Chapter 25

An exit, that had someone waiting for them on the other side.

"Mr and Mrs Shaw," the man in black, with sunglasses, even though it was overcast, said as they walked out.

"Whatever it is, we ain't buying it," Deckard answered for them as they walked, the man keeping up.

"You don't know what I'm selling, or who I am."

"CIA," Katrina answered as they stopped walking, the man surprised.

"How could you-"

"Sunglasses, cloudy day, and sensible shoes," she pointed before Deckard's arm wrapped around her waist and they continued walking, her heels clicking on the asphalt.

"Ok, but these are - I have fallen arches and I don't have a lot of choice in what I- " the man rambled as Deckard gave Katrina the keys as it was her turn to drive and they proceeded to their sides of the car, happy to leave the man behind.

"Anyway, I'm Agent Loeb, and I need to talk to you about our shared interest."

"How'd you find us?" Deckard asked, slamming his door down, and Katrina sighed as she did the same, knowing they wouldn't be leaving anytime soon as she leaned on her side of the car, Deckard moving over to join her.

"I got a tip from an acquaintance of yours, Mr Nobody."

"Mr Nobody," Deckard said as if it should've been obvious to them.

"Freaking Frank and that damn God's Eye. I'll have to fix that," Katrina cursed.

"Here's a little joke for you Loeb. What do, uh, CIA operatives and baseball have in common?"

"People cheer when you hit them with a bat," Loeb answered confidently.

"No. They're two things we don't give a toss about," Katrina corrected before she got in the car, Deckard moving to get to his side when Loeb pressed a photo onto the windscreen.

A photo of Hattie.

"The weapon she's stolen is not like anything we've ever seen. It's a programmable disease that can target any DNA sequence with a 100% mortality rate inside 72 hours. If MI6 finds her, they're gonna treat her like a traitor. But if you help us find her, if you bring us the virus, we'll grant her immunity. We've set up a black site here in London. You've got everything you could need at your disposal, and we're bringing in an asset from the States to assist you."

"We don't need anybody," Deckard protested.

"Maybe not, Mr Shaw. But she does."

Deckard turned to Katrina.

"What do you think?" he asked in a hushed whisper.

"It's Hattie. We can't turn this down. Mum would also have our heads," Katrina replied in an equally hushed tone and they both turned to Agent Loeb.

"We're in."
