Peaky Blinders [Finn Shelby]

summary: still being the 'baby' of the family, Finn finds a way to prove himself as a Peaky Blinder

***

Even at age of eighteen, Finn was still the 'baby' of the family, and he hated it. All he wanted to do his whole life was be like his brothers, a Peaky Blinder. At 18, John, Arthur and Tommy were already in the family business.

All he did during the days was train at the boxing ring with Isiah. Recently, the two boys had found themselves at an underground fight club which probably wasn't legal at all, but that didn't stop half the population of Small Heath attending.

Word was that a group of siblings ran the club. Collecting the earning, running the ring, making sure the coppers didn't get a word about it.

"You're going to break your thumb if you punch like that." Y/n commented when she walked into the club. All the rings were set up in the corner were two Peaky Blinders. Y/n had heard of them when she and her brothers arrived in town.

Y/n slid into the ring, coming next to the boy to fix his position. "Place it on the outside." She grabbed his hands with hers and fixed it. "Now try again."

The boy did what she said and threw another punch, one much stronger than he did before.

"Thanks." He muttered. "Finn Shelby."

"Y/n L/n." She smiled. "If you ever need anymore help call me. If you don't need anymore help, you can still call me." She ripped a piece of paper and gave him her number.

"I'll see you Mr. Shelby." She smiled and exited the ring and made her way towards her brothers.

"Finn mate." Isiah shook his shoulder bringing him back to attention. "You alright there."

"A girl gave me her number." He said in astonishment. "A pretty girl gave me her number."

That night, Finn snuck down to the living room of Polly's house and took her phone to call Y/n. It had became daily occurrences. The nightly calls, seeing each other at the boxing rings.

"Where did you learn to fight?" Finn asked one day.

"I have three older brothers, if I didn't learn how to fight back, I would be six feet under." Y/n laughed.

"I have three older brothers too." Finn replied. "But they really don't include in family business, so I never really got to learn that type of stuff."

"Why don't I teach you." Y/n proposed.

"Oh, you don't need to do that." Finn shook his head.

"I want too." Y/n reassured. "And I like hanging out with you."

Keeping to her word, the next day Y/n told Finn to meet her by the cut.

"Finny boy, where are you going?" John asked.

"Out." He said simply and left before more questions could be asked.

"Do you know to shoot a gun?" That was first thing Y/n asked Finn when he met her.

"Yes." Finn answered.

"Great, we're going to do target practice." Y/n smiled, grabbing a gun out of her bag and handing it to Finn and grabbing her own out of her holster. Finn's eyes widened when she took out her safety. He didn't know many women who carried guns on them.

"First, you see that red 'x'." Y/n pointed at it. "I want you to shoot it."

Finn complied. He brought the gun up to line up the target, but before he could pull the trigger, he felt her gun click on his temple.

"Took too long, but now I could have a bullet through your head." Y/n commented. "Try again, faster."

It took him half the time then the first time to fire the gun, hitting the edge of the X.

"Now you need add in the accuracy. You can be as fast you can but you don't get the job done when you shoot the picture and not the person." Y/n said.

For the next couple weeks, the two met up in different places all over town doing something different everyday. Whether it be fighting or shooting a gun. This is what Finn had been longing for. While he thought it was going to be with his brothers, he wasn't complaining. A pretty girl who can hold her own, teaching him what his brothers should, it's perfect.

"I'll meet you here tomorrow evening at 7." Finn told her as they made their way up the steps of her house.

"And where are we going?" Y/n raised an eyebrow.

"I'm taking you on a date." He declared with his new found confidence.

"Alright then, I'll see you 7." She kissed his cheek. "Goodnight Finn Shelby."

"Goodnight." He smiled trying to hide his red cheeks.

"Going somewhere? You're all dressed up." Tommy commented as Finn came down the stairs in a new three piece suit.

"Uh yeah, I am." Finn answered.

"And where-" Tommy started before Finn interrupted.

"I should go, I'm going to be late. Don't wait up." Finn said and rushed out of the house.

"Has anyone else noticed that he's always somewhere?" John asked his brothers, aunt and cousin.

"Yeah, he's keeping something from us." Polly commented taking a drag of her cigarette. "And if you boys started including him in Peaky business, he might be staying around more."

"He's still a baby!" Arthur exclaimed.

"He's 18!" Polly exclaimed. "If I remember correctly, but the time you three boys were all 18, you were already apart of the business."

"Polly's right." Tommy said. "We'll take him out tomorrow."

Sticking to his word, Arthur, Tommy, John and Finn were heading their way out towards the field.

"Now Finn." Tommy started. "When we were your age, we were taken out here to practice shooting targets. Now you should now to operate a gun, all you have to do is shoot the target." The target was a bullseye. Finn took the gun, unloading the safety and firing a shot.

"Holy shit." Arthur commented. The bullet went exactly through the middle of the target.

"Beginners luck." John muttered. There was no way Finn could of learned something like that.

"Well, good job Finn." Tommy praised still slightly shocked. "Let's do another."

For the rest of the time, not once did Finn miss a shot. To get more cheeky, Tommy placed an empty can on top of John's head telling Finn to shoot his off. They all told he would kitchen out at the last moment. And to say they were shocked when Finn pointed his gun towards John and shoot the van off his head, was an understatement.

To celebrate Finn's achievement, the boys made their way down to the Garrison for a drink.

"Now Finn, there was no way that was your first time shooting a gun, so who did you learn it from?" Arthur asked.

"My friend. Girlfriend." Finn corrected himself. "I really don't know what we are at the moment, we've been on a few dates, that's all."

"He can shoot a gun and has a girlfriend, you've been hiding out on us Finny Boy." John laughed.

"And who is this girl?" Tommy asked.

"Y/n L/n." Finn answered. "She and her brothers own that new boxing club in town."

"L/n." Tommy muttered under his breath. "Where do I know that name from?" Tommy looked down at the table, racking his brain trying to figure out where he knew that name from.

"L/n, L/n." He finally got it. "Your dating an Russian assassin."

"What!" Arthur sobered up instantly.

"Your joking, if she's in town, her brothers must be." John said.

"Yeah, they live a few blocks away." Finn answered like it wasn't a big deal. "It's amazing what they do, you know. You tell them the person you want gone and they do it in a heartbeat."

"And what happens when they kill you in a heartbeat. Ever considered that." Tommy asked.

"If I break her heart, she'll kill me herself, that's what she told me on our first date." Finn replied.

"Looks like someone has got their priority straight." John laughed.
