," she replied, struggling to find the correct words.

"I am happy for you Dani," he gave a genuine smile. "You first championship, enjoy it."

She gave a nod as he walk away.

"Can I hug you now or should I get in line?" Lando asked from behind.

Daniella immediately turned around and pressed her lips on his in front of everyone. Lando smiled and wrapped his arms around her as he kissed back.

Everyone around them got silent for a few seconds, trying to figure out what was happening before cheering loudly. They finally made their relationship public.

The couple broke the kiss and pressed their foreheads together.

"I am so proud of you," Lando said with a bright smile on his face. "My girlfriend is a world champion."

"It all feels like a dream."

Daniella knew nothing will ever compare to the current moment. She is sure it is the happiest moment in her life, winning the championship to become the youngest champion in history and making her relationship with Lando public. But she was proven wrong and this moment came second when a couple of years later Lando got down on one knee and proposed to her at a karting track. That day became her happiest day, the day they started their forever.

*** THE END ***

A/N: Race is officially over and Daniella won the championship and her and Lando has a happy ending.

I hope you all enjoyed the story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Also I was not happy with today's raceย  and how it ended so I wrote a fair clean race between Dani and Lewis.
