First injection (age 6 weeks)

Rainbow was now 6 weeks old which meant it was time for her to get her jabs (shots). The jab was to help build an immunity against, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, haemophilus influenzas type b and polio. (Yes I did research this, I'm not making it up)

Bow was going to work so windy had the task of taking rainbow to the doctor, rainbow didn't know what was going on and her parents were hoping that not too much fuss was going to happen. However they knew this was not likely. Windy was busy feeding rainbow when bow came down to say goodbye before he headed out to work.

Bow hothoof: *kisses the side of windy's head* hey honey you ok?

Windy whistles: *sighs* not really, I'm dreading today.

Bow hothoof: I know but it has to be done.

Windy whistles: I know, but she's so little and it's very possible it will make her sick for a day a or day.

Bow hothoof: a bit sick for a day or 2 is better than the alternative.

Windy whistles: you're right, I just worry.

Bow hothoof: I know you do. *kisses her on the lips* anyway I best be off, call me later. *kisses rainbows forehead and whispers* bye baby.

Windy whistles finished feeding rainbow so she went upstairs to get them both dressed, after that it was time to head to the doctors.

*at the doctors*

Doctor Johnson: *offers his hand to windy* hi, I'm doctor Johnson and you must be windy whistles.

Windy whistles: *returns the hand shake* I am indeed, nice to meet you.

Doctor Johnson: *gives rainbow his finger to grab hold of and smiles* and who's this little cutie?

Rainbow starts to murmur and coo at the doctor in the most adorable way possible.

Windy whistles: *chuckles* this is rainbow dash, or rainbow for short.

Doctor Johnson: and is rainbow the person we are seeing today?

Windy whistles: *getting nervous* she is. We've come to get her 6 weeks vaccinations.

Doctor Johnson: ok so she's going to need 3 vaccines, 2 are done via an injection administered into the leg and the 3rd is done orally. Is there a particular one you would like to start with?

Windy whistles: I think we'll do the oral one first, she might be crying too much after the injections.

Doctor Johnson: ok that's not a problem.

The doctor gave rainbow the oral vaccine, which she did fuss over slightly but nothing too bad. Now it was time for the part that windy had been dreading the most.

Doctor Johnson: ok so it'll be one shot in each leg.

Windy whistles: *sees that rainbow is becoming restless* that's fine, is it ok if I hold her?

Doctor Johnson: of course it is, I'll be as quick as I can.

He administered the first shot and rainbow started screaming and had tears rolling down her face. Windy started rocking her gently as the doctor was getting the next one prepared.

Windy whistles: *rocks rainbow in her arms* shhh sweetie, it's nearly over.

Doctor Johnson gave her the second and final shot and then it was done. However rainbows crying did not stop,so windy gave her the dummy that was in the bag and just continued to rock her gently hoping it would calm her down and get her to sleep.

Windy whistles: *rubs rainbows back soothingly* shhhh shhh baby, it's all over now.

Doctor Johnson: we're all done, she was very brave.

Windy whistles: thank you. Are there any side effects that we should know about?

Doctor Johnson: yes she might be a little under the weather for a couple of days, should be nothing more than just a slight temperature. I'll give you a prescription for some calpol to bring it down, if needed.

Windy whistles: ok thank you doctor Johnson.

Doctor Johnson: not a problem.

*back at home*

Windy had been to the chemist (pharmacy) and picked up the medicine which had to be given via a Syringe due to rainbow being so young. They'd been home for an hour now and rainbow had not stopped crying, windy had taken her temperature and it had risen to 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit.) she was about to give rainbow her medicine when bow walked through the door.

Bow hothoof: *walks up to windy and hugs her from behind* hey darling everything ok?

Windy whistles: *sighs* no dashies got a temperature, and I need to give her this medicine and I haven't even started dinner yet.

Bow hothoof: Why don't I give rainbow the medicine and you go and do dinner? It's been a long day and i could do with a cuddle.

Windy whistles: I think it might be a long night as well, but thank you. I'll get our dinner cooked at get rainbow a bottle, though I'm not sure if she'll have any.

Bow hothoof: worth a try.

He took rainbow from windy and gave her the medicine. Afterwards he sat with her on the sofa rocking her softly and stroking her cheek.Windy came back in with the bottle and handed it to bow to feed to their baby. However rainbow wasn't feeling well at all and just turned her head away and cried more whenever the bottle came near her mouth. Eventually her parents got her to drink some of the milk, it wasn't the full bottle but it was better than nothing. They burped rainbow and then went on to eat their own meal. Once they'd finished they decided it was time to get rainbow ready for bed, they gave her a bath, and changed her into a clean nappy, a fresh set of pyjamas and gave her some more medicine.

Windy whistles: *puts the dummy in rainbows mouth and slowly and gently rocks her back and forth* shhh shh good girl, it's alright go to sleep mummy's right here.

Within a few minutes rainbow was fast asleep, so windy laid her down in her cot, put the blanket on her and kissed her forehead.

Windy whistles: *dimming the light and closing the door* night night sweetheart.

Bow hothoof: hey did dashie go down alright?

Windy whistles: *sighs from tiredness* yeah she's not well though the poor thing.

Bow hothoof: I know but it's better than the alternative.

Which it was.
