even though valerie tried her hardest to stay with ashtray the three days he was suspended, the second her mom found out she skipped one day, valerie was back at her house, in trouble, and forced to go to school.

so, valerie decided that she would have to stop being so down over everything. no matter what, she would have to go to school, her mom would always find a way to force her. and she couldn't hide behind ashtray all of her life. so this time when she went to school, she dressed normal, in her style, not sweatpants and a long sleeve shirt. what happen to her, didn't happen because of what she was wearing, it happened because xander is fucked up, and can't fake no for an answer, and she felt stupid, just now realizing it.

she kept her head high when walking in to school, trying her hardest not to be bothered by everyone's stares. but along with her posture, her head dropped at the sight of her two bestfriends laughing together by dani's locker.

she hadn't shown up to school yet, so she understood why it was just them two, but as she walked farther into school, it was like her two friends didn't know her. they didn't turn to look at her like normal, they just kept laughing about whatever.

valerie never believed in the whole 'trios never work' thing, she thought it was just a problem between the three friends, they should work it out and make the trio work. but maybe she was wrong. nothing was going on between her and her two friends, yet she was the one left behind in the trio.

she shrugged it off, closing her locker and walking past the two without a word. she wanted to know if they had seen her walk past, but didn't look back to keep the act as if she didn't see them.

she was doing better, and she was trying not to let them bring her down, again.

she sat in her first period, her legs bouncing up and down from nervousness every time she felt someone staring at her. however, she kept her head straight and didn't look anywhere other than that.

she felt almost relieved when her phone buzzed, and she picked it up, a smile forming on her face immediately.

valerie was only half joking, she did want to leave, she'd rather be anywhere else than in school, but she also didn't want to get in trouble with her mom again, and because of that, she's staying in school.

β€”β€”β€”

the rest of the school day dragged on, valerie keeping to herself and not saying much to anyone. as she was walking out of the school doors, just texting ashtray that she was going to be on the way to the store, her shoulders dropped at the view of her two friends together, again.

she hated thinking they would just forget about her, but neither of them had texted her in the past two days, and now they hadn't even looked in her direction once.

to say the least, her feelings were hurt.

so, she turned, changing her direction of ashtrays house, to hers, and sending him a quick text saying that her mom told her she had to be home, even thought she didn't.

she felt like she had put enough of her problems on ashtray, and today she'd take the time to be alone, think about everything by herself.

when she got home, she pushed her door open and went straight to her room. she threw herself down on her bed and took a deep breathe.

maybe it wasn't actually a lot happening to her, but it sure felt like it.

her relaxing state was cut short when her door opened and her mom walked in, although she didn't move, just listened to her mom talk.

"how was school?"

valerie eyebrows raised as her mom never asked her that, "it's was okay."

"you're not hanging out with victoria today? or that boy you like?" her mom leaned on her door.

valerie let out a chuckle, she never told her mom ashtrays name, to save him and her the judgement. so instead, she always said ash, but her mom must've forgotten by now.

"no, i think i'm just gonna stay home today." valerie shrugged.

her mom didn't respond for a couple seconds, before cocking her head to the side and sighing. "valerie, i think im going to take you to see a counselor."

valerie moved, "what?"

her mom threw her hands up in the air, "you won't tell me what's going on with you, maybe you'll tell a counselor."

valerie shook her head with a sarcastic laugh. "nothing wrong with me."

"next tuesday." her mom ignored what she just said, about to leave her room but valerie turned to her, "i'm not talking to a fucking counselor!"

"language!" her mom turned back around, "then talk to me, valerie. what is wrong with you?!"

valerie began getting annoyed with her mom, and stood up, about to close the door in her face, but her mom grabbed her wrist. the grip she had on her wrist brought flashbacks to valerie, and she immediately took her wrist out of her grip. "get out."

her mom shook her head, "tell me what's going on with you. is it something at school?"

the second her mom grabbed valerie's shoulder after not letting her close the door, valerie broke down. through her sobs she mumbled so many things, and even though her mom couldn't actually understand all of it, she understood some, and that was enough.
