13: did you hear what happened to Lexie Grey?

Spencer sat in the waiting room for hours. Lexie had to go into surgery to fix some internal bleeding and fix her wrist, which was broken in 2 places. He didn't let himself cry. He just sat in that room with the uncomfortable chairs waiting. He couldn't get himself in a positive place. Everything felt wrong. If he had spoken up earlier about his theory, maybe he could have saved Lexie from this. If she died, he wouldn't know what to do with himself.

Then he remembered Lexie's family, her life back in Seattle, they had no idea what was going on. He took out his phone and dialed Meredith's number, Lexie gave it to him in San Deigo.

"Dr. Grey," Meredith answered.

"Meredith. It's Spencer Reid."

"Is everything okay?" She asked Spencer could hear the immediate worry in her voice.

"Uh well, Lexie's in surgery, the ER of her hospital exploded." He stumbled over his words, it was hard to say those words out loud.

"WHAT? What surgery? What hospital?."

"Um, something about internal bleeding and a broken wrist." He was scared. He knew a lot, but surgery wasn't his strong suit.

He gave Meredith more details. She said she and more of Lexie's friends would be over in the morning. She didn't say who, but it sounds like Lexie has a lot of people that love her back home. Caroline was brought out of surgery with a broken leg. When the bomb went off a cabinet landed straight on her leg. Spencer checked on her in her room, but the hospital had called her family, so she was alright.

"Family of Alexandria Grey?"

Spencer shot up from his seat. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.

"She's fine. She going to need some time for recovery, but she's fine." the young doctor smiled.

Spencer let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. Lexie was okay, she was alive.

"When can I see her?"

"I can take you to her right now."

Spencer's face lit up. He nodded in response to the doctor. The young man leads Spencer down a bright hallway into Lexie's room. She laid on the bed, eyes closed, IVs hooked up to her arms. The sight broke Spencer. She looked so helpless, she looked so small and frail.

He sat next to her bed, holding her hand. He finally let the tears flow. He wanted to stay strong and not let his emotions get the better of him. He didn't want to be weak, but he loved her, how could he be strong when shes like this?

He pressed a kiss to Lexie's forehead, brushing loose hairs off her face. Then he pulled a blanket over himself and fell asleep with Lexie's hand in his.

..........

Spencer woke the next morning with a terrible backache and his hand asleep. Lexie was still asleep as well. He stood and stretched, sleeping in a chair was not comfortable. He needed coffee, so, he pressed another kiss to her forehead and left the room to the coffee cart down the hall. Once he had his coffee he called JJ.

"Hey Spence, is Lexie okay?"

"She's fine, she uh hasn't woken up yet."

"I'm sorry Spence, keep us updated."

"I will, bye."

Spencer hung up the phone and walked back to Lexie's room. However, he was met with a few unfamiliar faces.

"You're gonna get yourself killed Grey, stop getting yourself in bad situations." A man who looked about Spencers age said. He had a grizzly build and was eating a donut.

"Yeah, you're supposed to be the doctor, not the patient." a young woman with curly black hair and a slim build said.

Lexie was awake. She was smiling with her friends. Spencer knew it was unfair to feel jealous, he has his team, they are his family. But seeing Lexie with her friends from Seattle, he remembers that she has a whole other life. A life she left because something big happened to her, a bomb dropped, her plane crashed. What if she left again?

"Spencer!" Lexie's small voice shook every thought out of his head.

"You're awake," Spencer said sitting at her bedside.

"Spencer? Whos this twig?" the other young man asked.

"Alex, Cristina, this is Doctor Spencer Reid," Lexie said proudly.

"Oooh, doctor huh? What's your specialty Dr.Reid?" Cristina asked, raising an eyebrow at Spencer.

"Uh well, I'm not a medical doctor, I have 3 PhDs. Chemistry, mathematics, and engineering." He gave the woman a tight smile.

"Wow, nice job Grey." Alex laughed

"Let's not scare him away, let's go get coffee," Meredith spoke up, leading the other two out of the room.

Lexie nodded to her friends as they left. Looking back to spencer, she saw the tears in his eyes. She felt guilty for having him of through something like this again. She knew it wasn't her fault that the ER explode, but Spencer shouldn't have to do this again.

"I'm sorry," Lexie whispered.

"Lex. you can't be sorry for this, you didn't do anything wrong." Spencer stroked her hair softly.

"You shouldn't have to do this again Spence." she cried. "You shouldn't have to almost lose someone you love."

"Lexie. My life has never gone as planned, bad things happen. I should be the won apologizing that you got caught up in my bad luck circle."

"Spencer, this is not your fault. The man how placed the bomb did this, but I'm alive, I'm okay."

Spencer let a sob escape his lips as he looked into Lexie's eyes. He couldn't help but blame himself, his life was one big mess and Lexie got pulled in. she as pulled in and something awful happened. He couldn't protect her. He loved her more than anything and she was almost taken away from him. He couldn't let her be pulled into his unlucky life anymore.

"I can't let this happen to you again. I cant-"

"Spencer stop. I know what you're going to say. I am not letting you go anywhere, I'm not going anywhere. This wasn't your fault. I love you."
Spencer just stared at the girl. His brain was blank, he couldn't find any words. He couldn't think about anything else but that fact that he loved Lexie. He was so scared to lose her, so scared to have her get hurt again. So he just grabbed her head and held it tightly, promising to never let go again.
