hard cases

It had been a week since Spencer and Lexie's date. They both became swamped with work and didn't have the time to see one another, but neither could get the other out of their mind.

Spencer was away on a case and Lexie was busy studying up for her boards, even though the tests were months away, Lexie wanted to start studying early. She wanted to call Spencer, their date ended with an amazing kiss. Lexie was in shock when we pulled his mouth onto hers, but she immediately kissed back. their mouths moved in sync for what was like hours. When the two eventually came out for air she looked into his eyes, her face bright pink. He was breathing heavily from their little make-out sesh. Lexie was the first to break the silence

"Wow," she said breathlessly.

"Yeah." he breathed. The two then walked back to Spencer's car and he drove her home.

"Lexie!" Her co-worker Sam yelled at her.

"Huh?" Lexie looked up to see her rounds group waiting for her, she was staring at her phone trying to decide if she should call Spencer, but now she was going to be late for rounds.

"Oh I'm so sorry!" she apologized and gathered up her white jacket and stethoscope and headed to start her long overnight shift.

Spencer shifted in his chair frustrated. The team was on a case in Kentucky and they were stuck. It was a hard case involving children so everyone was on edge. on top of an impossible case, he couldn't stop thinking about Lexie. When he kissed her he felt actual sparks. He had never felt anything like that before, the feeling engulfed him. He flipped his phone in his hand wondering if he should call her. He built up the courage and sent her a quick text asking how she was doing. He knew she was at work, but he wanted her to know he was thinking about her.

"Reid!" Derek Morgan called from the doorway. Reid turned to face him and Emily Prentiss who was standing with Morgan.

"They found another body, Hotch wants us at the crime scene" Reid nodded in response and followed Morgan to the FBI black SUVs. Reid was looking out the window in deep thought. What if Lexie doesn't text him back? Is she even interested in him?

"What's on your mind Reid," Morgan asked. Damn profilers.

"U-uh it's nothing Morgan," Spencer mumbled. Morgan scuffed, Spencer knew he didn't buy it, but thankfully he dropped the subject.

They arrived at the crime scene and evaluated yet another dead body. Spencer was so unfazed by stuff like this now. He had been in the BAU for almost 10 years now, dead bodies were just the norm. This scene was different, it was a young child who had been poisoned and then positioned to look like they were playing, this scene would stick with Reid.

"His M.O hasn't changed," Reid said looking up at Morgan who was also observing the scene.

"Nope, he's still a sick son of bitch." Morgan said.

The two gathered what they needed from the scene and head back to the police department. Spencer checked his phone but frowned when he noticed Lexie hadn't responded. He shook it off that she was just busy at work and didn't have time to respond.

Lexie sat on the hard wooden bench in the resident locker room, she really missed the Seattle Grace resident lounge sometimes. She had had a hard day, she lost two patients in the ER from a car wreck, a parent, and a child. She hated seeing young people die, especially children.

Suddenly a person was sitting next to her.

"Hey, Lex." Caroline smiled at her.

"Hey C." Lexie put her head on Caroline's shoulder.

"You were on that car crash case right?" Caroline asked. Lexie nodded her head. "I'm sorry Lex, I know that was hard."

Lexie shrugged. She picked up her phone realizing she hadn't checked it all day. She gasped, realizing Spencer texted her. She was starting to worry he wasn't interested.

"Spencer texted me!" Lexie said sitting up to face Caroline.

"Text him back!" Caroline almost yelled.

"Ok ok," Lexie laughed. She sent him a text saying 'I'm doing good, had a hard case, and my shift was long. How are you doing?' She was excited about his response.

Lexie and Caroline gathered up their stuff and head home, completely worn out from a 24-hour shift. Lexie jumped in the shower and washed off the past 24 hours. Her mind once again shifted to Spencer. His short chocolate brown hair and his bright eyes. His eyes hid so much, Lexie wanted to help him fight all his demons and get through whatever's going on up in his head.

She got out of the shower and threw on a big t-shirt and shorts. All she wanted to do was curl on in bed and go to sleep. She threw her wet hair in a bun and laid down in her bed to check her phone before she went to bed. To her surprise, Spencer had responded.

'I'm sorry about the difficult case, we're in Kentucky working on a hard case as well. I should be heading back soon, want to meet for dinner again?'

Lexie smiled as she read the text. She responded,

'sure! I'll be looking forward to it, text me when you get home. :)'.

She put her phone on the nightstand and rolled over into a deep sleep, thinking about the next time she can see Spencer.
