Cavity (age 7)

Rainbow had been having trouble with her tooth for a while it had been aching whenever she ate anything, or even just when she thought about it for too long. The family were sat eating their dinner but rainbow was struggling because of her tooth.

Bow hothoof: this is delicious honey.

Windy whistles: thank you dear, how is it kids?

Scootaloo: *with a mouth fall* its good mummy!

Windy whistles: thank you sweetie but please don't talk with your mouth full.

Scootaloo: *swallows the food* ok.

Windy whistles: *looks at rainbow* what about you sweetie you seem to have hardly eaten anything?

Rainbow: it's great mum,I'm just not very hungry.

Windy whistles: *concerned* oh ok, do you feel alright?

Rainbow: yeah I'm fine.

*a week later*

The pain in rainbows tooth hadn't gotten any better, in fact if anything it'd gotten worse. She was sat in the living room with scootaloo whilst bow and Windy were doing jobs around the house. They'd given the girls an apple each and whilst scootaloo was really enjoying hers, rainbow was having a hard time eating it because her tooth hurt so much. Finally she decided she was going to try and eat it.

Rainbow: *takes bite of the apple and then screams* owwww!

Scootaloo: *panicking* dashie what's wrong?!

Rainbow was now clutching the side of her face and crying in pain, so Scootaloo went to fetch their parents. When she came back with windy rainbow was really sobbing and was even rocking herself back and forth.

Windy whistles: *sit next to rainbow and strokes her hair* shhh shh what's the matter sweetie?

Rainbow: *sobbing* m-my t-tooth h-hurts!

Windy whistles: your tooth hurts?

Rainbow: *whimpers and nods*

Windy whistles: ok can I have a look at it?

Rainbow: *calmer* o-ok.

Windy looked at rainbows tooth and was shocked  at the state it was in.

Windy whistles: oh baby it looks like you might have a cavity, I think a trip to the dentist is needed.

Rainbow: *starting to get upset again* n-no!

Windy whistles: *rubs rainbows back* shhh I know you don't like it, but it's the only way to make the pain stop ok?

Rainbow: *sniffling* o-ok.

Windy whistles: *kisses her forehead* good girl.

*at the dentist*

Windy had left scootaloo at home with bow whilst she took rainbow to the dentist, they were sat in the waiting room and rainbow was really nervous she really didn't like the dentist. She was still in a lot of pain so that didn't help, but windy had given her some children's pain relief to try and numb it.

Windy whistles: it'll be over soon sweetie.

Dentist: rainbow dash?

Windy whistles: that's us come on baby.

They went into the room and rainbow sat on the dentist chair whilst she asked some questions.

Dentist: ok so what seems to be the problem today?

Windy whistles: well rainbow is having trouble eating on her right side and she seems to be in a lot of pain, I've looked in her mouth and I think it's cavity.

Dentist: ok well I'll have a look. *looks in rainbows mouth* ooh yes there does seem to be a cavity there, quite a deep one as well. Normally we would say to come back in a week to treat it, but she seems to be in quite a lot of pain with it so we can do it right now if you wish?

Windy whistles: oh yes please.

Dentist: ok has she had any medication at all?

Windy whistles: just some children's pain relief before we came here.

Dentist: ok is she allergic to anything?

Windy whistles: no.

Dentist: right well that's all the questions I have, shall we get started?

Windy looked at rainbow for an answer and she nodded nervously.

Dentist: ok I'll need to administer anaesthetic though is that ok?

Windy whistles: *sighs* yeah it's fine.

Rainbow hated needles and always cried whenever they came near her, but with the promise of sweets and a movie afterwards she managed to get through procedure.

*after the treatment*

Dentist: well done rainbow, would you like to choose a treat from my special selection?

Rainbow: *shaky* y-yes p-please.

She chose a lollipop and a colouring book and then it was time for them to go. When they got back home rainbow was a little drowsy from the medicine, but the dentist had told them that could happen.

Windy whistles: sweetie why don't you go and lie down for an hour? I'll wake you up later.

Rainbow: *drowsily* ok.

Rainbow went upstairs and as soon her head hit the pillow she was fast asleep, the pain in her tooth finally gone.
