Rainbow was now 12 months old and her parents were hoping she was going to start talking soon, she'd made the occasional cute noise and murmur but nothing that was actually recognisable, just baby talk. Bow was sat with her on the sofa giving her a bottle and getting her ready for a nap. He took her upstairs and laid her down in the cot (crib) and covered her with the blanket.

Bow hothoof: *leans down and kisses rainbows forehead* night dashie.

He went downstairs and saw that windy was looking through a book so he went and sat next to her.

Bow hothoof: hey what are you reading?

Windy whistles: it's just a book about words that children should be saying by the time they are the age that rainbow is now.

Bow hothoof: I wouldn't worry too much about it, I'm sure she'll talk when she's ready.

Windy whistles: I know.

After an hour of talking there was a cry coming from the baby monitor.

Bow hothoof: sounds like someone's awake. Would you like me to go and bring her down?

Windy whistles: if you don't mind?

Bow hothoof: Of course I don't.

After bow had been upstairs and took rainbow out of her cot and changed her nappy, he bought her downstairs and handed her over to windy.

Bow hothoof: why don't I get dinner made while you have some time with her? Since I got my time before she went to sleep.

Windy whistles: that would be great thank you.

Bow then hands rainbow over to windy and goes into the kitchen to start making dinner. Windy was gently nuzzling and rocking rainbow in her arms.

Windy whistles: *strokes rainbows cheek* you're really cute.

Rainbow: *looks cutely at her mother* m-mama?

Windy whistles: *gasps* you said mama? Bow come here quick!

Bow hothoof: *runs in from the kitchen in a panic* what's wrong?!

Windy whistles: *giggles* nothing, dashie said her first word. Can you say it again sweetie?

Rainbow: *sweetly* mama.

Bow hothoof: *smiles with joy* awww that is so adorable. Hey dashie can you say dada?

Rainbow just looked at him with her confused little eyes and cute smile.

Rainbow: *happily* mama.

Bow hothoof: *chuckles* baby steps. Baby steps.
