Part 20

Dabi sat next to Keigo while holding Hinokuma. Rumi went out to the hallway and called CPS. A doctor approached after she hung up and she went back to Dabi. "So. I have good news and bad news." "I need some good news right now." Rumi nodded and explained she managed to get CPS to agree to Dabi seeing and caring for Hinokuma. "The bad news is that she has to come back with me until Kei wakes up and they get a vocal confirmation from him." Dabi held his daughter tighter. "So. I can only see her while you're here at the hospital." Rumi nodded. "I need to go check on my husband right now though. I was just told he delivered our twins. And I want to see them. I'll leave Hino here with you though and grab her when I go to leave." Dabi nodded as she left. "Daddy. I missed you. We go home now?" Dabi shook his head. "You have to go home with Mrs Rumi." "But I don't wanna. Wanna go home with you." She hugged her father tighter as she began to cry. "I know. But I could get in some real bad trouble if you come home with me." Dabi rubbed his husband's hand. "You can go to sleep though." "Sleep with mama?" "Yeah. You can sleep next to mama."

Two hours passed and there was a knock at the door. "Hey. I'm headed home." Rumi picked up Hinokuma. "I've made sure you're allowed to stay here with him. Most of the doctors here still believe the hospital should be a safe place, no matter what the law says." "Thank you." Rumi nodded. "And I'll be sure to stop by tomorrow."

Every day for the last few months, Rumi visited her friend in the hospital, bringing Hinokuma with her. "Tomorrow marks three months. And he still isn't awake." "Speaking of, Shiggy and I have been to ask you. We planned for a worst case scenario, and decided that at that three month mark, we'd adopt Hino. We were wondering if you would be interested in being her nanny." Rumi explained that by being a live in nanny, Dabi could still care for his child. "And you'd just be taking care of her. By all means, you'd still be her parent just not on paper." Rumi paused. "Please. Feel free to take your time and think it through." Keigo groaned and slowly reached for his face. His eyes snapped opened as he frantically tried to pull the tubes away from him. "NURSE!"

After checking vitals, Keigo was taken off the monitors. The doctor still wanted him in the hospital just to make sure everything was right. "How long was I out?" "Keigo asked hoarsely. "Three months." Dabi held on to his husband tightly. "I was so scared you'd never wake up." "This needs to be done ASAP. Here. Call CPS." Rumi handed her phone to Keigo. "Yes. This is Keigo Takami. I was told to call you when I woke up." Keigo nodded as he spoke to the receptionist. "Alright. Thanks." He turned to Dabi. "We've got her back." Dabi sighed in relief. "All this fuss to take a kid away from their parent, just for being an omega." Keigo scoffed. "Makes me fucking sick." "Fuck." The adults turned to little girl. "Hino, sweetie. That's not a word you can use." "Remember. That's a daddy word. Only daddy can say it." Hinokuma looked a bit confused. "But mama said it." "Daddy and mama can say that word. You can't."

Things were mostly peaceful for the next ten years. "Mom! Dad! Kazukou and Shinobu are going to the mall after school. Can I meet up with them? Please." Keigo took a sip of coffee and turned to his husband. "All you baby bird. I've got to get ready for work." Dabi nodded as he took a bite of his breakfast. "You'd better finish your homework when you get back. No later than 6, got it?" "Yes sir. Thank you, dad." Hinokuma smiled brightly as she gathered up her things and headed to school.

The mall trip was nice. Hinokuma got to see her best friend again. "It's almost 6. I need to head home." "Us too. Dad will kill us." "Papa too. And father." Satsuki added. The group parted ways and each headed to their home. Hinokuma got home at about 6:30 and found her parents waiting for her. "I remember saying 'no later than 6'. Care to explain?" "I'm sorry. I checked time a bit later than I expected. And I had to say bye to Suki." Dabi got up. "I'm glad you saw your friend, but that doesn't excuse being late. I'll let it slide this one time, because it's only thirty minutes, but make sure you're home on time next time." Hinokuma nodded and went to her room. "You didn't have to be so harsh." "I wasn't. She's just going to work on her homework."

A few hours later, Dabi groaned as he heard frantic knocking at the bedroom door. "What is it, devil?" "Daddy. Shinobu. Kazukou. Satsuki. They were." Hinokuma couldn't hold back her tears. "Hey. Shhh. Shh. What is it? What happened?" "They got attacked. By some ass of an alpha. Daddy. He killed Shinobu." "Couch. Now. I'll be there soon." Dabi urged his daughter to the living room. "Kei. I need you to go pick up some things from the closest store." Keigo yawned. "This late?" He sat up and walked into the living room and found his daughter crying. "Snowbird. What's wrong?" Dabi practically pushed Keigo outside. "If I had been there." "Shhh. Just cry it out, baby. Daddy's here. Just let it out." Dabi hugged his daughter as she cried into his shoulder.

The day of the funeral, Shinso set up a meeting with his rival. "Hijack. I'm here to see your boss." "Yes sir. Mr. Chisaki has been waiting for you." Shinso was led to a private office after he was checked for weapons. "So. You come to see me? Why?" "To ask that you sell me a few political figures." "And now why would I do that?" Shinso explained his plan to Overhaul. "This benefits me as well. See. My only child is an omega. And I'd like for him to fear the outside world. I'll agree, on one condition." "What is that?" "Your 'club' and my yakuza, merge." Shinso felt a bit heavy in his chest. "You're suggesting a merger. Unfortunately my daughter has just been promised to someone else." "You don't have any other possibilities? A merger would benefit the both of us. And you could have your pick of politicians." This was too good of a deal for Shinso to pass up. "They can hate me later. My niece is an alpha, I'll agree to your terms on the promise that when they turn 18, they can call it off if they want." Overhaul agreed and the two shook on it. "Fuck. How am I going to explain to Dabs I basically sold his daughter to the Shie Hissaki?"
