Chapter 40 - The fight

Charlotte's POV

I hadn't left my office since my argument with Alexis this morning because I didn't want to see him; I was still angry at him.

I heaved a loud sigh as someone knocked on the door, interrupting me.

"Come in."

The door opened, and Nancy walked in, holding a file in her hand.

"Mr. Stavros asked me to give this file to you. Here are the details of your new campaign." She informed, extending the fail towards me.

I raised my eyebrow, puzzled as I grabbed the file. I sighed and opened it. My eyes widened in surprise as I saw the name of the fashion house.

"But... it is the same fashion house... but a different campaign." I commended, dumbfounded while reading the details. "Better than the first campaign. Two video ads and a series of photographs for their autumn-winter collection." I added, in awe. "When did Alex get it?" I asked, puzzled.

"Probably this morning. He gave me the file after you left his office, but he asked me to give the file to you this afternoon." She informed.

"Thank you." I nodded. She gave me a friendly smile and left, closing the door behind her.

Why didn't Alex tell me anything about it when I went to his office?

I ruffled my hair, lost in my thoughts and closed the file.

As I arrived at Alex's penthouse, his housekeeper informed me he was in his study room. Once I changed my clothes, I went to the kitchen. I poured coffee into two cups for Alex and myself and went to his study room.

When I walked into the room, he was working on his laptop. He lifted his head and looked at me for a second without saying anything before continuing working. I sighed and approached him.

"I brought you a cup of coffee." I said softly, placing the cup on his desk.

"Thank you." He mumbled dryly without touching it.

I breathed deeply, annoyed and placed my cup on the desk. "Why didn't you tell me about the campaign before?" I asked curiously.

"I forgot." He replied nonchalantly without looking at me, still working on his laptop.

I frowned. "Are you kidding me?" I mocked, rolling my eyes.

He gave me a dirty look and continued working without saying anything.

I heaved a loud sigh and closed the lid of his laptop. He shot daggers at me as he stood up abruptly.

"What do you want, Charlotte?" He asked, irritated.

"An answer to my question." I replied confidently, folding my arms over my chest.

"Because I can." He said arrogantly.

"Alex!"

He breathed deeply, closing his eyes, trying to calm down, and ran his hand through his hair before looking at me. "Charlotte, leave me alone."

"Why are you angry at me? It has to be me who has to be angry, not you. Even if you arranged this new campaign for me, lying about my schedule and refusing the other campaign were unprofessional. You can't intervene in my career because we are..."

"Charlotte! Didn't the new campaign with them solve your problem?" He asked, annoyed.

"No, my problem is your attitude. You can't intervene in my career, acting as a jealous boyfriend." I stated firmly.

His jaw clenched. "Don't worry. Just bear me till our agreement ends. Then you can do whatever you want when you get back with your perfect golden boy. It seems he doesn't care what you do." He said harshly.

I looked at him, astonished. "Alex, what got into you? Yes, maybe I exaggerated this morning, but you have to inform me about the campaign. Moreover, you don't deny the fact you replaced me because of the concept. So it has to be me who is angry, not you. Why do you act like this? I don't understand you." I commented, puzzled and ruffled my hair, sighing.

"Because you drive me crazy." He replied angrily as he closed the distance between us, his gaze dark.

"Is it my fault now?" I asked mockingly, rolling my eyes.

"What do you want from me, Charlotte?" He asked, bored and walked away, resting his hand in his pocket.

I grabbed his wrist, stopping him, and stood in front of him, facing him.

"For the beginning, you should accept you are jealous." I replied honestly.

"Charlotte, I am not jealous." He objected.

"Yes, for sure." I rolled my eyes.

"I will not let you pose naked. End of the discussion!" He stated, determined. "I am not a super modern guy like the Carter of yours." He added in a sardonic tone.

I frowned, annoyed. "Why do you involve Nathan in our conversation again and again, Alex?" I asked in irritation.

"Don't you think he is already involved?! Don't you bear my annoying presence because of him?" He commented dryly, averting his gaze.

"Wait a minute! Are you offended because I said you are unbearable?" I asked in amusement and raised my eyebrow.

"Of course not." He mumbled dryly and walked towards the window.

I grinned and approached him. "I am sorry. I didn't mean it. You made me mad. So I said those words out of anger. Yes, sometimes you make me want to strangle you, but I don't really think you are unbearable." I gave him a warm smile, resting my hand on his arm.

"I told you it isn't about it. I am not a little child to get offended by your words." He denied with a grumpy expression on his face.

I grinned, amused. "If you say so." I gave him an unconvinced look.

"Charlotte!" He exclaimed, annoyed.

"Come on! Let's make up before your grandpa finds out we had a fight. Or do you prefer to sleep on the couch in the living room? This time he will be convinced that we are really in love. There is no relationship without a fight." I winked at him playfully.

"There are a lot of rooms in the penthouse. I don't have to sleep on the couch." He commented dryly.

"Alex, please." I placed a soft kiss on his cheek and beamed at him.

He heaved a loud sigh. "Fine. Let's make up. I don't like to fight with you."

I smiled happily and hugged him, leaning my head against his chest. "We gave your housekeeper a lot of gossip to tell your grandpa." I whispered wickedly.

The corner of his lips curled up in an amused smirk. "Let's give her more." I gave him an intrigued look.

In a flash, he scooped me up in his arms and carried me towards the living room, smirking devilishly.

When Norma saw us, her eyes widened in surprise.

"Bring a bottle of champagne for us. And you may go to your room early." He said firmly and turned his gaze from her to me. "Cuddling on the couch, then..." He said huskily and traveled his tongue over his lower lip seductively.

I swallowed hard as my heart was pounding despite the fact I knew why he acted like this. However, I decided to join his game.

I closed the distance between our lips and said seductively. "Looks promising. Maybe we should skip the first part and go straight to our bedroom." I bit my lower lip provocatively and caressed his neck.

"Good idea, koukla mou." He agreed hoarsely and brushed his lips against mine, catching my off guard.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, responding to his kiss while he was still holding me in his strong arms.

"Norma, forget about the champagne." Alexis said as he pulled back and carried me towards our bedroom.

As soon as we walked into the room, he put me down carefully before we burst out laughing.

"Poor woman! She will think we are crazy. A few minutes ago, we were fighting, now we are..." I bit my lower lip shyly as I noticed what I was about to tell.

"Making love." He finished my sentence and gave me a devilish look. I pursed my lips together while I felt my cheeks flushed.

I sipped my champagne while chatting with Rose. We were at the house party hosted by Anne, Sienna's cousin. Alexis accompanied me to the party, now he was talking to Troy. From their expressions, I was sure they were talking about work.

"Excuse me, I have to go; Sienna is calling me." Rose said softly and walked towards Sienna.

"Hey gorgeous!"

I turned around as I heard a familiar cheerful voice.

"Kayden!" I exclaimed happily as my eyes met a pair of mischievous blue eyes.

"How are you? Long time no see." He said warmly after giving me a hug.

"Fine. And you?" I gave him a wide smile.

"Better now." He replied huskily, giving me a seductive look. I chuckled, shaking my head in amusement.

Kayden and I went on a few dates a few years ago when I tried to forget Nathan. We met at a party hosted by our mutual friend.

We dated for a few weeks, then we decided to stay friends. He was charming, funny and easy-going... and he could easily sweep you off your feet. A real charmer. It was understandable why women were addicted to him. Despite the fact we didn't get intimate, I heard he was good in bed as well, making you scream his name all night long.
