dinner talk

"Hey" Spencer answered the door with a nervous smile on his face.

He was more nervous than he'd care to admit. The last time he went on a date he didn't even end up having the date. He left to protect Maeve. Maeve. She was always in the back of his mind, Spencer didn't think he'd let any woman in as he did with Maeve. He didn't want his job to hurt another person he had grown close to.

"Hey" Lexie greeted with a huge smile, she was looking forward to this night. She liked Dr. Reid.

Spencer handed her a small bouquet of roses that he'd brought her. She had told him that dark red roses were her favorite flower when they had lunch together.

"You remembered!" Lexie spoke as beamed at the flowers.

Spencer looked down at the girl. She looked amazing tonight, he hoped he looked good enough. He was wearing a white button-down shirt with a light brown sweater vest on top, a dark brown jacket covering both. He wore brown slacks and his converse, of course.

"Ready to go?" Lexie asked looking up at the man, only to see him staring down at her. Red spread across her cheeks as she looked back down sheepishly.

"Yep," Spencer responded. Lexie gave the roses to Caroline and said her goodbyes, to which Caroline responded with a wink.

Lexie and Spencer walked down to Spencer's car and loaded in. "So, where are we going?" Lexie asked curiously.

"My favorite Italian place in all of Virginia." The male responded as he drove out of Lexie's apartment complex. The two made small talk during the short drive. The nerves were practically filling the car to the brim. After Spencer parked the car he walked over to the passenger's side and offered his arm to Lexie, who gratefully accepted it by wrapping her arm around his and laying her head on his bicep. Spencer flinched at her action, but relaxed when she didn't move her head away.

The couple was seated right by the window, right where Spencer reserved. They ordered their drinks and made small talk until they ordered their food. Lexie was starting to regret wearing her white dress considering everything on the menu included bright red pasta sauce.

"You look beautiful." Spencer suddenly said. Lexie's face immediately went a bright red, she looked down at her lap smiling.

"Thanks, you look very nice as well," she said softly looking back up at Reid. He was smiling right back at her. Something about this girl was memorizing Reid.

"So, I know all the basic stuff about you, tell me something a lot of people wouldn't know about you," Lexie said looking into Reid's deep brown eyes, she knows something is hiding behind those eyes.

Reid panicked a little. He had a lot of history. His mom and her illness. His drug addiction. Maeve. What does he tell her? He doesn't want to scare her off, but nothing about Spencer Reid's past was pretty.

"Well u-uh my mom, Diana, is a paranoid schizophrenic. I had her institutionalized when I was 18, but I write her letters every day and I visit her whenever a case brings us out there. My dad left us when I was young, so I know nothing about my father." Spencer looked up at Lexie after his outburst, her mouth making a small 'o' shape, her eyes wide.

Spencer knew he messed up, she'll probably never want to talk to him again.

"I'm sorry-" Unexpectedly, Lexie reached over and placed her hand on his, cutting off his sentence. He looked up at her and met her bright eyes.

"Hey, don't worry, my mother died of hiccups and my father is a raging alcoholic." She spoke with a small smile on her face. Spencer let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding.

"Thank you." He spoke softly looking into Lexie's eyes, he could see the hurt behind her dazzling brown eyes, he wanted to help her.

Their food eventually came and the two ate in silence beside the normal 'how's your food' small talk. After their dinner and a couple of glasses of wine, the two decided to take a walk. It was a warmer winter night, Spencer's favorite type of weather. The two walked in comfortable silence.

"Follow me. I want to show you something." Spencer said looking down at Lexie and grabbing her hand. She smiled at his action and laced her fingers between his.

Spencer led them to a hill at the edge of the park. The view of the city was amazing. Lexie laid her head against Spencer's arm and closed her eyes, really taking at the moment, she was so content holding on to Spencer's hand and listening to the sounds of Virginia. She knew Mark would want this for her, for her to be happy. Spencer looked down at the girl and a huge smile crept across his face, he liked Lexie. He wasn't afraid of moving on anymore. He knew Maeve would be happy with him moving on.

Suddenly, without thinking, Spencer gazed at his knuckles against Lexie's jawline and pulled her face to his, their lips locking immediately.

Who knew Dr. Spencer Reid had moves.
