Chapter 40

They had a plan.

And considering their resources, it was a damn good plan. They could only hope it worked.

The boys were doing the grunt work, one of them fixing up a car for Katrina, who was helping Hattie hack the glove.

And with both of them working together, both their screens were flashing with the notice ACCESS GRANTED in no time, and the two girls high-fived.

"Hats, Kats, please give me some good news," Deckard asked as he came over.

"We're in," Katrina smiled, but then Hattie delivered the bad news.

"The only thing is, we could only block the signal repeaters on the satellite for six minutes."

"Six minutes might be all the time we need," Deckard pointed out. "Better than a sharp stick in the eye."

"Which is basically all we've got to fight them with anyway," Hattie noted.

"Done more with less, haven't we," Katrina nudged her with a grin that Hattie couldn't help but match.

"You, come with me," Deckard said as he held his hand out for Katrina.

She gave him a sceptical look before she took it and turned back to face Hattie who mouthed, "Tell him."

Katrina mouthed back," No," before Deckard had pulled her too far to be able to see her sister.

"Decks where are we going?" She asked as he led her outside, led her to this gorgeous ridgeline that you could see the ocean as the light from the setting sun behind them shone down on it, just high enough above the mountains that it made the water glitter.

"It's gorgeous," Katrina breathed, as she took in the sight.

"Not as gorgeous as you," Deckard complimented and she huffed a laugh as she turned to face him, only to find him down on one knee holding her rings that she'd asked him to keep safe for her.

She laughed, a sound that Deckard could never not smile at as he took her left hand in his.

"Even though, I've already asked you this question, and that we might die tomorrow, Katrina, will you marry me?"

With her new hormones, she couldn't help it as tears lined her eyes as she answered, "Yes, Deckard Shaw, I will marry you."

He grinned as he slipped her rings back on and stood to bring his lips to hers, her arms going around his neck, the sweater she wore soft on his skin.

After they pulled apart, the tears began to flow as he hugged her, hands still gentle as he held her, even though he had no clue about the life she was growing inside her.

"You can't die tomorrow. You can't die ever. You come back to me Deckard Shaw, or I will kill you myself."

Deckard chuckled as he pulled back to face her, to meet her blue eyes as he still held her close.

"If I can't walk back, I'll crawl, because nothing will stop me from coming back to you."

Part of her wanted to tell him now. Wanted to give him even more motivation to come back alive, but she stopped herself.

Her baby was barely a few weeks old if her guess of when they'd conceived was right. She could lose her baby very easily, she was honestly surprised she hadn't already with all she'd done so far in the last few days.

If they lived through this, she'd tell him, but for now, she pulled Deckard back into a hug, lifting her legs to wrap around his waist as she squeezed him tight.

"I'll hold you to that promise. "
