Shaken, but alive

Asiko's ferocious look was framed perfectly by her pearly blades as death raced towards me and I regretted not closing my eyes sooner. I squeezed them shut and tried to shuffle away from her, but the wall was unyielding. A soft sigh escaped my lips as the whistling of her katanas drew ever nearer, then a sharp pair of 'twang's reached my ears.

I looked up to see shock painted all over Asiko's face, her blades having stopped short once they reached my threads. Clearly neither of us had expected my threads to be this durable, and Hawks immediately took advantage of it, "Tie her up, Y/N!"

My fingers twitched as I rapidly wrapped threads around Asiko's body, crimson feathers positioning her limbs just before gleaming strings tied them down. I eventually braided my threads into two braids, one for each hand, and attached it to the ceiling. I then yanked as hard as I could and Asiko lifted off the ground a bit, dangling in mid-air.

I wasn't strong enough though, but just as my feet started to lift off the ground, red feathers alleviated most of Asiko's weight. I sagged against the wall as Aikso writhed and Hawks began making calls, and a few minutes later, the police were here. They apprehended Asiko, then began questioning me and Hawks. We went back to the police station for some more paperwork and I got to meet the chief of police.

He reprimanded me, then bowed to me, "But, even though your actions were illegal, you still played a key role in capturing the Cutter. The media will hear that Hawks' adopted daughter was kidnapped by the Cutter after the Cutter found out Hawks had been assigned to her, then Hawks rescued his daughter and caught the Cutter. Unfortunately, this means you will be publicly named as Hawks' daughter, are you ready for that?"

I nodded, "Fine by me."

With a police escort, we then went to the hospital to get ourselves patched up. We went home after picking up my phone from the store, and I found that I had a message from Kiyoko, 'I'm sorry.'

When I tried to reply, I realized she'd also blocked me. I'd had to name Kiyoko as the Cutter's daughter and she was definitely on the run now, and I truly couldn't feel worse about it. After a quick microwave dinner, I couldn't hold back the tears any longer, "I'm sorry!"

After my relative silence since we'd gotten home, the abrupt shout startled Hawks. A feather wafted over and tickled me on the nose, then Hawks replied, "No, I'm sorry. I knew you were with Kiyoko but I didn't stop you. I thought you'd want to learn your lesson on your own and you got hurt. I-I couldn't protect you after all."

He was looking down at his feet by the time he'd finished and I tearily shook my head, "It wasn't your fault. I should've listened to you!"

Both of us were too stubborn to let each other admit we were at fault so we just stood there for a while, then I was gently picked up by a few feathers and carried over to Hawks. He hugged me, not caring about the tears soaking into his jacket.

~~Timeskip~~

I trudged into school with my head down as rumors reached my ears, "Is L/N really Hawks' daughter?!? It sounds kinda fake but the article said she was so..."

One person trailed off and another took their place, "She was probably attacked by the Cutter because she's Hawks' daughter. But still, I never knew."

Murmurs of agreement came from their general direction and I wanted to melt into the pavement. I was so focused on putting one foot in front of the other that I didn't even notice Midoriya until I walked into him. He looked extremely nervous, "H-hi L/N. D-do you wanna walk to class t-together?"

I nodded and a relieved grin stretched across his face, "So I'm forgiven?"

I tilted my head in confusion, "What do you mean? We only fell apart because of me..."

He shook his head as we walked, "I noticed that they were bullying you and I realized it was probably because of me so I stayed away but they didn't stop and then I didn't know what to do and-"

I cut off his nervous rambling with a hug, "Don't worry about it. It's all okay now."

He blushed furiously as he stammered, "A-anyways, I wanted to t-tell you... I wanted to tell you that I can still become a hero!"

He gained confidence as he spoke and pride filled his voice. Then, in a rare display of bravery, he grabbed my hands in his and happily announced, "I'll never leave you behind again! And I'll make it up to you by becoming the number one hero!"

A second later, he glanced down at his hands and made a mortified noise. His blush was back and he was bowing down to me, muttering, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sor-"

I chuckled, then gave him a light smack to get him out of his loop of saying 'I'm sorry!', "You can stop apologizing now! I actually thought that was quite brave of you and lord only knows the number one hero needs to be the bravest of them all! And a fair warning: I might not be aiming for the top, but you bet your ass I'm gonna become a great hero too!"
