with fezco being asleep, the two teenagers quietly made their way outside and once the door was closed, valerie grabbed onto ashtrays hand with a smile.

he looked over at her, annoyed with how easily he gave into anything she asked. she had him wrapped around his finger, and he knew it. but nonetheless, he pulled her closer to him and they walked down the street.

"not this street, it's dangerous." ashtray told her, and she looked at all the houses.

she nodded, swinging their arms. "which should we do first?"

his eyebrows raised, "you're really gonna throw rocks at peoples windows?"

she shrugged, "first one to break a window looses." she joked.

he chuckled, "you're a trip."

two streets down, ashtray gave her the okay to do this street. she stopped at the second house on the street, looking over to ashtray. "wanna go first?"

he cocked his head to the side, "fuck it."

they both picked up rocks from the street, making sure not to get too big of ones, and looked at each other before ashtray threw the first one. valerie made sure to wait a few seconds to throw hers, as she didn't want them to get caught.

once she did, they both ran to the next house. they, again, picked up rocks and threw them to the nearest window, before running away to make sure they didn't get caught.

the next house, valerie told him they should ding dong ditch, switch it up. and so, they both slowly walked up to the door, before banging on it and quickly running off.

valerie's loud laugh lowed as she didn't want them to hear her, but she grabbed onto ashtray to catch her breathe, and he watched her with a smile.

he would be lying if he said this isn't the most fun he's ever had. his whole life he'd been surrounded around drugs and being forced into being a dealer, he never got time to do things like this. which is why from the moment he and valerie started hanging out, she made him feel normal. like he could be a normal teenager, life a normal life for just a little bit.

after they both caught their breathe, they went on to the next house, skipping some that had cameras to be smart. this time, valerie went up to the door to knock, as ashtray waited for her in the drive way. he wasn't going to run and leave her behind, but she said she'd do this was by herself.

she brought both her arms up, banging on the door before running down the yard. her heart dropped when she heard the door open and loud yell, "hey!"

ashtray quickly grabbed her arms, turning her and forcing her to run as the person cussed at them to come back.

valerie laughed loud, while out of breathe. when they were far enough, they both stopped and looked at each other, before breaking out into laughter again.

valeries smile widened when ashtray laughed with her, his laugh being one of her favorite things about the boy.

out of breathe, her adrenaline going and her mouth going faster than her brain, she blurted, "i love you."

for the second time in less than twenty minutes, her heart dropped. she began fearing it was too soon, and that she just made it awkward between the two when that was the last thing she needed. slowly turning her head to ashtray, she eased when she saw that cocky smirk he always did to ease the tension when he knew she was nervous.

he wrapped his arms around her, swaying them back and forth. "i love you too, ma. for real."

her smile returned, and she rubbed his back. she didn't know what to say now, but she didn't want things to be awkward by her silence. "do you think we should go back now?"

he pulled away, nodding. "yeah, but let's go another way to be safe."

"okay." she followed behind him, grabbing onto his jacket for comfort and to feel safer.

they spent the rest of the way back to ashtrays house, talking about whatever came to mind to feel the silent streets. at one point or another valerie brought up staying with ashtray while he was suspended, again. but he told her no, that it wasn't a good idea for her to stay out of school for no reason, and she eventually gave up trying. she didn't want to tell him that she was nervous to go back, after the fight xander could've said something, anything. a lie. and she was scared everyone knew what happened to her, but she wouldn't tell ashtray and have him worrying when there was nothing more he could do other than be there for her, and he was already doing that.

however, the next morning when ashtray woke up and didn't feel valerie by his side, he thought she had went to school like he told her to the night before. but he was very wrong.

he got up at the smell of something burning and loud yelling, his mind immediately went to the worse and he practically ran into the kitchen. he eased a little when he saw valerie and fezco arguing while pushing each other in the kitchen.

"fez, it's going to burn more if you don't more your ass!" valerie screamed, not knowing ashtray had woken up yet.

"wha-Β  didn't even burn it!" fezco threw his hands up, stepping out of her way.

"if you hadn't tried to help me, it wouldn't have burned, huh?" valerie cocked her head to the side, while fezco just shook his head with a laugh, before turning and finally seeing ashtray.

"oh, hey, ash! fezco burnt the pancakes, but i tried to make some." valerie said.

"i didn't burn them." fezco told ashtray.

ashtray ignored both of them, simply rolling his eyes. "why aren't you at school?"

valerie thought fast, pointing back to fezco with her thumb. "fez said i could stay here today."

fezco was quick to lean up and wave his hand around, "what?! no the fuck i didn't!"

valerie laughed, picking up the burnt pancakes and making her way to their trash can, burning herself in the process and letting out a loud yelp, throwing them in the trash can and then waving her hand around while jumping.

ashtray shook his head, "see, this is why you should be in school."
