So, I have not seen this episode in such a long time, so I'll be back after some research. 

Hey, I'm back. So, from what my research tells me, they both first meet when Forrest helps her defeat Team Rocket. He continues to help her with catching a Wurmple and chasing away Team Rocket again. He wanted to travel with May, but decided against it, and they parted on friendly terms. So, this ship seems nice.
