The End's Beginning: The Collector

LET THE HUNGER GAMES COMMENCE

---

(Y/N) (L/N)'s P.O.V.

"Hello, Primvère Rosé and Ladybug."

I gasp softly as I look at Marinette and she nods. We both enter the room.

There's a soothing atmosphere that calms me down. The old man looks at us with a happy smile.

"I know you never wanted me or Seven to bring them here but look what they discovered!" Tikki says as she hovers in the air with the said-Kwami.

"Seven?" His eyes shimmer as he lays them on Seven.

"Ah, The Primrose Miraculous..." He looks at the Kwami with great interest. "You must Master Fu..." Seven bows at him.

"It's nice to see the Primrose Miraculous up close," He looks at my choker.

Marinette tugs on my shirt, "I've...been here," She suddenly states which makes me look at her, "What?" I ask.

"I've met you before." She gestures to the old man, "You were the healer that cured Tikki when she was sick!" She exclaims and then frowns, "So...I'm guessing you're not a vet?" She asks making Fu chuckle.

"It was your first day of school when we first met. It wasn't a coincidence either," He says to her, "Marinette, you're always ready to help others and I knew that you'd make a great Ladybug!" He smiles at us with his eyes closed like he's finally happy to meet us.

I place my hand on my choker and purse my lips. "Then what about me?" I ask, "I found this Miraculous...but it was by chance..." I state to which Fu shakes his head, "Nothing is by chance when it comes to the Primrose Miraculous..." He smiles at me.

"You didn't find it, it found you and it chose you to become its holder." He states and stands up and walks over to an ancient-looking gramophone.

"Who are you?" I ask as we both follow him to it. He presses some buttons and the instrument opens up revealing a box.

"Master Fu is the last known member of the Order of the Guardians!" Tikki exclaims cheekily.

"Guardians of the Miraculous'" Another Kwami comes out of his hiding place. A cute green Kwami that resembled a turtle.

"My name is Wayzz, Master Fu's Kwami! It's a pleasure meeting you both," He says in a wise tone.

I smile, "You too!" I say to the Kwami.

Master Fu takes out the box from the gramophone and looks at us, "Guardians are responsible for protecting and distributing the Miraculouses for the good of humanity." He states and opens the box showing a display of other Miraculouses, "We're chosen in childhood and trained for many years especially for this mission,"

He then frowns, "When we were so little, we-I mean, I made a mistake..." He sighs in remorse, "The Guardians temple was destroyed all because of me..." He says and looks down.

"Three of the miraculouses were lost that day;" He points at some empty compartments, "The Butterfly, the Peacock..." He says before opening a secret compartment at the centre, "...and the Primrose, the Creator's most prized..." He gestures to my choker.

"Also gone forever was the Ancient Spellbook," He says making me look at the book in Marinette's hands.

"But it's just a book with drawings of old superheroes and strange letters..." I say to him.

"Not strange to a Guardian though..." He smiles, "Back in the day, I wasn't even allowed to look at it but taught enough to partially decipher the codes." He says.

Marinette looks at me and gives me a hesitant look. We both look at our Kwamis who nod in approval.

She hands the book to Master Fu.

"This book has various spells that give the superheroes powers we don't know of..." He says as he flips the pages, "...until now. This book is invaluable!" He continues to finish making me look at Marinette with wide eyes who gives me the same expression.

"S-So, you're saying..." I speak, "...that we have more powers?" I ask making him nod.

"There are more things that this book contains other than spells, it also has some information." He states as he gestures us to sit on the table before us. We oblige as he brings out the book in front of us and flips the pages. Seven, Tikki and Wayzz play around behind us, giving us space to talk.

"I've always believed that the person who has hands-on this spellbook also has the Peacock and the Butterfly Miraculous..." Master Fu says and looks at us.

Something clicks in my mind. "You mean...whoever owned the spellbook could've been...Hawkmoth?" Marinette asks hesitantly. I choke on my saliva when he darts a look at us.

"Where did you find this book?" He asks us immediately making me panic.

"W-We...uhm..." Marinette stutters as she can tell that I don't want him to know.

"My miraculous led us to it..." I lie, quickly biting my tongue after I say those words, "W-We found it in a bench!" Marinette exclaims next making me nod immediately.

"You didn't see who had it?" He asks. I calm down once I notice no suspicion in his tone.

"N-No..." I purse my lips, remembering the recent events that took place.

'Adrien...'

I sigh sadly as his image pops up in my mind.

Seven gives me a questioning look. I signal her not to say a word.

"What a shame..." The old man says, "For a moment, I thought that we could've found out who Hawk Moth is and maybe we could've defeated him..."

I gulp slowly and look at Marinette apologetically.

"We could investigate if you want..." Marinette suggests making me look at Master Fu. He closes the book.

"You must be very careful when you do for should you find out, you might be standing face-to-face with Hawk Moth." He says.

Marinette and I nod.

"We'll do our best!" I say as we both stand up and rush out of the shrine.

Seven slides into my pocket and asks, "Why did you lie to Master Fu?" I look at Marinette and Tikki who seems to want to know the answer too.

"I'm sorry. I...couldn't bear the thought of him knowing that it was Adrien who had the book. The worst thing right now is knowing the possibility that Adrien is a villain who we've been fighting with this past few months..." I say which makes Marinette sigh.

"Well, what if you're not wrong?" She asks which makes me stop dead in my tracks.

I feel a rise of anxiety in my chest.

"Adrien as Hawk Moth?" I could feel myself stop breathing at the thought.

"T-That would mean I'm in love with a supervillain! B-But I'd have to fight him! OH MY-"

"Calm down!" Marinette holds my shoulders, "Breath in and out!" She instructs me making me do so.

"Where do we find him?" Tikki asks.

"He's probably taking fencing lessons now..." I say way too quickly which makes Marinette raise an eyebrow.

"How would you know that?" She asks making me blush, "Nevermind! Let's go!" I say as I rush towards school.

Once we reach our destination, my eyes scan the courtyard for Adrien yet he's not here.

"Maybe he's in the lockers?" Marinette asks. We head for the boys' locker room and check it out discreetly. He's not there.

"This is weird..." I say, "Something's up. Adrien never misses his fencing classes..." I state as we turn to check.

"He's probably stuck doing Ms Mendeleiev's homework!" She says as she leads me up to the classroom, eyes searching for beautiful blonde hair and green eyes. Just then our attention is diverted.

"NO!!!" We hear someone cry down the hall. We both follow the familiar loud obnoxious sound coming from the classroom.

"This is a tragedy!" We see Chloe slumped down and crying with Sabrina comforting her. I walk towards the group. "What's up with her?"

"Adrien's dad grounded him for life..." Kim says making my eyebrows furrow in confusion, "Why?" Marinette enquires.

"Something about losing a major, important book that belongs to his dad," Nino says and my head snaps towards Marinette.

'Is it...?'

"A b-book?" Marinette asks making him nod.

"Belongs to his dad?" I continue and both of our expression turn glad.

"Oh, no. What a tragedy!" I say imitating Chloe's words, "If we could only do something! We won't stop until this is averted!"

Marinette and I slip out of the room and rush to the bathroom.

I lock the door so no one can come in.

"I knew it! It's not Adrien's book! It belongs to his dad!" I exclaim giddily.

"But that doesn't change the fact, according to Nino, he did take the book without his father's permission..." Marinette says making me stop. "He probably had a good reason for it..." I suggest as I lean against the wall.

Seven pops out from my bag with a blueberry in hand, "You do realise that based on Master Fu's theory, Gabriel Agreste might be Hawk Moth!" She says which makes me look at her. My eyebrows furrow, "Mr Agreste? No way! I couldn't be!" I defend but the more I think about it, I hesitate.

"Unless..." Marinette starts, "We know that Adrien's father is an eccentric artist who never leaves his home. Mysterious and cold...even to his son..." She explains making me smirk.

"We just got ourselves a strong hell of a lead!" I say excitedly.

"Please be careful, you two..." Tikki says in a concerted manner. We nod at then and each other. "We will!" We say in unison.

We both transform thereon and jump out of the window to the roof of the school.

I pull out my whip and retract it so I can contact Cat Noir.

"Has the cat got your tongue? Leave a message!" I groan when he doesn't pick up.

"Cat Noir! I think we've got a pretty good idea who Hawk Moth is! Get your whiskers over here fast!" I say and put my whip back. I fall back into a weary sigh.

"This might be it, you know?" I say to Ladybug who grits her teeth.

"If it is..." She mutters, "We'll be prepared." She smiles making me nod.

"Let's go," I say and we swing away.

---

"Where the hell is that cat?!" I grumble as we stand on top of the Eiffel Tower where Cat Noir should have met us half an hour ago.

"I swear if he doesn't show up now, I'll-"

"You'll what?" A familiar cat climbs towards us from the bottom. He has the same overwhelming smirk that sticks to his face, "Punish me~? You know I love to be-"

"Don't finish that sentence," I say as I grimace at his words.

"Did you get the message?" Ladybug asks making him nod. "Yeah, and I sure want to know the details!" He says enthusiastically.

"Well, suspect number one..." I pause for a while, "...is Gabriel Agreste..." I say.

Cat Noir stumbles when he hears that looking at us with wide eyes. "G-Gabriel Agreste?" He looks a little offended.

"What about suspect number two or three?" I can sense shock in his voice.

"Well..." I twist my head to look elsewhere. "He's our only suspect..." I mutter making him look at us with a rageful expression. "And I'm supposed to accept that?! Where's your proof?" He asks making me sigh.

"We can't disclose that yet. But you have to trust us..." Ladybug says making me look at him. His expression grows cold making me purse my lips tightly.

"But get this!" She says, "Check out his brand logo!" She pulls out her yo-yo and shows me a picture she showed me earlier.

I see him tense up.

"A-A butterfly..." He stutters and places a hand over his lips, thinking for a while.

"You okay?" I place a hand on his shoulder yet he shrugs it off.

"Let's get to the bottom of this..." He mutters and pulls away from the building as he heads towards the Agreste mansion. Ladybug and I follow suit.

We enter Mr Agreste's atelier from the oddly open window.

"Woah..." I look around, surprised to see the studio all torn apart.

"Looks like someone had a tantrum..." Ladybug comments as we investigate. My gaze saddens as I look at Adrien's photo discarded. My eyes widen when I realize Adrien must be in his room.

"He has a son! Let's check his room!" I say as I lead towards Adrien's room.

We're interrupted by a loud guffaw on top of the staircase. A villain stands there with a book in hand.

"Where's Gabriel Agreste?!" Cat Noir screams making him smirk.

"There is no more Gabriel Agreste! There is only the Collector!" The villain yells and throws the book at us. Ladybug dodges it one second away and it engulfs the entrance door, making it disappear.

We hurry on to the living room as he chases us and desperately tries to capture us. "You won't escape!" He says as we battle him. He grabs his book back like a magnet and throws it at us once again.

Cat Noir throws his baton towards it. "Wait!" Ladybug yells but it's too late. The book sucks in his baton in a second.

The Collector chuckles defiantly.

"That's weird..." I mutter under my breath as I stand back. Something's fishy.

"What's wrong, m'lady?" Cat Noir asks.

I shake my head, "Nothing..." I say.

I grab a chair and throw it towards the Collector for a distraction. As the book engulfs the chair, we take the time to escape and hide on the other side of the staircase.

"The Akuma's gotta be in that book!" I say to them.

"But how are we going to get to it without being sucked in?" Cat Noir asks. I look at Ladybug.

"Lucky Charm!" She activates her power and a bike pedal falls on her hands. She looks around with her lucky vision but shakes her head.

"I don't know what it's needed for. We have to stall him!" She says before the staircase vanishes.

"You three will be the masterpieces in my book!" He laughs as he attacks us.

Ladybug uses her yo-yo to pin the villain down. He smirks and uses his book to capture her yo-yo.

"No!" Ladybug exclaims as she dodges from an incoming attack.

We jump up on the hallway verandah and look at him.

"This is great! If Gabriel Agreste has been akumatized, there's no way he's Hawk Moth!" Cat Noir says with a huge grin making me look at him in disbelief, "Great?! What about Mr Agreste turning into the Collector do you find great?!" I yell at him as the railings disappear with the said-villain's book.

We enter Adrien's room and block the entrance. My eyes search for Adrien.

"How is his son not home?" I ask making Cat Noir's head snap towards me. "Maybe the Collector already captured him!" He says making me gasp. Ladybug's eyes furrow, "You think he'd take it out on his own son?" She asks. Her question making me grit my teeth.

"Well, who doesn't these days?" I mutter under my breath in a pained tone, but they must've heard it considering that they look at me with concerned eyes.

"You're not getting away!" The Collector takes out the barricade with his book.

"His book...what if he has no pages left in his book?!" I exclaim making Ladybug look up towards Adrien's CD racks.

"You do whatever you gotta do, Ladybug! I'll stall him!" I say as the Collector finally enters the room. I attack him.

Ladybug snatches Cat Noir's belt and wraps it around the foosball table with the bike pedal, "I need ammunition, Cat Noir!" She says and points to the CD racks.

"Got it!" Cat Noir says and uses his Cataclysm on Adrien's shelves, causing a bunch of CDs to fall onto the floor.

"Any time now!" I yell as I struggle to take the hits from the Collector.

"Ready?!" Ladybug calls out. "Now!"

Cat Noir throws the CDs at the foosball table as Ladybug turns the pedal, launching the CDs toward the Collector. I jump up to help him.

He swiftly uses his book to capture and dodge the CDs, smirking when he sees Ladybug struggle.

The CDs soon run out. "No ammo!" Cat Noir says making me look at the Collector inch closer and closer to Ladybug.

When he gets his chance, he attempts to traps Ladybug who steps back. But in vain, as the book's pages are filled.

Ladybug smirks and kicks the book out of his hands.

I take this chance to grab the book with my whip. "No! My book!" He yells and chases for it but I toss it to Cat Noir who rips it in half.

The Akuma flies out.

"Time to de-evilise!" Ladybug captures the Akuma and de-evilises it.

"Miraculous Ladybug/Primrose!" She throws the bike pedal and I shoot an arrow in the air. Everything goes back to normal.

"Pound i-"

"Mr Agreste!" Cat Noir rushes to the man frantically, leading me to confusion. He kneels and picks him up.

Mr Agreste looks at us, concerned. "Cat Noir? What's going on?" His eyes widen for a second.

"Where's Adrien?!" He yells making me put a hand on his shoulder.

"I'm sure he's fine, Mr Agreste..." I say with a smile even though I, myself, am worried about Adrien.

"No more injustice in the world and here's a token from a rose~," I chant as purple roses form around me and then hover towards him. A small brooch appears around his collar.

'That's weird...' I feel a sense of déjà vu as I look at the brooch.

"Thank you to the three of you..." He says as he looks at the brooch and for a second, I see a hint of...disgust-Nah, my mind's just messing with me.

My miraculous beeps, "Well, I'll see you around!" I say to them before taking my leave.

---

"So...that means Gabriel Agreste's isn't Hawk Moth since he's already been akumatized!" I say to Master Fu as Marinette and I sit on his futon in the middle of the room.

He looks at us, "How did you find out Gabriel Agreste was the owner of the spellbook?" He asks which makes me look at Marinette. She nods at me.

"Well, initially, we thought it belonged to his son, Adrien Agreste. We saw him with the spellbook with Adrien in school, but before it was stolen by a girl and also before Marinette got it back..." I pause nervously waiting for his reaction, "You see, we just met you and...we...I mean, I wasn't so sure that we could tell you that..." I finish with a loud inhale.

Master Fu hums as he processes the words I just said to him, "So, you did it in the fear of knowing that your loved one might turn out to be Hawk Moth," He says and smiles at me making my eyes widen.

"L-Loved one? How did you-I mean, what are you talking about?!" I say in defence which makes Marinette chuckle.

"Yeah, she loves him," Marinette says amused, with a grin. I pout, feeling betrayed.

He looks at me with an assured smile, "You know, if we want to be stronger than Hawk Moth, we have to trust each other."

I nod, feeling more of the guilt seep into me.

"It's okay to love someone, (Y/N)...it's a feeling best left undescribed!" Master Fu's words strike me hard. But I frown immediately as he says that.

"I know...but what's the point? Adrien's never coming back because we can't just give him the spellbook back...I'll never ever see him again..." I let out a sad smile and look down.

"Every problem has a solution, (Y/N)." Master Fu says making me look at him.

Marinette furrows her eyebrows, "So...we're just going to give the book back?" She asks in a confused way.

"Yes, but first..." The old man gestures Marinette to give him her cell phone. He sits down and starts taking pictures of all the pages of the spellbook. "There modern inventions are quite incredible." He comments as I smile.

---

"So, when we saw the book, it was intriguing because it had so many pictures and symbols! We knew it belonged to someone in school but didn't know it belonged to Adrien. We also didn't think it would lead to such consequences..." I explain to Mr Agreste as I fidget with my hands nervously. Marinette, standing next to me, looks at him with a sheepish smile, "We're sorry about this misunderstanding! Here..." She holds out the book which Nathalie takes hold of.

"So you found it in the school library?" Mr Agreste who is standing on the top of the staircase asks us. I nod with a guilty feeling.

"Yeah! That's where we last saw Adrien too!" Marinette covers up making him nod.

"That's a nice neckpiece..." He says and looks at me, gesturing to my choker, "May I ask, where did you get it?" My eyes widen, taken aback by the sudden question.

"I..." I look at him a little confused, "It was gifted to me by my mother..." I say. He nods in appreciation,

I then bite my lip, "Are you going to tell Adrien about how you found the book?" I ask but he shakes his head to my relief.

"Are you going to let him come back to school?" I ask one more time.

"Well, considering he didn't actually lose it as it was borrowed by the both of you, there's no harm in letting him go back." He says making my lips form a wide grin.

"Thank you, Mr Agreste," I say and look down.

Nathalie escorts us out of the mansion. "By the way..." Marinette turns back making me look at her.

"We went through the book and there were so many cool illustrations of legendary heroes. It was really inspiring!" I could see the suspicion in her eyes, "Where did you find it?"

Mr Agreste raises an eyebrow at us but says, "I found it on a trip overseas with my wife. I've never seen another copy of it." He states and she smiles.

"Then you're really lucky to have it!" She says and we head out fo the mansion.

"That was..." I grin widely at her, "AMAZING!" Marinette squeals after me.

"What you did for Adrien was so brave!" Seven pops out of my pocket and hugs my cheek.

"All that matters is that Adrien can step out of his prison of a house!" I say which makes Marinette chuckle.

---

"Something is bothering me, Seven..." I say and I jump on my bed, "What's wrong?" Seven, popping a blueberry into her mouth, follows me as I turn towards her.

"It's weird...when Mr Agreste was akumatized, I didn't feel the piqûre effect...and there's no way the miraculous would have a defect..."

"That is weird..." Seven says thinking deeply.

"There's no explanation to it...and it only seems to have affected on Adrien's dad, who also happens to have a spellbook belonging to the Order of the Guardians," I say, trying to piece together what I'm saying.

"You're right..." Seven looks at me, "What about when he was Akumatized?"

"I don't know..." I say, "But whatever it is..."

"I'll be keeping an eye on him..."
