Epilogue

It doesn't matter how long it takes. It doesn't matter how crazy the journey was. In reality, nothing matters when it comes to love. After all, the best rollercoasters are the twisted ones and the most rocky paths find the most beautiful destinations.

~Popcorned

Dylan's POV

"THIS—" wheezed out Day, her face scrunched up in concentration. "— IS SO HARD!" she exclaimed. I burst out laughing as stray wisps of hair escaped her loosely tied ponytail and fell across her face, and her nose was squeezed against her face.

Then, all of a sudden, all her hard work paid off. The crab shell she'd been trying to wrench open burst out, and all the juice splattered over her glasses.

"Oh my goodness, Snowflake," I said, laughing loudly at her complete bewilderment as she began to furiously rub off the stains from her glasses.

"If this isn't worth it, I will kill you," she threatened, before taking a bite of the crab. She told me she'd never tried it before, and obviously, as an excuse to get her out of the house, I took her to a place that served seafood.

I felt my phone buzz from under the table and I tried to smother the sound down by clamping the speaker down with my fist. Day shot me an inquisitory look, and I just shrugged it off, praying she didn't figure anything out. "No, forget it, probably some annoying college mates," I brushed off, hoping I sounded more casual than I felt.

I could tell she didn't buy it, but I needed to make sure she didn't suspect a thing.

Then, she took a bite of the crab and her expression morphed into something else and a moan escaped her lips. I laughed, and she clamped her hand on her mouth, looking mortified.

"It's so good," she said, grinning. I smiled back at her, loving every little bit of the girl sitting in front of me.

"I've heard you make the same noises at other places before," I said, and she smacked my arm, looking around in a scared manner as if she was terrified that someone had heard me. After four years of dating, she still wasn't very comfortable with PDA, be it herself or anyone else. This was a major reason Day didn't want to meet up with Deeds and Jase often.

Speaking of Deeds, I should probably talk to her.

I got up, and she looked puzzled. "What happened?" she asked, looking innocent. However, I knew the gears in her head were turning like crazy.

"Nothing," I said, dismissively. "Nothing for you to worry about, that is. I just need to... use the restroom," I said. Jeez, I was a terrible liar.

She raised her eyebrows at me but then shrugged, continuing eating. "Whatever," she dismissed. "Just pee soon and come back. I feel like going back home—" she began, before I cut her off.

"NO!" I exclaimed, and she flinched because of how loud I'd screamed that. "I mean... not now. Um, renovation and stuff. Later in the night we'll go. Just not now. At all. Please." I rambled. By now, I'm sure she was thinking I was some escaped convict or something.

"Are you okay?" she asked, cautiously, wiping her mouth with a napkin.

"Damn, I need to pee. See you in a minute!" I said, before running into the bathroom and opening my phone out. "DEEDS!" I hissed.

"Nice to hear from you too, Daniels," she said, dryly. "Mind answering why you didn't pick up? Jase is freaking out here, you know!"

I rolled my eyes. "Well," I drew out, exaggeratedly. "I'm at a freaking restaurant with Day, which was an idea that you gave me, might I add!"

I heard Deeds groan. "Oh, shit, she probably suspects something," she said, sounding pissed.

"EXACTLY!" I yelled, and I received a confused glance from a guy washing his hands. "Now the girl I want to freaking propose to probably thinks I'm cheating on her!"

Deeds whistled and laughed a little. "Well, I mean, what you've gotten planned is super cute, so I'm sure she'll like it," she said, placating me.

"Day's really hard to please," I pointed out, and I heard a faint grumble and it sounded like Deeds was hitting Jase with a pillow.

If the two of them were trashing up my house, I would kill them.

"That's true," she said, her voice kind of muffled. Then I heard the distinct sound of two people kissing and I groaned loudly.

"I'll talk to you later. Is everything ready yet?" I asked.

Deeds clicked her tongue. "Not yet... maybe half an hour or so left? Jase is still working on the compilation."

I rolled my eyes. "What you mean is, Jase is kissing you."

Deeds giggled a little. "Yeah, that too," she said, not bothering to deny it.

"Anyway, I'll bring her to the terrace place and then give me a buzz when you're ready," I said, before walking out of the bathroom.

Day was standing right outside with her arms crossed against her chest with a raised eyebrow. I gulped audibly and shoved my phone into my pocket, and her sharp eyes obviously caught it.

"So, who've you been chatting with? Brazil Nut?" she asked, and although she was trying to act like she couldn't care less, I could see her muscles tensing beneath her blue shirt.

I stopped myself from relishing the fact that she was jealous. She was so adorable, and every time she got jealous it made me remember just how much she loved me, too. It really pissed the hell out of me when people at Penn would wink at her and she'd smile, not really knowing what else to do.

At NYU, there was a girl called Vanessa who was a bit on the, well... kooky side. She had wild black hair and a crazy attitude, and the first day I went to the campus with Day, she ran up to me and kissed me full on the mouth. Although the two of us are just friends now and I knew she was just insane and did that to everyone, Day hasn't really liked her since and has termed her as Brazil Nut because she's from Brazil, and she's nuts.

"No!" I exclaimed, before kissing her lightly. "Let's go somewhere, okay? I wanted to show you something," I informed her, my heart thudding in my chest.

Tonight was the night that my whole life would change for better or worse.

She still looked wary. "Are you okay? You've been acting extremely jittery the whole day and I don't know what's up with you or those mysterious phone calls you've been receiving. It's starting to scare me a little bit," she confessed, her cheeks turning pink.

I smiled at her. "I love you, okay? I swear I'm not doing anything that will hurt you," I said, choosing my words carefully. "You'll find out, okay?"

She narrowed her eyes at me. "My birthday is in three months. Why would you be planning it now?" she asked out loud.

I grinned. "Wrong. This has nothing to do with your birthday," I said, before I burst out laughing. "You're so self-obsessed! Who said it had anything to do with you in the first place!" I teased.

A look of hurt flashed across her face. "Well—" she began, and I cut her off.

"I'm just kidding. Wear your sweater and we'll leave, okay?" I said, before pulling her out.

New York's freezing winter air hit the two of us, and she shivered slightly and I pressed her to my side. Ever since college had started two years ago, she'd been staying at my place over the weekends. I wasn't complaining or anything, because that meant great nights of movies and long talks that never ended, and her just being the weirdly cute person that she always was.

They say the sun loved the moon so much, he died every night to keep her alive.

I loved her more.

I squeezed her hand and we walked towards my car, and she hopped in, her cheeks flushed because of the cold.

"W-where are we going?" she asked, throwing off her sweater and cranking up the heat in my BMW which I'd had for the longest time now.

I smiled. "You'll see," I said, acting mysterious.

She grumbled slightly and rolled her eyes, but I knew she didn't mean it. Her smile gave it all away.

There was this place I'd found that I decided to take her before the whole plan actually took place. This was a place that reminded me of us and our relationship— under the stars. The place where it all started. The brilliant lights that brought us together.

And yes, I brought popcorn.

I pulled over, and a look of confusion flashed across her face. It was a desolate area with a few trees on a hill that ended at a jagged cliff, just leaving you in a bubble with the stars. The night sky was inky and the stars were studded into it.

"What?" she asked, her eyebrows furrowed.

I grinned. "You can see the stars really well here," I whispered, and she beamed.

"I love you!" she exclaimed, before practically flying out of the door and running towards a particularly bare area and patting down beside her, beckoning for me to come and join. She then proceeded to just fall back and watch the stars.

"Even through the cloudy nights of gloom and gray, it's a star's light that brings out a new day," she whispered. I smiled. This was her favorite quote that she'd ever made up, because it contained her name in it and also gave hope.

"The stars just stretch out to infinity," I replied, smiling and intertwining her small fingers with my own.

She nodded. "There's so much beyond our world that we don't even know about. Honestly, there could even be extraterrestrial life on other planets... I mean, just beings on Earth require oxygen. Why aren't scientists able to figure out that other organisms may need other things, like perhaps... methane to stay alive?" she challenged. She did this a lot; posing questions with no real answers and having her impossibly large imagination stretch out further.

"We'll ship all the cows there," I joked, and she grinned.

"I love the stars. They provide us with so much hope," she whispered to no one in particular, and then she snuggled up against me because of the cold.

I stroked her hair absent-mindedly. "You know what my favorite star is?" I asked, dead serious.

"What?" she asked, her answer kind of muffled because her face was buried in my sweater.

"You. And I want to marry the person I love," I said, and she froze all over, suddenly pulling back. This wasn't my proposal, though.

After a few seconds, she smiled a little hesitantly. "I was thinking the same thing," she whispered, her cheeks turning visibly pink even under the star's gaze.

I raised my eyebrows. "Really?" I asked, trying to shun down the erratic beating of my heart.

She nodded. "But... since I can't marry myself, I don't know what to do," she said, before she burst out laughing at my horror-struck expression. "I'm kidding!" she said, sticking her tongue out at me.

Suddenly, I felt a buzz in my pocket. It was time.

"We need to get back home," I said, before jumping up and she whined, putting her arms around herself because of the sudden gust of icy wind.

"Why? What about the renovation?" she asked, skeptically.

I brushed it off, feeling increasingly nervous as the seconds ticked by. "Um, it's over," I said, before grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the car.

"I can feel your pulse going crazy," she commented as she hopped into the car. "Seriously, are you okay?" she asked, concerned.

"Yep!" I quipped, a little too soon. "Uh, just super happy that I'm with the best person ever," I said, smiling at her.

"Oookay," she said, obviously seeing past my craziness.

I was probably speeding, and Day kept shooting me odd looks, but patience wasn't in my dictionary right now. Nothing was; my brain was in overdrive.

We arrived, and everything looked normal in my apartment. I practically ripped out the keys and pulled Day out, who was starting to stare at me like I'd escaped a mental asylum.

"Did you rob a bank!?" she blurted, before widening her eyes. She always blurted things out and then regretted it the next moment.

I laughed, albeit a little nervously. "Um, no," I said, grinning. "Just go up into the room, there's something I need to tend to, okay?" I asked, and then she frowned a little before opening the door.

Deeds smiled and Day jumped back, before throwing her arms around her best friend. "OH MY GOODNESS! DEEDS! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!?" she exclaimed, before laughing manically.

Deeds laughed. "There's something you need to see," she said, before dragging her in. I smiled and grabbed the ring in my pocket but didn't let her see it, before creeping into my room where I could see the video, but have her not know I was watching.

"Hey Day!" Jase exclaimed, before flinging his arms around her. She screamed and hugged him, looking like the Cheshire Cat.

"JASE!" she screamed. "YAY! Is this why Dylan was acting so weird?" she asked, grinning.

Deeds smiled mysteriously. "Not exactly..." she said, before turning on the TV. I bit my lip. This was the moment of truth.

An Asian girl popped up on the screen, holding a placard with the words "Support Starlight".

"Hey!" she exclaimed, smiling widely. "I remember when I was really little, Starlight was my key inspiration. Her quotes were my life and she was like my best friend that I'd never met. I love her so much. I wish her luck for the rest of her life. I SUPPORT STARLIGHT!"

The next person was a scrawny blond boy with thick glasses. "Day, otherwise known as Starlight, was the person my whole school looked up to, popular kids and unpopular kids alike. She connected us together with her hope and light. We all love her so much. I SUPPORT STARLIGHT!"

The next kid was an Indian with shiny black hair in a high ponytail. "Starlight was someone everyone just knew. She was so real and genuine, and there isn't a Day spent... yes, that pun was intentional, where we don't miss her. I SUPPORT STARLIGHT!"

A couple of other kids rolled by, until the very end, when Deeds appeared.

"I," she began, and her face turned into Jase's.

"Support," he said, and then his face turned into mine.

"Starlight," I began, my face on the screen. "I love you so much, and there's no one in this world I'd rather be with. Now, I just have a question for you."

That was my que.

I walked out of my room, a big smile on my face.

"Will you marry me?" I asked, going down on one knee.

Day's eyes were brimming with tears and she let out a squeak. "Yes, yes, yes, YES!" she exclaimed, before I slid a ring over her finger and got up, only to be tackled onto my sofa as she jumped on me, hugging me tight. "I love you! Oh my gods, I love you so much!" she said, crying hard now.

Deeds grinned. "Do I hear the wedding bells?" she teased.

I turned to her and smiled. "Ringing madly," I said, and Day let out a happy noise.

It was official, then.

Popcorned and Starlight finally had a future. I'd never been happier in my whole life.

However, me being me... all I'm going to say is, throw away those empty popcorn packs, guys. It's the end of the movie.

A/N:

Alrighty guys, here it is! The Proposal is over haha xD

Damn, I can't believe I've gotten here. Just on 14th October, MSLIO turned 1 year old. It's incredible how far I've come and I couldn't have done it without every single one of you.

First of all: The readers! Thanks so much to every single person who decided this story was good enough to take a look at. No matter how long you stayed here with me.

I've put up a new story - it's called Labels! Go check it out (:

Also, can I just say... I HAVE A FAN PAGE!? WHAT!? BrazenBookaholicFans

SuperHotNacho

^^ These people have been with me through thick and thin. This last chapter is dedicated to each and every one of you who started off with me when I was just starting and stayed until the VERY END. I love you guys so much!

I have another bonus chapter coming up, which is going to be the next generation. Just a small snippet full of humor, containing the kids and possible new ships...!

I'm so sorry this took so long to publish, but I've been pretty busy. Anyway, I really hope you enjoyed that!

One last thing I'd like to tell you is the fact that I'm a 14 year old girl. Honestly, I don't understand why most people talk about how when they're in freshman year, their writing is, well... "immature". It's sad how people judge how your book will be just based on your age. To everyone out there, it doesn't matter how old you are! Your style of writing is what counts, okay!

I refrained from telling anyone until the very end. I hope that fact ^^ doesn't change your opinion of who I am as a person and what this book is.

Thanks!

Also, there's no song today. I just attached a little clip I really liked (it's 30 seconds and it's from a movie called Tomorrowland), go ahead and watch it if you like it =)

LOVE YOU ALL,

~Lexi
