Stolen blankie (age 3)

Gilda: hey crash! Is that your baby sisters blanket?

Rainbow: *pouting* no it's mine!

Gilda: well it should be your sisters, because it's for babies!

Rainbow: *tearing up* is not!

Gilda: is too your a baby! You use blankets and dummies and you still where a nappy!

Rainbow then started crying and miss feather boa walked over to them to see what was going on.

Miss feather boa: what's going on over here girls?

Rainbow: *crying* s-sh c-called m-me a-a b-baby!

Miss feather boa: *sternly* Gilda is that true?

Gilda: well she's got a blankie, where's a nappy and uses a dummy so she must be a baby!

Miss feather boa: Gilda just because someone does all that it doesn't make them a baby, and please remember that rainbow is still only 3 years old a lot of children her age have a blankie or some sort of comfort item and struggle with to go the toilet. Now I'd like you to apologise to rainbow and then we're going to go outside to play.

Gilda: *under her breath not really meaning it* sorry rainbow.

Miss feather boa: good now let's go outside. Rainbow leave blankie in here for now so that it doesn't get dirty sweetie.

Miss feather boa took the children outside to play but Gilda had other ideas she was going to hide rainbows blankie somewhere that couldn't find it. You see Gilda was pretty jealous of rainbow, because rainbow was the youngest of the students in the nursery and so she got a lot attention from the teachers. Gilda was one of the oldest and she didn't need a blankie for comfort or to sleep, she didn't use a dummy when tired, upset or ill and she was fully potty trained. All of these things rainbow wasn't. Gilda knew that after play time it would be nap time and that rainbow wouldn't be able to sleep without her blankie. She hid it in one the cupboards somewhere she could reach but knew rainbow couldn't. Just then miss feather boa and the rest of kids came in from being outside.

Miss feather boa: right kids find your things and then it's time for a nap.

The children all got there comfort items and then lied down for their naps. Rainbow was looking for her blankie in the place where she had put it, but it didn't seem to be there. She was starting to get frustrated that she didn't know where it was.

Miss feather boa: rainbow? Come on sweetie it's time for a sleep. *she sore that rainbow was getting upset* hey what's the matter?

Rainbow: *sobbing* I can't find blankie!

Miss feather boa: oh deer! Well where did you put it before we went outside?

Rainbow: * points to her bag* in there.

Miss feather boa: well do you want to use on the spare blankets for this nap time and then after we can have a look for it?

Rainbow: * wailing* NO WANT BLANKIE!

Miss feather boa sighed she knew rainbow couldn't sleep without her blankie so there was no way she was going to nap until they found it. But they couldn't look for it now because the other children were ready to go sleep. The only option she had was to take rainbow into the back room with her and try to get her to sleep with out her blankie so the other children could sleep as she knew it more than likely be an hour of tears.

Miss feather boa: shhh come on don't wake the others up. Let's go and sit in my office for a bit.

She carried a still sobbing rainbow into the office and sat her down in the changing mat.

Rainbow: *sobbing* w-want b-blankie!

Miss feather boa: shhhh I know you do and I promise as soon as nap time is over and everyone wakes up we'll look for it. Right now though I think someone needs their nappy changing don't they?

Rainbow kept sobbing and screaming for her blankie whilst Miss feather boa changed her nappy and then gave her the dummy her mother had put in her bag, hoping it bring rainbow some some sort of comfort but it wasn't doing much good. She held rainbow on her knee and held her head to her chest whilst she kept rocking her and patting her bottom to try get her to sleep.

Miss feather boa: come on now shhh shhh shh , go to sleep.

Rainbow looked like she was about finally about to doze off when the clock said it time that nap time was over and it was time to wake the other children up.

Miss feather boa: come on dashie it's time to and wake up the other children.

Rainbow: *crying* no tired!

Rainbow had cried so much she had tired herself out. Miss feather boa debated Whether or not she should just leave rainbow in the office to sleep until home time, but decided that probably wasn't the best idea so she took a now really tired and emotional rainbow out into the classroom.

Miss feather boa: come on let's go and find blankie!

Rainbow got excited by the mention of her blankie and miss feather boa had the other children help look for it. But because of where Gilda has hidden it the other children couldn't even see it let alone reach it. Well most of the children anyway, eventually a boy called soarin sore something in one the toy baskets on a higher shelf and he pointed it out to miss feather boa.

Soarin: miss feather boa look. * he pointed at the blankie*

Miss feather boa: aww well done soarin why do you go and sit with other children and tell Gilda to come here please.

Soarin: ok.

She knew that Gilda was the one who had hidden the blanket and she knew she needed to call Gilda's parents so she could speak to them about her behaviour towards rainbow. She called Gilda and rainbows parents but not before handing rainbow her blankie, which she rubbed against her cheek which miss feather boa thought was absolutely adorable. She picked rainbow up and then Gilda came over to them knowing she was in trouble, miss feather boa took them into the office and by the time they got there rainbow was nearly asleep. Their parents then came in sat down miss feather boa handed rainbow over to her mother as soon as rainbows was in mothers arms windy could feel that her nappy had been used.

Windy whistles: rainbow baby does your bum need changing?

Rainbow: *lying* no mummy!  Embarrassed that her mum has asked in front of Gilda and her parents.

Windy: I think it does come on.

She picked a sobbing rainbow up and took her into the changing room. Miss feather boa had told her what had happened so she knew that rainbow was tired and grumpy, she finished changing rainbows nappy and changed her into some pyjamas that she had bought with her. They then went back to the office where miss feather boa, Gilda and her parents were waiting for them. Windy placed rainbow in the push chair that she had bought  with her since bow and taken scootaloo with him to his parents and they had taken the car. She covered rainbow with the blanket she had bought, handed rainbow her comfort blankie and slipped the dummy into rainbows mouth.

Gilda: * in a teasing tone* has the baby had her stinky bottom changed?

Rainbow whimpered and hid her face in windy's neck.

Windy whistles: shhh it's ok.

She picked rainbow up and placed her on her lap and just kept rocking rainbow and then once she was calm enough she placed her back in the buggy, placed a blanket on top of her and then kept rocking the buggy until rainbow was fast asleep.

Gordon: so what's going on here?

Miss feather boa: Gilda would you like to tell your parents why I've called them here or should I?

Gilda: * looks down at her lap* I kept calling rainbow a baby and making fun her for wearing a nappy and using a dummy.

Miss feather boa: and what did you do before nap time?

Gilda: * now feeling embarrassed and ashamed* I hid rainbows blankie where she couldn't find it and she couldn't sleep at nap time.

Gill: why would you do something like that?

Gilda: because she gets all the attention here and it's annoying!

Miss feather boa: *sighs* Gilda how old are you again?

Gilda: 5. * the nursery children  foundation stage children ( it's an English schooling thing) were in the same classroom.

Miss feather boa: right well rainbow is only 3 which means she is still a toddler and they do need a little extra attention and help with some things, but that doesn't mean they're a baby and it doesn't mean you get to bully them. Do you understand?

Gilda: yes miss feather boa.

Miss feather boa: good now when you can you need to apologise to rainbow.

Gill: your also grounded for a week.

Gilda: but...

Gill: no buts or it'll be 2 weeks.

After the meeting windy took rainbow home and explained to bow what had happened. The family decided to order pizza and have a movie night since they decided not send rainbow to school the next day. When it was the children's bed time bow and windy decided to give them a bath change both of their nappies and bring them both to sleep with them in their room. After a short bedtime story and lots of cuddles both girls were fast asleep.
