Chapter 41

They all sat around in Jonah's workshop, waiting for him to finish up on the machine, dawn not far off the horizon.

The process of extraction took 30 minutes, and it took 33 before Hattie went viral.

Katrina stood near Hobbs, watching Jonah work in intrigue as Hattie tried to plead with her big brother to consider option one, which he promptly shut down before he and Hobbs both yelled at Jonah to hurry up and he attached the device to Hattie's arm.

"Brace yourself Hats," Deckard said as he took her hands.

"It ain't going to be pleasant," Hobbs added.

"It's gonna be fine. It's -"

She was cut off by a gasp of pain as the gauntlet Jonah had attached to her arm injected needles into it that sucked out the virus capsules.

As Hattie continued grunting, Katrina sighed in relief as the timer began counting down, meaning that the extraction had begun.

The boys cheered, Deckard even hugging Jonah.

Katrina then moved to hug him too, placing a kiss on his cheek.

"Thank you for saving my sister," she said to him and he smiled, nodding in return.

Someone then called out that Eteon was here, that the alarm had been triggered.

Hobbs and his brethren then filed out as the Shaw's turned to one another as they moved out of the warehouse and closer to the front lines.

"Ok, you're mobile," Katrina announced as she and Deckard finished up placed the machine, now a backpack, onto Hattie's back.

"You really think I need to be so close to the front lines?" Hattie asked her brother.

"Yeah, we keep you close. Keep an eye on you in case we need to make a quick getaway," Deckard explained. "Hey this is what we do right?" he asked the girls.

"Yeah," Katrina agreed with a small smile.

"It is what we do," Hattie finished before her eyes became glossy as she said, "Deck. I overheard what Brixton said. That you, you both, stayed away to protect us. I never should've believed all that stuff. I should've known that video was a lie, but I know it now. I don't know why I did. I'm so sorry."

"Don't be. Don't be," Deckard said as he pulled Hattie's head to his shoulder. "Look I've done things. Done things I'm not proud of, things I have to make amends for. All thanks to what that bastard put me through. But right now, the most important thing to me, is getting both my girls home safely," he said as he kissed Hattie's forehead and she chuckled before the fireworks went off.

"Showtime. Stay here, stay hidden," he warned to Hattie who nodded, and he pressed another kiss to her forehead before turning to Katrina, cupping her face in his hands.

"You be careful out there, alright?" he said to her and she nodded.

"You're a good person Decks, no matter what you've done, but break your promise and I will kill you."

He chuckled before kissing her quickly and dashing off to his car and Katrina turned to Hattie.

She gave the blonde one last hug before she ran off to her own car and her sister said pointedly, "Take care of both of you."

Katrina only nodded as they parted ways.
