Looking up

Reader pov

My heart stopped. I froze in place as every pair of eyes in the yard looked my way. Fear coursed through my veins as I slowly looked up, trying to see what their expressions were.

They were looking at me with disgust.

I held my head down and ran from the school, not seeing Midoriya and Bakugo unconsciously start after me, then stop once they realized I was running too fast. Through tear-filled eyes, I looked up at the school's roof, then shot a thread from my index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers at the roof. Once they connected, I clenched that hand into a fist and shortened each of the threads at the same time, pulling me upwards and onto the roof. I released the threads and kept running along the concrete. I quickly used the same method to travel across the entire school's rooftops to the road, where I then looked for the route to the subway station. Once I recognized the street, I sprinted away from the jeering chants behind me.

~~5 Minutes Later~~

I pressed my subway card against the scanner, barely noticing when the gate opened in front of me. My whole body felt numb and internally, I was still reeling. With a shell-shocked expression and puffy, red eyes, I waited for my train. Once it arrived, I wordlessly boarded and sat down right at the back, in a corner where no-one would disturb me.

~~30 Minutes Later~~

I let myself into the apartment, using the key Hawks had given me to unlock the door, then re-locked it behind me. I hurriedly threw my bag in its usual corner, then began peeling off my uniform. I walked to my room in my undergarments, then pulled on my favorite onesie. I wrapped myself in my F/C blanket, then slid down the wall as the tears started rolling.

-Hawks pov-

My phone buzzed as I was walking around in the city and I immediately picked up, "You've reached Hawks, how may I help you?"

A sigh traveled across the line, then, "Hello, Hawks. I'm Aki, the receptionist at Aldera Junior High, and I'm calling to inform you that your daughter, Y/N L/N, has left school without signing out. She also used her quirk to run on the roofs, which could've gotten her hurt or killed, so I hope you'll discipline her once you find her. According to several witnesses, she was in tears as she ran out and the event was triggered by a student named Brittany shouting 'Y/N's adopted' in the schoolyard during lunch. Has Y/N contacted you in any way?"

I held the phone tightly, "No, she hasn't, but I think I know where she went."

Aki sighed in relief, "That's good. If you, a pro-hero, are looking for her, we won't need to involve the police. Best of luck finding her, Hawks."

And with that, she hung up. I didn't bother calling the home phone, she wouldn't answer even if I did. I took off with a flap and angled myself towards my apartment block. Please wait for me, Y/N, and please be okay when I find you.

~~10 Minutes Later~~

As I unlocked the apartment door, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket again. I pulled it out as I stepped into my apartment, reading the text, 'Enji's been really harsh with Shoto today, could he come over?'

It was from Fuyumi, ever the concerned older sister. I quickly replied, 'Sure, Y/N might not be in the best mood either though.'

An audible sigh of relief escaped me when I saw Y/N's school uniform strewn across the living room and her bag thrown in the corner, then Fuyumi texted back, 'We'll be there in 10 minutes. I hope they can cheer each other up!'

It was a good idea, but I'd have to find Y/N first. It was a very short-lived quest, I found her after all of 30 seconds of searching. She was tucked away in the corner of her bedroom, huddled against the wall in her favorite onesie and F/C blanket. She was asleep, but also frowning and her eyes were red and puffy, but I had no clue what I could do about it. I glanced around the room and my eyes alighted on F/T, Y/N's favorite toy which she'd brought with her from the orphanage.

I carefully placed F/T in Y/N's arms and watched her pull it close. A moment later, a small smile appeared on her lips, even though she was still asleep. I quietly closed the door behind me, then called the school to tell them I'd found her and that she was safe. I then texted Fuyumi, 'Text me when you get here and don't use the doorbell, Y/N's sleeping.'

A few minutes after Fuyumi agreed to text me once she arrived with Shoto, my phone buzzed. Sure enough, it was Fuyumi, 'Shoto and I are outside.'

I let them in and closed the door behind them, then reminded them to take off their shoes. Shoto carried with him a bowl of cold soba, and Fuyumi held a bowl of ice cream. When she noticed my glance at them, she quickly explained, "We quickly stopped at F/R for some takeaway."

I smiled, "That's Y/N's favorite restaurant as well."

Fuyumi laughed, "What a coincidence!"

Shoto quickly finished his soba, then glanced at me, "Where's L/N?"

I showed him to Y/N's room, "Be quiet, she's sleeping."

He nodded and went inside, quietly closing the door after himself. I heard faint murmurs as I walked away, but just as I was about to reprimand Shoto, I heard Y/N's voice as well. I decided to leave them alone and returned to the living room.

~~4 Hours Later~~

Fuyumi got up from the sofa with a yawn, "I think it's time to go home now. Should I get Shoto or will you?"

I graciously stood up and headed to Y/N's room, but I paused when I heard Y/N's hopeful, yet excited voice, "Wait, so you mean I can be a hero too?!"
