New home

Hawks was off on his assignment the day after he told me and I took a day off school to move my stuff into my new room. After Shoto returned from school, he instantly went to the dojo and began working out. I joined him, but soon ran out of stamina and just watched him. After dinner, which consisted solely of chicken ramen, I checked my phone. I had a text from Midoriya, 'You weren't at school today, is everything alright?'

I smiled when I thought of him worrying about me, then sent my reply, 'House got broken into on Saturday so I took the day off to move my stuff to my new room. You won't believe whose house I'm staying in right now!'

As expected, his response came quickly, 'It's good that you're okay and in a safe place now! Whose house are you in?'

Before he had a chance to stop me, I took a quick selfie of me grinning and doing the peace sign, Endeavor, Shoto, and a bit of Natsuo and Fuyumi, then sent it to Midoriya, 'Endeavor's!'

It took him a bit longer this time, but I soon knew why, 'Sorry, I just dropped my phone! And what!?!? That's so amazing! What's he like?'

Endeavor grumbled something about 'kids these days,' then went out for a night patrol. I texted Midoriya late into the night, aka 8pm which was the bedtime assigned to him by none other than All Might, then did some homework until 9. I fell into an uneasy sleep and woke up with the image of Asiko's face as she was about to slice me in half burned into my mind.

My heart was racing as I slowly made my way downstairs, too disturbed to fall asleep again. It was 4am. Fantastic. I sat down at the dinner table, then noticed a light on. Trembling as I remembered a similar experience a few days prior, I grabbed a sharp kitchen knife and slowly approached it. I kept my steps quiet and my stance low, prepared to fight if necessary.

I soon recognized the room with the light on as the dojo and I could hear someone audibly breathing from inside. I took a deep breath, calmed my nerves, and steeled myself, then opened the sliding door fully in one motion.

Shoto stood there, punching mid-air in controlled movements, and the moment I saw him, I dropped the knife and fell to my knees, dizzy with relief. He flinched slightly at the sudden noises, alarm in his eyes as he saw me sagging against the doorway, "Y/N! Are you okay?!"

I nodded, "I thought you were a burglar or something. Thank goodness you're not; I don't think I would've been able to handle it if you were."

He guided me to the bench press and let me sit down properly, his eyes scanning me for injuries. Eventually, he straightened up and closed the dojo's door, "You're wrong."

I tilted my head in confusion, "About what?"

He gave me a look that toed the line between proud and concerned, "About if I had been a burglar. You would've been fine, and even if you couldn't handle them alone, all you'd have to have done is shout and we would've helped."

My brain, which was sluggish from just waking up and the ebbing of adrenaline, couldn't comprehend what he'd said, "What do you mean?"

His eyes met mine, "You're strong. Stronger than you know. Probably even stronger than me."

I snorted with laughter, "Sure, and I'm All Might's secret love child."

I couldn't help but laugh at his alarmed look, "It was a joke, dummy!"

He sweat-dropped, "I know."

Suddenly, we heard a knock on the dojo's doorframe and Natsuo, in a dry voice, spoke, "Oi, keep the flirting down, some of us mortals are trying to sleep."

Shoto tilted his head in confusion and I thanked all the gods I knew of that he was denser than dense. Natsuo winked at me, then slipped into the hallway again. I blushed and covered my face so Shoto couldn't see. Something occurred to him and he glanced at me, "You never did tell me why you were awake. Did you have a nightmare or something?"

I nodded and he sighed sympathetically, "Do you want to tell me about it?"

After a moment's hesitation, I told him about Asiko and the kidnapping. When I was finished, he had a faintly alarmed, but mostly gentle expression, "I saw the article, but it only said you were present, not that you almost died."

Just as I was about to say something, it occurred to me that I didn't know my own father's name. I'd only ever called him Hawks or some other paternal name like dad or father (or twat), but I didn't even know his last name! I closed my eyes and shook my head a bit, storing that information for later, then continued as planned, "Kenji said the media would only know that my dad saved me because if it were official that I played a part in the fight, there might've been severe backlash against the police or my father. I guess I don't mind people not knowing about my role in the fight against the Cutter, maybe I actually prefer it, but if no-one knows, they also can't help..."

Shoto looked thoughtful for a while, then he looked me in the eyes. He spoke haltingly, as if unsure of his own words, "I... I don't know if it's- if I'm enough, but now I know... about Asiko. Maybe- Would you- Do you mind if-"

I read between the lines and gently cut him off, "Do you mean to say that you want me to confide in you?"

With a relieved expression, he nodded, "Yes! If you don't mind, that is..."

I pulled him onto the benchpress next to me, guiding him into a sitting position. He was stiff when I first leaned my head on his shoulder, but gradually relaxed as I exhaled, "I don't mind at all."
