20: popping a question

Lexie's pregnancy progressed quickly before she knew it, she was already 20 weeks. Spencer stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks, but when he went home, things weren't back to normal. He needed help doing most daily tasks, like showering and getting dressed for a few weeks, but his recovery was going smoothly. His abdomen was still sore, and his headaches didn't get better.

"Spencer! I'm a neurosurgeon, please let me take you in for a check-in." Lexie pleaded with the man. 3 months after the accident and he was still having headaches.

"I'm fine, I promise." He replied.

"I have my twenty-week appointment today, we'll be there anyways, please Spencer."

Lexie was worried, very worried. When her patients were still having headaches like this, it usually meant there was another bleed. She wished he wasn't so damn stubborn, all she wanted to do was help him.

"Let's just focus on your appointment today, we get to find out the gender today, let's just have a good day." He smiled down at her, pressing a small kiss to her lips.

She wanted to be mad at him, but it was impossibly hard to be mad at Spencer Reid.

"Fine, but you're making breakfast." She huffed, a smile creeping onto her face.

"Of course dear." He said rolling out of bed for the day.

Getting out of bed and getting ready for the day was slowly becoming harder for Lexie. Her bump had grown quite a bit, she even had to buy maternity scrubs. She found herself wearing Spencer's shirts and maybe a pair of pajama shorts. Summers in Virginia were nothing like the summer in Seattle, the heat made Lexie want to walk around naked all the time.

Today, however, the fall weather slowly started to show. Fall wasn't too far away, Lexie was grateful for the chilly days in late August.

Eventually, she rolled out of bed and walked into the kitchen. The smell of eggs filled her nose, usually a smell she enjoyed, but now she found herself running to the bathroom, emptying her already empty stomach into the toilet. Of course, Spencer wasn't far behind her, holding her hair back as she hunched over the bowl.

"God I hate being pregnant." she sighed as she sat back onto Spencer's lap.

"Shh doesn't say that, morning sickness usually only lasts for 4 weeks, you didn't experience it a lot your first months of pregnancy, it makes sense you're experiencing it now."

"It's not morning sickness, it's the smell, the eggs." She sighed

Spencer's eyes grew wide, "Oh Lex, I'm so sorry, I'll go throw them away."

"No, stay here, I'm gonna throw up again." Lexie deadpanned.

Spencer chuckled, bring her hair back into his hand, making sure it was out of her way. The things this girl did to him, he hates germs, but he will sit here for as long as Lexie needs. She's doing all the hard work, he is just trying to make the experience as easy as he can. So if he has to sit with her as she throws up for an hour, he'll do just that.

.......

"Lex, you look great we are going to be late, let's go," Spencer called from the front door of his apartment.

"You're right, none of the other clothes I have here fit me anyway, let's just go." She sighed, walking out of Spencer's bedroom wearing maternity leggings and Spencer's t-shirt.

"Maybe we should fix that, you know, not have to worry about bringing more clothes over," Spencer said nervously.

He has been wanting to ask Lexie to move in with him since the crash, he was going to ask, but Hotch busted into the room with information, so he never got to. He has been thinking of different ways to ask, but it never felt like the right time. So when Lexie said she didn't have enough clothes here, he thought he should go ahead and come out and ask.

"What, you mean move in with you?" Lexie asked quickly, her eyes wide.

Moving in with Spencer was a step she hadn't thought about, she didn't know how she just skipped over that step, raising a baby in two separate households could be done, but wasn't preferred.

She doesn't know why moving in with Spencer scared her so much, she was carrying his baby after all. The thought of living with Spencer all day sounded like just what she wanted, but the thought also made her want to run away and never come back. Maybe its because she never could make it to this step with Mark, he died when they realized how meant to be they were.

It's not fair to Spencer that she's scared of progressing her relationship with him because her other relationship was cut short, she should not compare the two at all. She looks at this amazing man in front of her and her heart fills with love. She loves the way he always takes care of her, she loves the way he talks to her bump every night because it helps the baby's language skills. Most of all she loves how he loves her. When she looks at him in the eye she can see that he loves her with his whole being.

"I-I mean if you don't want to you don't have to, I just thought-" Spencer nervously rambled.

Sure he was scared of their future, but Spencer planned on marrying this girl. He saw their whole future with Lexie and their baby. He saw a big house, full of kids, him and Lexie smiling as they watched their family. Lexie's reaction to asking him to move in made this world crumble a little, maybe he was wrong about their relationship, was Lexie just staying for the baby's sake?

"No Spence, I want to." Lexie's smile made him melt like it always does.

"I- you do?"

"Yes, the future is a scary thing, but if you're there it'll be a lot less scary." She stood on her tippy-toes and placed the kiss on his cheek, smiling brightly back at him.

"I love you." He breathed, relief washing over him.

"I love you too, but we are going to be very late now." Lexie laughed, opening the front door.

"Good thing you work there," Spencer called back.

........

"Alright doctor Grey, you know the drill by now." Lexie's OB said as she squirted the cool gel onto Lexie's stomach.

Lexie smiled so big it hurt when she looked at the ultrasound machine, she didn't expect to have a kid right now, but she loved this kid more than anything.

"Looks like you're having a... girl!" the OB announced.

Spencer felt his face light up, a girl, she could best friends with Henry and Meredith's daughter. He laughed when he thought about how much pink Garcia would buy this little girl, he was in total shock.

He leaned down to hug Lexie tightly, he felt tears start to build up in his eyes, he was going to have a daughter with the love of his life.
