Chapter 30 - The partner in crime

Charlotte's POV

He pursed his lips together in amusement, and we walked towards our table.

I took a sip from my red wine and looked at Nathan. He was staring at me angrily, his muscles tense. I turned my gaze from him to my Devil partner, feeling happy by Nathan's attitude, and gave Alexis a warm smile, resting my hand on top of his hand.

"He is staring at us, isn't he? Look, I was right. Let him feel he can lose you." He stated, self-satisfied and squeezed my hand.

"Yes. He looks angry." I nodded happily.

After ordering our desserts, I went to the restroom.

When I left the restroom, I saw Nathan, leaning against the wall. As soon as he saw me, he straightened and approached me in quick steps.

"Don't do it." He stated firmly.

"What?" I asked, puzzled.

"Don't try to use him to make me jealous. I don't want you to get hurt." He said, full of sadness in his eyes.

I forced a smile and folded my arms over my chest. "Don't overestimate yourself! It has nothing to do with you. I like him." I said in confidence.

"You will get hurt, Lottie. I know you don't like him. You are so dear to me. I don't want you to get hurt because of me anymore." He gave me a begging look.

I burst out laughing. "How thoughtful of you!" I mocked. "Always the same tune. You are dear to me, blah, blah. If you care about my feelings, why did you break up with me?" I asked in annoyance.

"Because my feelings for you are not romantic enough for a relationship. You are my friend's sister and I like you as my friend." He confessed, annoyed.

"I didn't think you saw me as a friend when we fucked." I stated angrily, clenching my fist.

"Charlotte!" He warned me as his jaw tightened. "I told you from the beginning that I am not ready for a serious relationship. I didn't lie to you. You accepted it knowingly. Yes, I enjoyed spending time with you. As I told you before, you make me feel happy, but it isn't enough for a serious relationship. So don't try to make me jealous, using that man."

I gritted my teeth angrily while disappointment and sadness filled my heart. "Leave me alone, Nathan Carter. And mind your own business." I said dryly and walked away, bumping into his shoulder angrily.

"Fuck!" I muttered under my breath angrily because when I wanted to leave the restaurant, I saw the paparazzi in front of it and turned right before they noticed me. I had totally forgot about them.

I ruffled my hair angrily and leaned against the wall, closing my eyes while holding my tears back hard.

I heaved a loud sigh and pulled my phone out of my clutch. Then I sent a message to Alexis, informing him I wanted to leave, and I was waiting for him in the hallway away from the main door.

"What happened? Are you fine?" Alexis asked, worried as he rushed towards me.

"I am fine. I don't just want to stay here more than a minute." I replied, trying to hold my tears as I threw myself into his arms.

Alexis pulled back slightly and cupped my cheeks, looking at me worriedly. "Did Nathan tell you something bad?"

I pursed my lips together and averted my gaze. "I don't want to talk about it now. Please let's go."

He sighed and nodded, stroking my cheek tenderly. "If you want, we can use the back door." He suggested, giving me a sympathetic look.

"No. We will do what we planned." I refused firmly. He gave me a warm smile and held my hand.

I took a deep breath and squeezed Alexis' hand tightly as we left the restaurant.

Alexis' POV

I parked my car in front of Stardust and got out of the car. As soon as Charlotte told me what happened between Nathan and her at the restaurant, I decided to visit the young Carter. I wouldn't let him hurt Charlotte again and again.

Once I walked into the nightclub, I searched for Nathan. As he was nowhere seen, I approached the bartender.

"Hello. Is your boss here?" I asked in an authoritative tone.

"Yes. Who are you?" He asked suspiciously.

"Please inform him Alexis Stavros has to talk to him. It is important." I replied confidently, resting my hand in my pocket

He grabbed his phone and called someone. Once the bartender hung up, he informed me that the boss was waiting for him in his office and he gestured to the office upstairs. I nodded and walked away.

I knocked on the door and opened it. Nathan stood up and approached me as soon as I walked in, closing the door behind me.

"Hello. I am Alexis Stavros, Charlotte's boyfriend." I introduced myself firmly and extended my hand towards him.

His jaw tightened as soon as I emphasized the words 'Charlotte's boyfriend'. He cleared his throat and shook my hand.

"Nathan Carter. So what do you want to talk about?" He asked dryly.

"About Charlotte." I informed, looking into his eyes.

He breathed deeply and suggested. "Let's sit down. Would you like something to drink?"

"No, thanks." I replied politely as we sat down.

"So?"

"I don't want you to bother my girlfriend again." I stated in an authoritative tone.

He raised his eyebrow. "I didn't bother, Lottie."

Lottie.

I gritted my teeth in irritation as he called Charlotte by her nickname. However, I didn't understand why it made me angry.

"She told me about what you told her at the restaurant." I commented nonchalantly.

"She told you?!" He mumbled, surprised as he raised his eyebrow.

"Yes, we don't keep secrets from each other. And let me be honest; I don't like you to be around my girlfriend. So stay away from her." I said bossily.

"You can't tell me what to do, Mr. Stavros! And as you know, I know Lottie and her family for a long time; so it is out of the question. Moreover, I will do everything to protect her from doing something stupid because she isn't in the right state at the moment." Nathan stated firmly, clenching his fist.

"If you cared about her this much, you shouldn't break her heart." I mocked and rolled my eyes.

"I didn't try to hurt her. I never lied to her. I was clear with her about our relationship." Nathan retorted angrily.

"I don't give a damn about your past relationship. Stay away from my girlfriend. Stop playing with Charlotte's feelings! I won't let you befuddle her with your womanizer Carter genes." I demanded authoritatively as I stood up and left without letting him say anything.

Charlotte's POV

When Alexis's jet landed in Athens, the car was waiting for us at the tarmac. He was going to introduce me to his grandfather and mother. It had been a month since we started our game.

Alexis told me they were looking forward to meeting me. He informed me that his mother had been asking about me, and she was excited to meet me. I should accept that I felt slightly nervous. I hoped everything would go smoothly.

I was playing with the hem of my dress nervously in the car while we were going to Alexis's mother's mansion. As much as I tried to calm myself down, reminding myself that it was just a part of the game, not real, I was unsuccessful at it. It felt like I was going to meet my real boyfriend's family, not fake one.

"Are you nervous?" Alexis asked in amusement, raising his eyebrow.

"Yes." I confessed honestly and took a deep breath.

"Wow!" He exclaimed cheerfully and leaned towards me. He bit his lower lip, looking at me intensely, and whispered in my ear huskily. "If you are nervous this much while it is fake, how would you feel if you were really my woman?"

I gulped nervously under his gaze and averted my gaze. "It is easy for you to tease me. You aren't in my shoes. My parents adore you. Even if we decide to get married tomorrow, they would support us and be happy for our marriage. You probably noticed it at dinner yesterday."

"Yes, I like them too. And why shouldn't they like me? I am charming." He commented arrogantly and winked at me before giving me a cocky smirk.

I pursed my lips together, trying to hold my smile, and rolled my eyes. He grinned happily.

"Don't worry. My family will like you too." He assured me, giving me a tender smile.

"I hope so. And I hope they will not get suspicious." I exhaled loudly and bit my lower lip anxiously.

"They will not. Just forget that it is a game and act like we are really a couple who are madly in love." He whispered in my ear hoarsely and entwined our hands. I nodded and took a deep breath, trying to calm down.
