The Most Beautiful Jewel

Surveyor x Trickster

It's kinda heated at some point but istg it's not smut

A feeling of satisfaction filled him as he pulled on his silk gloves. He always felt a kind of escalating excitement before one of his heists, the same kind of adrenaline when you get close to the top of a roller coaster just before it falls.

He had to admit, his job may have been ethically questionable, but there had to be a balance between right and wrong in this world, and in this one, he had chosen crime.

A notorious thief whose face, name and voice were unknown to the media and the police, Trickster.

Everyone did not know how the thief accomplished his misdeeds, but the only traces he left were unfortunately only false leads, for which law enforcement agencies kept falling for.

However, the reason Trickster was a master of his craft was that he was not the only mastermind behind the whole operation.

It was someone much more powerful and whom no one would ever suspect, Count D.M.

He was the one who provided the funds as well as the material and Trickster was in charge of going on the field with the help of some people. Well... Due to certain circumstances, it was only him now. Apparently there were some misunderstandings, although he found it hard to believe.

But anyway, to get back to the present, Trickster was still about to commit a theft.

However, it was also the last one.

He had been working for D.M. for a few years already and he paid him graciously as his employer every time so their professional relationship was not the problem but the young man just thought that his time as a thief was coming to an end.

Nevertheless, he received one last request from D.M. regarding a particularly rare jewel that would be on display at an auction that very evening. As a sign of their long friendship, Trickster accepted, and it wasn't just because the bounty this time was so exorbitant that he would be able to live quietly for the rest of his life.

One last hit wouldn't do him any harm anyway.

That was what he firmly believed.

Until he arrived at the auction house and was greeted by a familiar figure he would have preferred never to see again, let alone as a former colleague now working as a security guard for the very place he was about to rob.

Right now, potential buyers were still enjoying the appetizers in the waiting room. Trickster approached one of the waiters to grab a flute of champagne before leaning against a pillar a little further away.

He took a long sip of his drink while counting to ten in his head and...

"Aesop, can we talk for a moment?"

Here he came, just as expected. Trickster lifted his empty glass to look at the few golden drops left in it before giving it to a waiter passing by then turning to the cloaked man beside him. He still had that weird thing hiding his eyes it seemed.

Now... This was the crucial moment. Following technically his reason, he would be expected to refuse his offer and give up on the man permanently. It was the most logical thing to do. Yet, something deep in his heart swayed his judgment and he nodded his head to indicate that he should lead the way to a place out of sight.

The male acknowledged and led him to a more secluded hallway where no one seemed to be crossing. There was a long silence between the two of them for a moment and then the one with the long black coat turned to meet him. Having him standing in front of him seemed to have a completely different effect on Trickster now and he wondered why he had made a decision that went against his so-called morals.

"What do you want, Clark."

The man sketched a bitter smile as he heard Trickster call him by his last name, but he left that aside for the moment.

"You're here for another theft aren't you?"

"If you're aware of it, then it would be a blessing if you could get the fuck out of my way, I have things to do and I hope you won't interfere like last time."

Trickster was about to leave but the other man stopped him by grabbing his wrist, at that very moment Aesop felt like an electric shock passing through his body. He bit his lip. This was not good. Any longer with this man and he had a feeling his resolve would be shattered, that he wouldn't be able to escape, like a caged bird.

"Aesop, about the incident..."

"I don't want to know anything," he tried to push his hand away but the male's grip was stronger than he thought, "I trusted you and..."

"It wasn't me."

"Then who-!?" he said raising his voice, he had no intention of getting angry but confronting him again turned his thoughts upside down.

"Margaretha."

Aesop froze at the name. Zelle? What did she have to do with this? He had heard from D.M. that the young woman had decided to leave them for personal reasons, but now that he thought about it more deeply, he was almost certain that the Count knew about Surveyor's presence here. What the hell was this all about?

"What the-"

"She was the one who leaked the plan to the enemy. She was under my supervision at the time, and when I learned that she had betrayed us and then that you had been put in danger because of her... I felt guilty." He released his hand gently, letting his arm fall back to his side. "I was afraid of your reaction and losing your trust so I decided to leave. I also asked D.M. not to say anything to you."

Aesop was speechless. Everything changed in his mind now that he had just learned the truth, like heavy chains finally breaking. However, as relieved as he was to know that Surveyor was not a traitor after all, a sudden rage bubbled up inside him and before he knew it, his hand rose and came crashing down against the male's cheek, the sound of the slap echoing down the hallway and a red mark now staining the face of the cloaked man.

"You are such an idiot. Why didn't you tell the truth straight out?! I thought we..."

"Sorry."

"Fool."

Clark lowered his head but at the same time Aesop suddenly approached him and abruptly lifted his mask to see a pair of blue eyes he hadn't seen in years. Their gazes met for a second, but before either of them had a chance to say anything, Trickster leaned in a little closer and sealed his lips with a kiss.

Surveyor was surprised by this action to say the least. Nevertheless, it only took him to feel the soft sensation of his lips again for him to quickly put an arm behind the waist of the dark-haired male and a hand behind his neck, Trickster clutching both hands to his back. And so they surrendered to a messy, sensual make-out session, their tongues rolling around each other and occasionally letting out the wet sounds of their saliva and the shuffling of their breaths.

"Eli..." whispered Aesop.

Finally hearing his first name come out of the male's mouth had an immediate effect on Surveyor and he leaned over him a little more for an even more passionate kiss before sliding a hand down to Trickster's tie to undo it, his lips also leaving his to come and lay a hickey on his neck.

Aesop was out of breath and let out a low moan when he suddenly remembered why he was there, his hands coming to rest against the male's chest to push him away.

Understanding what he meant, Eli helped him get his outfit back in order before taking him into his arms.

"Aesop, all this time I never stopped thinking about you. You completely disappeared after the incident and D.M wouldn't tell me where you were so I decided to join this business because I thought maybe I'd get to see you again that way."

Trickster didn't know what to say, he still had a hard time believing that this was all real, that Eli was really there in front of him and that he was currently in his arms.

"Eli-"

"I don't want to be in your way when we finally found each other again but if you don't mind... I'd like to start over from the beginning."

He sounded desperate in the tone of his voice and hence Aesop recognized how sincere he was.

"Very well." he replied.

He pulled away from him after that and tugged lightly on the man's collar to kiss him one last time. The kiss only lasted for a moment but it felt like an eternity for both men. Finally, he released him and put a peck against his cheek as a goodbye before turning back to take care of his theft. Eli watching him leave with a smile plastered on his lips.

Later on, the front page of the newspapers talked about the fact that the biggest diamond of the auction collection had been stolen and that even the security of the place, renowned to be the best of all, had not managed to catch the famous thief once again.
