Chapter 37

The boys jumped down from the back of the truck as the girls got out, Hattie holding the machine as Deckard swept Katrina into a hug.

"I'm sorry brother. This thing is really damaged," Hobbs said as he inspected the machine and Katrina and Deckard broke apart.

"Well, there goes option two. That leaves the first one."

"Not happening," Katrina said defiantly.

"Come on. Stop it, Hat."

"I'm tired Deck. I am done running and the last thing I want to do is kill you all, including your -," Hattie began softly.

"We've still got time," Deckard interrupted.

"Time for what? The machine's destroyed!"

"We can fix it," Deckard said.

"How?" Hattie countered.

"We need to find a place to get off the grid," Hobbs informed.

"Where? We're wanted all over the globe and Brixton won't stop. We can't risk millions of people. I told you on the plane, we should've gone with option one. It is done now Deck."

"It's not done. And I'm not killing my sister," Katrina said, eyes threatening to tear up at the topic.

"It's done!" Hattie persisted.

"IT'S NOT DONE! It's not done!" Deckard shouted as he moved to stand right in front of his sister.

"Look at me. Remember that thing you used to say to me when we were kids? Huh? You used to look at me and say, "Deck, it's never over till it's over." We used to laugh. Remember that?" Deckard tried to reason.

"No Deck, it went, "It's never over till I say it's over"," Hattie corrected with a small smile and a tear leaked down Katrina's face as she too smiled at the memory of their childhood.

"Yeah, that was it. So, say it now. Say it. Remember who we are," Deckard said as he turned to Katrina who walked over, and his arm settled around her.

"We're the Shaw family. And we never, never, never give up," Katrina finished for her husband and Hattie fell into his arms as the three of them hugged, like they used to do when they were little. It would always be the two big boys and their girls, their girls who could pack a punch. It was then that all of them really missed Owen, the last piece to their puzzle.

"Look we have a day. More than a day," Deckard said as they pulled away as he brushed the hair from Hattie's face.

"We don't even know where we'd go," Hattie pointed out.

"I know a place," Hobbs piped up and they all turned to him, Katrina back under Deckard's arm, but Hattie's shoulder pressed against him.

"Where?" Deckard asked and Hobbs sighed.

"It's the last place on earth I ever wanna go. Home."
