third person pov

new years was in two days, and just like valerie thought.. there was a party. maddy was already set on going to it, along with her friends and basically everyone. and valerie agreed quickly, it was her first new year's party, she was actually quite excited. she hasn't asked ashtray about it yet though, she would eventually.. but valerie herself was asked about it.

the day before, at school, a boy she didn't know came up to her and asked her about it. he had black hair, he was taller than her, he had one dimple and a nice smile. she thought he was pretty good looking, but he wasn't who she wanted.

"hey." valerie heard, causing her to move her eyes from her phone and to the boy that was now standing in front of her.

"hi?" she replied, not knowing who he was or why he was talking to her.

"you're valerie, right?" he asked, leaning against the lockers.

"yeah.. who are you?" she answered, tilting her head to the side in confusion.

"chris.. you're friends with victoria, i know troy and roy." he told her, giving her a quick awkward smile after.

"oh.." she replied, not that satisfied with the twins anymore.

"why that response? you don't like them?" he asked, moving as she opened her locker.

"not really." she answered truthfully, making him laugh.

"yeah, okay. well, are you going to the new years party?" he asked, catching her off guard.

"um.. yeah, i am, why?" she asked, moving her head to look at him.

"i was gonna ask you if you wanted to go with me." he told her, folding his arms.

he looked almost nervous to valerie, which she would've laughed at, but she was sort of frozen. a nice guy was asking her to go to the party? he isn't ashtray though.. and her and ashtray had already told each other their feelings. she should be loyal right? even if they aren't dating..

"uh.. i don't know.." she answered after a couple seconds of silence.

in all honesty, he was a nice guy, but she wanted to go to the new year's eve party with ashtray. they had already talked about it weeks ago.

"okay.. do you have a boyfriend or something? if you do i'm sorry for asking, i just think you're really pretty." he told her.

she smiled, "no i dont.. not yet, no."

his heart dropped a little at 'not yet' but didn't show it at all, and instead smiled. "okay, that's fine. how about i give you my number and if things change, you text me, alright?"

she didn't find anything wrong with that idea, however she didn't think anything would go wrong, either. "okay." she replied anyway, handing him her phone.

once he was done putting his number in it, he handed it back to her with a nod. "see you later." he told her, and walked off.

she watched him walk off, and almost felt guilty for letting him give her his number. if her and ashtray were dating that would be considered cheating... so now, they were talking? what would that be considered?

school the previous day finished, and valerie skipped out of school with her phone in her hand, trying to find ashtray.

"yo!" ashtray shouted, causing her to turn her head as she recognized his voice.

she smiled and made her way to him, "hey."

he nodded his head, and she hugged herself as he thought this was a good time to ask him. "hey, are you going to the new years party?"

"probably, business. why?" he replied.

she shrugged as if she didn't know exactly why she was asking, "was gonna see if we could go there together."

"gotta see how thing play out, but most likely." he said, throwing his arm around her shoulder, causing her to smile.

her eyes moved from the ground and up, where she saw chris ahead of them. he didn't see her yet, but she wondered if that was a sign she should tell ashtray about him.

"ash, even if we aren't dating.. giving someone my number- or them giving me their number.. is that considered unloyal?" she asked.

he looked down at her, "who'd you give your number?"

she pursed her lips, and moved her head back to where chris was standing. she pointed in his direction, and ashtrays eyes squinted.

"whyd you give him your number?" he asked her, his eyes going back on her.

"he asked me to go to the new years party with him, i said i didn't know because i want to go with you, and he said 'if things change, text me' so.." she was completely honest with him.

his eyebrows furrowed, "nah, you're not going with him."

her eyes squinted, and he saw her get confused. she knew he could be saying that out of jealousy or whatever, but she didn't like how his tone changed so quickly.

"he's friends with roy, valerie. he can't be that great of a person." he told her, and she slowly nodded.

"okay. well, fezcos here." she changed the subject, pointing to fezcos car that was pulling in.

she began to move, so ashtray arm would fall and he could go to fezco, but he stopped her. "where are you going?"

"well, if maddy already left, i'm walking." she said, shrugging.

he rolled his eyes, "you can go with us, cmon." and wrapped his arm back around her.

chris noticed her as her and ashtray walked to fezcos car, but she hadn't noticed that chris seen her. chris turned to troy, "valerie's dating ashtray?"

troy nodded, "yeah, bro. i don't know how that one happened." he laughed.

chris nodded, "damn." was all he said.Β
