New school

I gave myself a confident smile as I looked in the mirror, hoping my confidence would keep me going through my entire first day at Aldera Junior High. Hawks walked up behind me and patted me on the shoulder, "You ready, Y/N?"

I gave him a firm nod and he grinned, "Alright! Let's go then!"

We pulled up to my new school in Hawks' car and he glanced at me from the front seat just a before I got out, "Best of luck to ya!"

I winked at him, "Likewise - Don't get hit by a building, okay?"

As he wondered what I meant, I quickly slipped out of the car, shouldered my F/C backpack, and closed the car door. I took a deep breath of the fresh air and smiled to myself. If this was how the first day started, it couldn't be that bad, could it?

Hawks drove off as I straightened my uniform and rummaged through my bag for the school's map. I quickly oriented the map, then located my homeroom. I nodded to myself, then set off.

Homeroom was chaos. There were two kids that caught my attention, one of which because he stood out, and one of which because he didn't stand out.

Katsuki Bakugo, a spiky-haired, mean-tempered kid with an explosion quirk that he loved flaunting.

Izuku Midoriya, a green-haired, shy, yet smart kid with seemingly no quirk, but he more than made up for it in brains.

The former called the latter 'Deku,' and the latter called the former 'Kacchan,' but even though they'd nicknamed each other, they didn't seem to get along at all.

Then there were a pair of girls called Roe Karin and Haru Shiro who'd befriended Brittany Peters, a transfer student from America with a language quirk. Karin and Shiro seemed to already be friends, but they'd pounced on the transfer student as soon as she walked in. The trio seemed the mean type, but I'd be fine if I left them alone and minded my own business.

In Home Ec, I was paired up with Bakugo, which went about as well as you'd expect. He could handle knives scarily well and was bossy, but I didn't mind. We were making rice-balls and I suggested salmon for the filling, but Bakugo shot that down instantly, "No, we're doing chicken!"

I gave him a 'bruh' look, but did as he said anyways. As I pan-fried the chicken, I muttered under my breath, "We wouldn't have had to cook salmon."

To my great surprise, Bakugo heard me. His red eyes met my E/C ones as he snarled, "Extra-"

I cut him off at the first word, "My name's Y/N L/N, nice to meet you."

He was positively foaming at the mouth now, "Look, L/N, I don't care what you think, you damn pebble, because I give the orders around here!" (A/N: This is not a Yagami Yato reference, if anything, it's a coincidence.)

I nodded along, then gave him a confused look, "Sorry, did you say something? I couldn't hear you over the sass!"

Little did I know, I'd angered more than just the angry pomeranian. Brittany, seething with rage and jealousy, marched up to me and yanked my H/C hair out of its F/H. (F/H = Favorite Hairstyle - I really should do a key...) I gritted my teeth as pain coursed through my scalp, but said nothing as Brittany walked away with a satisfied smirk. I crouched down and carefully combed through my hair with my fingers, tugging out the torn strands onto the floor while trying not to touch my head too much. I winced as my fingers brushed a particularly painful area, then looked up to see Bakugo crouching down in front of me, "Oi, L/N, what just happened!?"

I rolled my eyes, "That, Bakugo, was jealousy at its finest. Have you got a hair tie?"

He shook his head and stood up, then called, "Oi, any of you extras got a hair tie!?"

Brittany was only too happy to provide him with one, but the happiness was wiped right off her porcelain face when she saw Bakugo handing it to me. I smiled at him as I tied my hair back into a simple H/L ponytail, "Thanks, Bakugo."

Only through unimaginable luck did the chicken not burn, or even overcook, and we finished the onigiri with no more interruptions.

As the rice's flavor hit my tongue, I had a realization, "Bakugo, you were right! Salmon wouldn't have gone with this rice at all!"

He gave me a smug look as he munched on his own onigiri, but said nothing.

At lunch, I sat by myself outside. I munched on some homemade F/F as Bakugo and Midoriya walked outside. Bakugo was accompanied by two of his lackeys whereas Midoriya was alone. Brittany's gang watched from a doorway as Bakugo got all up in Midoriya's face, taunting him for being quirkless. I set down my lunch and marched up, then stood between them with my arms outstretched, blocking Bakugo, "Stop that!"

Now that he was around his pals, he had a reputation to uphold, "Who are you, you damn extra!?"

I took a step closer to Bakugo, then leaned in and whispered in his ear, "Your worst nightmare. Or so I've been told!"

Then I took a few steps back, winked at Bakugo as I grabbed Midoriya's hand, and led Midoriya back to my stuff. Bakugo was dumbfounded. He clearly wasn't used to being stood up against. Midoriya was blushing so hard that his entire face had turned beet-red, "Th-thanks!"

I smiled at him, which made him blush even harder, then let go of his hand, "No problem! I'm Y/N L/N!"
