23: moving forward

Everything was planned perfectly, Spencer was going to make this night the best proposal ever. He knew Lexie was scared of marriage, he couldn't blame her, he was also terrified. He didn't know how to be a husband, but he had been dating Lexie for little over a year now and she was the mother of his unborn daughter. Lexie is the love of his life and he knows it, he loves her more then he has ever loved anything else before, so marriage might scare the hell out of him, but he will be just fine with Lexie by his side.

It was a cool Sunday morning at the end of November. Spencer woke up extra early to make breakfast. Lexie's current cravings were chocolate chip waffles and bananas, she didn't even like bananas till now, but Spencer didn't mind at all. He has been practicing this recipe while Lexie was at work because he wasn't exactly the best cook.

Lexie slowly shuffles her way into the kitchen, hair sticking out and no pants under her large T-shirt.

"Good morning love." Spencer greeted her, plating her waffles and banana.

"Ugh, I hate being pregnant," she grumbled, sitting at the small dining room table.

"You have got to stop saying that, Lex." He sat across from her, giving her her plate and starting on his meal as well.

"I know, but it's true - my ankles are huge and everything from the waist up hurts."

Spencer just looked at the woman sitting across from him admiring her. Her dark wavy hair knotted in every which way, dark bags under her eyes and a big baby bump. Spencer always thought she was the most beautiful girl. No matter how bad she thought she looked, he was always taken aback by her beauty.

"Why are you staring at me?" she asked, waffle stuffed in her mouth.

He shrugged, looking back down at his meal. "We are going to Rossi's tonight for dinner."

"We are?" she asked, shock on her face

"Yes, is that okay?" He asked Rossi's house was a very important part of his plan. He assumed she would be fine with it.

"I don't have anything to wear! Nothing fits!" she exclaimed, which scared Spencer a bit.

"I'm 37 weeks pregnant, I can't even fit into pajama pants." Lexie huffed, stuffing the last piece of banana in her mouth.

"You will beautiful no matter what you wear, but we have to be there tonight," Spencer said as he got up from his chair to wash their dishes, quickly pressing a kiss to Lexie's forehead as he passed her.

Lexie muttered something under her breath that Spencer couldn't hear, something about hating being pregnant again. He wanted to lift her mood before the left for tonight, so he let her choose what they did on their day off. She decided to have a movie in bed, Spencer was just fine with that, but after two movies Lexie was bored and wanted to walk around the shopping centers.

Since it was almost December, some shops had started to put out Christmas decorations. Lexie loved to look at the garland and twinkling lights. Spencer's hand in hers, the other on her bump, she couldn't help but smile so much it hurt.

The two already had a crib and other baby furniture set up in the extra room in Spencer's apartment, they didn't want to overly decorate the room because they planned on moving once the baby was a few months old. However, Lexie couldn't help but buy more frilly dresses and shiny little shoes. Maye its because she was nesting, but she suddenly needed everything pink.

After buying four new outfits for the baby and a new maternity dress for Lexie, the two went home to get ready for dinner. Lexie had noticed that as the time clicked closer to seven o'clock, the more nervous Spencer became. He would talk fast or fumble with his hairbrush like his hands were shaking.

She had a small idea of what all this was. She was expecting it for some time. The two never directly talked about marriage, but they have both mentioned spending the rest of their life with each other. Yes, the marriage did scare the hell out of her, marrying Spencer didn't scare her, it was the commitment of a lifetime that really scared her.

Why it scared her, she doesn't know. Maybe its Mark in the back of her mind or maybe it is just downright commitment issues, but if she thought about it too hard she might just back out. Backing out of this life with Spencer is far from what she wants to do, but damn is she scared.

Maybe she is being overdramatic and Spencer isn't even going to purpose, but considering she is going to have his daughter any day now, it is safe to assume he is going to purpose.

Once she is dressed in her new royal blue dress and booties, Spencer wearing dress pants, a white button-up, and blazer the two start to Rossi's mansion. Spencer's hands slick with the sweat forming on his palms, his speech playing over and over again in his head.

Spencer Reid was never on with words, but he has to say the right thing tonight. He rehearsed the perfect speech in the shower tonight. Managing to mash everything about how much she changed his life and how much he loved her. All into a minute-long speech, unfortunately, when he pulled into Rossi's driveway, everything seemed to slip his never-forgetting mind.

"Where is everyone else?" Lexie asked, noticing no one else's car was in the driveway, not even Rossi's.

"Don't worry, they will be here," Spencer said getting out of the car.

He looped his arm around hers, leading her into the backyard instead of through the whole house. She looked up at him a little confused, but she let him lead her into the yard. Her jaw-dropping when she saw what the yard was decorated with.

Large lanterns hung up around the entire yard. Fairly lights circled around a large table with a place set for everyone. Finally, a white gazebo was placed towards the back corner, more soft lights illuminating the structure.

"Spence..." Lexie breathed, her eyes wandering around the beautiful scenery.

He didn't say anything, he just slowly brought her over to the gazebo. He stood in front of her with her hands in his, just admiring her. "You are so beautiful," he whispered.

Lexie knew what was happening, she knew she didn't want it to stop. She felt her amazingly intelligent brain melt into absolute mush when he got down on one knee.

"Alexandria Caroline Grey, you make my world spin, I am so in love with you that I don't even know what to do with myself - you and I, we are going to have a daughter soon and I am so thankful that you can give me that gift." Lexie covered her mouth with her hand as tears rolled down her cheeks.

"I didn't think I could ever find love again, but you definitely proved me wrong - So will you please marry me?" Spencer finished, looking up into Lexie's love-filled eyes.

Lexie felt the entire world stop. The wind stopped blowing, the leaves stopped falling and she stopped breathing for just a second. When she says, yes!, her whole life will now be with Spencer Reid. she took a deep inhale, making sure her lungs were filled so she could tell Spencer just how happy being married to him would make her.

"Yes of course I will marry you Spencer!" she exclaimed, her smile reaching both her ears.

Spencer quickly pushed the perfect ring onto her small finger, standing up quickly. He put his hands on her cheekbones, pulling her lips into his. Electricity shotting through his entire body, he felt like he was in euphoria. He was marrying Lexie Grey.

Suddenly cheers erupted throughout the yard, the team had exited from the house. Letting off party canons and Gracia was holding a cake for everyone. She quickly put it in the middle of the table and brought Lexie and Spencer into a tight hug.

"Yay, if anyone deserves each other, it's my favorite geniuses!" she smiled brightly.

"Well thank you all, for all of this is it very wonderful." Lexie smiled, "But I'm going to have to put things on hold, my water just broke." she said seriously.
