Rainbow had been playing outside and she'd fallen over and cut her leg, it didn't look to bad of a cut so she went inside so that windy could put a plaster on it.

Windy whistles: there you go sweetie and next time be careful.

Rainbow: thanks mum and I will.

Windy whistles: ok well dinner will be ready in about 5 minutes so why don't you go and sit down.

Rainbow washed her hands and then went and sat at the dinner table with Scootaloo and her dad. They were all eating dinner but rainbow wasn't feeling too good and her leg was hurting.

Windy whistles: *looks at rainbow with concern* dashie are you ok? You've not touched your food.

Rainbow: *weakly* I feel a little funny mum.

Bow hothoof: she does look a little pale.

Windy whistles: *feels rainbows forehead* you don't feel too hot sweetheart but if you want to go and lie down you can.

Rainbow nodded and went and laid down on the sofa whilst everyone else ate their dinner. After dinner windy sat on the sofa and lifted rainbows head so it was on her lap, as she stroked rainbows hair. She noticed that rainbow had gone very pale and looked like she was about to be sick, she also noticed that rainbow seemed to be shaking and screwing her face up in pain.

Windy whistles: *concerned* are you ok baby?

Rainbow: *whimpers* n-no.

Windy whistles: *feels rainbows forehead again and gasps* ooh sweetheart you're burning up.

Rainbow: *gags* mum I feel sick!

But before windy could react rainbow threw up all over the floor and began to hyperventilate and shake again, windy knew this wasn't just a regular stomach bug.

Windy whistles: *shouts* BOW WE NEED TO GO THE HOSPITAL!

Bow came rushing in and picked his barley conscious daughter and carried her to his car.

*at the hospital*

Once they'd arrived at the hospital rainbow was seen within minutes because it was classed as an emergency. The doctor did some tests and confirmed that she had sepsis.

Windy whistles: *panicking* SEPSIS?! isn't that dangerous?

Doctors Johnson: it can be very fatal yes and is often easily misdiagnosed, fortunately we've caught rainbows in time so it can be treated with antibiotics.

Bow hothoof: sorry doctor but how did she catch it?

Doctor Johnson: I suspect it's from the cut on her leg.

Windy whistles: *feeling guilty* I knew I should've bought her here to have that looked at.

Bow hothoof: * reassuringly* honey she's a Kid and they fall over, we can't bring her to the hospital every time she gets a graze.

Doctor Johnson: as I said we've caught it in time so it can be treated and rainbow will make a full recovery, although I would like to keep her in for tonight just so we can monitor her.

Windy whistles: *sighs* ok. Honey why don't you go and get rainbow some things and I'll go and sit with her.

Bow hothoof: ok I'll be back soon.

*in the hospital room*

Doctor Johnson had given rainbow the first dose of antibiotics and had told windy that they could make rainbow a little drowsy, but left them alone in the room.

Rainbow: *tired* where am I mummy?

Windy whistles: *holds rainbows hand* you're in the hospital baby, doctor says you've got sepsis.

Rainbow: what's that?

Windy whistles: it's an infection sweetie how are you feeling?

Rainbow: tired and funny.

Windy whistles: *chuckles* that'll be the antibiotics baby.

Rainbow talked to windy for a little longer and then bow returned with some stuff for rainbow from home.

Bow hothoof: *goes over to rainbow* hey kiddo are you feeling alright?

Rainbow: *nods* just tired, when can I go home.

Windy whistles: *sighs* not until tomorrow I'm afraid sweetie doctor Johnson wants to monitor you for tonight.

Rainbow: *sadly* oh ok.

Bow hothoof: hey don't worry kiddo i bought you some books you like, and a pair of pyjamas so you don't have to sleep in the hospital gown.

Rainbow: *closing her eyes* ok.

Windy whistles: i think we should get you into the pyjamas and then let you sleep sweetie.

Rainbow: y-yeah.

Windy helped rainbow get undressed and then after her and bow and given rainbow a kiss goodnight, they left the hospital to let her sleep.

*the next day at home*

Rainbow: I still feel weird.

Windy whistles: *strokes rainbows hair* it's ok sweetie you're not going to school next week, so you'll have lots of rest ok?

Rainbow: *cuddles into windy* ok.

Windy whistles: *kisses rainbows forehead* shh go to sleep.

Rainbow fell asleep on her mother's lap and within a couple of weeks the sepsis had gone, with no long lasting effects.
