Chapter 36

"Open your door."

"Why?"

"Just open it!" Katrina screamed at Hobbs and she quickly roped a seatbelt across her waist.

She then spun the truck into a 360-degree turn as it knocked out all of the SUV cars that had tried to block their path to Deckard and Hattie, Hobbs' door flying off as it happened.

Katrina then began driving in reverse so that Hobbs was on the side where he could catch Hattie as she jumped, using the side mirrors to guide herself.

And in those few seconds that she was airborne, Katrina's heart was in her throat, more so when Brixton tried to catch her as he hurtled his enhanced body through the air.

The second Hobbs hand had gripped Hattie's, Katrina spun the wheel, knocking Brixton to the side with the bed of the truck and Hobbs ended up with Hattie straddling his lap, eyes staring into each other.

"Enough with the sex looks already," Katrina interrupted as she grabbed the earpiece from Hobbs and Hattie slid off his lap.

"Brixton's after you. You better not die on me you British bastard," Katrina swore at him through the comms.

"Love you too," he said, and she smiled as handed the earpiece back and focused on the road as she shifted.

"Katrina, whatever you do, don't stop driving straight," Hobbs said.

"Why?"

"Just drive straight."

She complied but a peak in what was left of her side mirror showed Deckard driving a car that was on fire.

"Oh, he's so going to die," she muttered as she sat back in her seat, trying to keep the truck as steady as possible.

Then they felt it jerk with the weight of the car as Deckard successfully landed the car on the bed of the truck.

"Stay here, both of you," Hobbs warned as Hattie strapped herself down and Hobbs climbed through the door behind Hattie onto the bed of the truck where he and Deckard were met with Brixton, Deckard's car long since fallen from the bed of the truck.

"They're both going to die, aren't they?" Hattie asked.

"Possibly. But if they don't, I'm going to kick both their asses because they sure as hell will try and take on Brixton alone rather than work together."

"Are you ok?" Hattie asked her sister who looked at her weirdly.

"I'm not the one fighting a killing machine, I'm fine. Why?"

"Just checking. Also, you might want to drive a bit faster," Hattie said as she peeked out of the door, to watch as the entire research facility began to collapse in a cloud of thick grey dust as the bombs went off.

"Faster Kats!" Hattie yelled as debris began to crash near the truck.

"I'm flooring it! It's a truck Hattie, not a V8."

Both girls let out a scream as the truck jumped, a rather large piece of debris landing on the bed as the truck then began to drag, the back wheels and Brixton long gone.

And Katrina drove and drove until the truck couldn't take it anymore and it died, smoke billowing from the engine.

And then they realised, so did the machine they needed to save Hattie's life.
