No More Dummy (age 3)

Today was the day that rainbows parents were going to try and take her off the dummy, a task that wouldn't be easy. It's not that rainbow was overly obsessed or attached to it, it's just that she was quite an emotional child and the dummy was one of her comfort items not to mention the fact that she can't sleep without it.  She didn't use it all the time, just mainly at night but now was the time to take it off her for good.

Windy whistles: I don't know how we're going to do this.

Bow hothoof: I think we'll just have to be blunt and take it off of her.

Windy whistles: *sighs* I agree. Should we do it before or after bed time?

Bow hothoof: we might as well get it over with.

Windy whistles: yeah you're right.

They went downstairs to get the girls ready for bed, but first they we're going to have to get rainbow to give up the dummy.

Windy whistles: dashie can we talk for a minute please baby?

Rainbow: what mummy?

Windy whistles: well me and daddy have been talking and we've decided it's time to get rid of the dummy, you're getting a big girl now and we don't think you need it anymore.

Rainbow: *lip starts to quiver* b-but I-I d-do n-need I-it!

Windy whistles: *picks rainbow up and places her on her knee* hey come on now, none of that shh.

Rainbow just kept crying. And bow was starting to get fed up with it.

Bow hothoof: *mutters* this isn't working. *sternly* Rainbow dash look at me. Me and mummy have decided that it's time for the dummy to go. If you don't stop these silly tears then your blankie and tank can go too.

Rainbow was shocked by her dads tone of voice, she's never heard him speak like that before especially not to her. She got up and walked to her bedroom still sniffing.

Windy whistles: did you really need to be so harsh?

Bow hothoof: she needed to be told windy, she just going to keep crying if I didn't tell her.

Windy whistles: bow she's 3! And why did you threaten to take away her other comfort items as well?

Bow hothoof: it got her to stop didn't it?

Just then they heard crying coming from rainbows bedroom.

Windy whistles: I'll go you might scare her. Why don't you go into scootaloo?

Bow hothoof: yeah ok.

Windy went into rainbows bedroom and found her cuddling her blankie and soft tortoise. She went and sat on the bed then picked rainbow up.

Windy whistles: shhh baby, what's the matter?

Rainbow: *crying* d-daddy m-mean!

Windy whistles: oh baby he wasn't trying to be mean. He just wants you to give up the dummy so you'll be nice and healthy.

Rainbow: *sniffling* o-ok b-but h-he n-no t-take t-tank a-and b-blankie?

Windy whistles: no baby he won't take them. Now come on time for night nights.

She placed rainbow on her lap and kept rocking and making shushing sounds, within minutes rainbow was fast asleep the first time ever without her dummy.
