ONE

Daniella never really understood why people fell in love with people from the wrong side, until it happened to her.

It was in her fourth year when Daniella first noticed him, Draco Malfoy. The Malfoy boy that had no kind bones in his body and was only known as the most cruel devilish person at Hogwarts. She grew up hating him, it's what she only knew. Her instinct was to hate Draco Malfoy as everyone else had. Hating Draco Malfoy was as normal as taking a breath. She never thought twice about hating him, she was best friends with Ginny, Harry, Hermione, and Ron, of course it was second nature. Nothing was more usual than hating Draco Malfoy. But that winter something changed in Daniella, something she tried desperately to push out but never could. It was winter break, only few students were still at Hogwarts, as everyone had gone home for Christmas. All but a few students, including Draco Malfoy. Daniella's parents never really had a liking for Ron's family, although she never understood why. Every year Daniella had been invited to stay for Christmas, but every year her parents forced her to decline. Daniella and her parents never had an amazing relationship that's why she always chose to stay.

-----

It was Christmas morning. To Daniella it felt like any other day. Her parents never got her anything for Christmas since her first year and she had no friends to spend the day with. Dreading the long day ahead of her, she headed down to the Great Hall to eat breakfast. Daniella always loved the food that was served on holidays, they were truly the best breakfasts Daniella had ever tasted in her life. Daniella was in Gryffindor and because of that, she had to sit directly across the Slytherin table. For some reason unknown to Daniella, she hadn't had to endure any mocking or rude jokes from Slytherin ever since she arrived at Hogwarts but even then, she still sighed when she sat down near Draco and his friends.

After breakfast had been served, the few students in the dining hall began to talk to their friends and open up their gifts from one another and their parents. Daniella looked around with sad eyes, desperate to know what a true holiday felt but knowing she would never get that experience. Dumbledore never allowed the students to go into their common rooms before it was late at night on Holidays and Daniella learned to hate the rule very quickly. As Daniella sat at the Gryffindor table quietly, she heard Draco whisper her name. Daniella's head perked up and before she even knew what she was turned around to Draco and met his eyes. "Do you need something, or are you already so bored you can't help but talk about me." Daniella's face turned red with shock as soon as she realized what she said.

Draco immediately snapped back at her, "No need to get so upset Daniella, I was simply telling them how you got a better grade than Granger on the potions exam. And for your information I think your name has been in everyone's conversation at least once. I mean you're the only one here who is actually alone, on Christmas."

"I really appreciate it." Daniella said sarcastically as she turned back around to her food and rested her head on her hand, attempting to not get upset by Draco's comment.

Although as Daniella ate her food she couldn't help but realize her leg bouncing up and down with anxiety. Whatever that shift was in her surrounding her feelings towards Draco Malfoy, she didn't like it. It made her palms all clammy and she got so nervous every time she talked to him. Daniella sometimes thought maybe the same thing could have happened to Draco but she always pushed the thought out of her mind as she was so desperate to ignore her feelings. As she ate she wondered why the Draco Malfoy was bragging to his friends about her grade on the Potions test. Daniella had caught him staring at her a few times in class but never thought of it until then. Her and Draco really did have so many classes together and she hated every second of it. She tried to stop thinking about him, she became frustrated with herself as her mind and body felt two different ways towards him. She would never want to betray her friends in such a way no matter what but she couldn't help the way she felt when he walked into a room. She used to hate it but now, she wasn't sure, she didn't hate it, yet she didn't like it.

Next thing Daniella knew she could hear footsteps come up to her and sit down. She turned to see who it was and it was Draco. Daniella's stomach dropped to her feet and she looked everywhere but his eyes. She kept telling herself to calm down but she couldn't. She told herself to think about her friends and ignore the butterflies in her stomach but she couldn't. She didn't know what was wrong with her and she was sure one day it was going to kill her.

"What are you doing here Malfoy?"

"Hello to you too." Said Malfoy sarcastically with a small laugh.

Daniella fell silent for a few short seconds before Draco began talking again.

"You know I'm not that bad to talk to and seeing no one is making any effort to talk to you that just makes my rate go up higher for being a good conversation starter."

"That's crazy, you can leave now." Daniella said.

"You know I don't think Dumbledore would like to hear about such negativity on Christmas Day" Draco proclaimed.

"Draco you don't even know me, why do you care? You torment my friends all the time, so why would you think I would be thrilled to have a conversation with you."

"Have I ever tormented you?" Draco asked as if he already knew the answer.

"Yes."

"When?"

"Here and there." She said confidently although as she began to think her confidence began to falter.

"Exactly." Draco said. "You don't have a liable story. Because get this Daniella, I've never tormented you, only your friends."

"Close enough to tormenting me. You know it basically has the same effect."

"Not the same." Draco said.

"I don't care what you think is the same and isn't. Now leave please." Daniella said quickly, wanting to get the conversation over as quickly as possible after realizing just how nervous she was.

"No."

"Yes, Draco."

"You're gonna have to try harder than that to get me to leave you alone." Draco said in a whisper, with a smirk growing on his lips.

Daniella got such a large sensation of butterflies. Not only were they in her stomach they were in her arms, her legs, they were in her entire body. She was so flustered and caught off guard she didn't know what to do with herself. Daniella sat there blushing for a few seconds. She could see Draco watching her and smiling for the few seconds that she froze. Once Daniella gathered herself, she got up, grabbed her things and walked as quickly out of the Great Hall as she could. On her way out, she heard professor Snape tell her that she was not permitted to leave but Daniella acted as if she couldn't hear him.

Once Daniella got to her dorm she sat in her bed trying to process what had happened. She sat there for what felt like hours, thinking about Draco and their conversation. She knew it shouldn't have been enough to keep her thinking for as long as it did but she couldn't help it. Next thing Daniella knew it was dinner.

Daniella got down to the Great Hall and started walking to a spot to sit and eat. She glanced up as she found a spot away from the few students sitting at the Gryffindor table and saw Draco sitting down eating his dinner with Blaise. Daniella stopped walking and froze. Draco looked up at Daniella and smirked, Daniella's eyes widened as she quickly turned around and walked out of the Great Hall.

An hour passed by and Daniella knew the kitchen staff would be cleaning up the food  soon. Convinced Draco still wouldn't still be eating, she headed back down to the Great Hall to get some food to take up to her dorm although when she entered the Great Hall, Draco was still there. Alone this time, as if he was waiting for Daniella to show up, Draco looked at her before glancing back down to his empty plate. She went to grab some of the food she was so desperate for but as she was finally nearing the stands, Draco walked over and stood right next to Daniella and started grabbing the food as well. She knew he already ate, and he knew Daniella knew, yet they both didn't say a word. Daniella thought not talking was much worse than if either of them actually said something. Daniella left to go back to her dorm thinking Draco would leave after her but she was proved wrong when he started walking right next to Daniella, completely missing his turn to get to his dorm hall.

"You realize you just missed your turn for your dorm." Daniella said in a flat tone.

"Yes."

"So what do you want?"

"I just wanted to know what I should call you. I'm not going to call you Daniella, I don't like full names. What about...Ellany?"

"No" Daniella said quickly

"Fine, what about El?"

"No"

"Ella"

"Absolutely not."

"Fine, I guess Ella will work."

"Draco Malfoy, you will not be calling me that."

"Well it's settled then! Ella it is!" Said Draco happily as he began to turn away.

"Draco no."

"Well bye Ella! Have a Happy Christmas!"

And before Daniella could say anything, he was already turned around and walking back to his dorm. She watched him walk away until she couldn't see him anymore. She had no idea why, she just did. Once Draco was out of her sight, Daniella  walked the rest of her way to her dorm, ate her dinner and fell asleep thinking about Draco and how he made her Christmas a very confusing day.
