Chapter 39 - A team

Charlotte's POV

"Do you have any other bright ideas?" I asked sarcastically, leaning against the headboard, and folded my arms over my chest while he was putting on his shirt in his bedroom.

His grandfather and mother arrived this morning. Alexis booked suites in the hotel for them. When he informed his family about it, his grandpa refused, saying they would stay in Alexis' penthouse to spend more time with us, catching us off guard. Now, Alex and I are forced to stay together in his bedroom; moreover, there was no couch here. So we had to share the bed.

"Fine, I accept. It didn't go as planned."He sighed as he lay down beside me on the bed and rubbed the back of his neck uneasily.

I rolled my eyes. "Your grandfather is more cunning than I thought." I commented and heaved a loud sigh. "Are you sure we can convince him about our relationship?" I asked, worried.

He gave me a warm smile and held my hand. "Don't worry. We will handle it together. He can be a cunning man, but don't forget I am his grandson." He stated arrogantly and winked at me, squeezing my hand.

I chucked in amusement, still holding his hand.

"We will see." I said cockily and gave him a mischievous grin.

"Trust your fiance." He winked at me playfully.

Alexis' POV

I was looking for Charlotte to suggest having dinner at the restaurant with my family. Yesterday we visited her parents and had dinner together. Our families got along very well; however, I didn't think it was a good or bad thing because they would join forces to get us married as soon as possible. They had already started thinking where and how the wedding could be. Fortunately, Charlotte and I managed to calm them and informed our families that we wanted to stay engaged for a while.

When I wanted to walk into the kitchen, I stopped as I heard my grandfather and housekeeper's conversation. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, hiding behind the wall, and started listening to them as I heard they were talking about Charlotte and me.

"Don't forget what I told you. Keep your eye on them." My grandfather ordered in a bossy tone.

"Fine, sir. I will inform you if I find something suspicious about their relationship." The housekeeper, Norma, said, nodding.

I gritted my teeth in irritation and walked away quietly before they noticed me.

Grandpa!

This man has no boundaries. He would do everything to get what he wants.

Fortunately, Norma was sick last week and didn't work. Otherwise, my grandpa would find out I lied to him.

I have to talk to Charlotte as soon as possible and we have to plan what we will do about Norma. Charlotte will freak out when I tell her she has to stay here longer despite the fact my grandpa and mother are going back to Greece tomorrow morning.

I found Charlotte in my study room talking on the phone. I gave her a slight smile as I walked into the room and closed the door behind me.

"Is everything fine?" She asked as soon as she hung up her phone.

"We have a problem." She raised her eyebrow, giving me a questioning look. I heaved a loud sigh, running my hand through my hair, and started telling her what I heard.

"Damn it! What will we do now?" She asked, panicked.

"You have to stay here longer." I replied firmly.

"What?!"

"We don't have another choice."

"Fire her. If she doesn't work here, she can't know if I live here together or not." She suggested hopefully.

"I can't. He will understand why I fired her right away. Besides, even if I fire Norma, he will find someone else to keep an eye on us. At least, now we know who is working for him."

She sighed, closing her eyes. "This game gets more complicated every passing day."

I gave her a compassionate look as I approached her. "There is nothing we can't handle if we stick together, Charlotte. We are a team. Don't forget it." I said warmly, looking into her eyes, and cupped her cheek.

She nodded, smiling happily. "Yes, we are a team."

I gave her a bright smile, caressing her cheek tenderly. She smiled shyly, looking into my eyes, making me lost in her beautiful blue eyes.

Charlotte's POV

I was pacing back and forth in excitement in my office while waiting for Alexis to end the meeting. He was discussing the details of the new campaign for the most famous fashion house in the world. They wanted me to pose for the campaign of their new fragrance. I heard it from my friend who worked for a fashion house. It was my dream to work with this brand.

I asked Alex's assistant, Nancy, to inform me as soon as they left his office.

A few minutes later, my phone rang. I rushed towards my desk, excited and picked up the phone.

"Did they leave?" I asked as soon as I picked up the phone.

"Yes."

"Good. I am coming now."

"Umm... Mr. Stavros is busy now... He is talking to the model... who is going to pose for the campaign." Nancy informed me uneasily.

"What?! But they wanted to work with me. Are you sure it is the same campaign?" I asked, confused.

"Yes. I heard when Mr. Stavros called me to his office. They told him they want to work with you in this campaign, he told them you have another campaign and suggested to them to work with another model." She replied.

"What the fuck! I don't have another campaign scheduled for next week. I haven't accepted any other projects because I wanted to work with this fashion house. I knew they planned to shoot the ad next week." I commented, trying to control my anger as soon as possible. I took a deep breath as I paused. "Fine. Thanks, Nancy. I will talk to him." I resumed in a hurry.

As soon as I hung up the phone, I went to Alex's office. He had to give me an explanation why he lied to them.

I opened the door without knocking and walked into Alex's office. I gritted my teeth in irritation as I saw him talking to the model who took my place in the campaign.

"We have to talk." I stated in an authoritative tone.

"I am in the middle of a meeting." He informed firmly.

"I don't care." I said bitterly.

He raised his eyebrow and frowned, irritated. Then he turned his gaze from me to the girl and stated in a bossy tone. "We will continue later."

I rested my hands on my hips, tapping my foot on the ground waiting for the model to leave and close the door behind her.

"What happened?" He asked dryly, trying to hold his anger as much as possible, but I noticed the vein in his neck popped out.

"You!" I replied dryly, folding my arms over my chest.

His jaw clenched and he shot daggers at me. "What is your problem, Charlotte? Why did you barge into my office and interrupt my meeting?" He asked, frustrated as he stood up abruptly.

"Why did you lie about my schedule? It was my dream to work with that brand." I said angrily.

He heaved a loud sigh. "I will not discuss my decisions." He stated in a bossy tone.

"If it concerns me, of course, we will discuss it." I stated firmly, giving him a death look.

He gritted his teeth in irritation. "You will not be in this project. End of the discussion!"

"Why?" I asked furiously, ruffling my hair while I was trembling with anger.

He clenched his fist and blurted out in irritation. "I won't let my fiancée pose naked."

I opened and closed my mouth without knowing what to say. Suddenly, his grandfather's words about Alex being jealous and possessive popped in my mind.

Is he jealous?

I rubbed my forehead, furrowing my eyebrows.

"I am a model. Besides, in this project the model will cover her breasts with her arms and wear jeans. So I will not be naked." I stated firmly.

"It isn't up for discussion." He declared in a bossy tone.

I gritted my teeth in exasperation. "We are a fake couple. You can't intervene in my career; it doesn't matter if you are my real boyfriend or not."

"I can as your fiancé and boss." He stated, determined, making me want to strangle him.

"Poor your future wife! You are unbearable." I commented hotly. His jaw clenched instantly. "By the way, let me remind you that you are not my boss; we are co-partners."

"If you finished, you may leave. I have to work." He said dryly.

"I will leave when I want." I stated firmly, folding my arms over my chest. He gave me a death glare. I held his gaze. After waiting for a few minutes, I added. "Now I want to leave." I stormed out, slamming the door behind me without letting him say anything as his face flushed with anger.
