Symbiosis

Lunar Phase x Hamlet

___

The earth needed water just as the latter would not serve any purpose without its existence. They helped each other grow, protected themselves and were peacefully coexisting. But in this blissful and carefree daily life of the spirits, what the king of the water spirits preferred more than anything else was the comforting presence of the spirit king of the earth. His golden hair reminded him of the sun's rays and his green eyes of the foliage of the trees under which he loved to lie beside him.

The undines and sylphs played and danced to the sound of his harp, the soft breeze also flowing through his fingers and blowing waves on his veil.

Suddenly, the grass began to quiver and swell until it took on the shape of a human before the spirit of the land emerged in all its splendor, like the tree of life which stood at the heart of their world.

"Aesop...!"

The lesser spirits all gathered around the king with enthusiasm at his arrival. He was always a little embarrassed by the attention they gave him, but he also understood their attachment, so he let them sing songs to him and braid his hair with wild flowers.

"A little more and I'll look like a bouquet of flowers..." he mumbled while taking a seat next to him.

"The most beautiful bouquet." was his reply with a smile.

"Eli..."

The water spirit let out a low chuckle as he saw the other's red cheeks. He reached his hand close to his ear and pulled out a sunflower that was a little too large for the flower crown on the blond's head. He brought it to his nose to smell it, a fragrant scent wafting up his nostrils.

"I'm a little jealous."

"What, you want to be covered in flowers too? Or maybe you'd rather I push you into the river?"

Aesop was serious when he said this even though it sounded like a joke at first glance. Nevertheless, it was one more thing Eli liked about him.

"I'm fine, thank you. Seeing you is more than enough for me, but sometimes I want to keep you to myself."

"That would be problematic for the balance between the elements..."

"Just kidding."

Eli laughed again before leaning over to Aesop and placing his lips against his for a chaste kiss. It was like kissing a cotton flower, one of the sweetest sensations.

"You've been in the human world again, haven't you? It's another one of their strange habits I bet."

"Mhm, maybe." The earth king didn't really seem to know the meaning of it, but even so, he felt as if a fire spirit was giving him a surge of heat. "You don't like it?"

"That's not what I meant..."

Aesop turned his head but Eli placed a hand against his cheek so that their eyes met. His face closer than ever again, so near that their breaths mixed.

"In that case... Can I do it again?"

There was a moment of silence before the earth spirit let out a murmur and the two spirits dropped onto the fresh grass, the one clad in white above the other.

Aesop put his arms around Eli's shoulders, following his instincts as the sapphire-eyed one embraced him more passionately, trying to make the moment more intense and languid for the short time it lasted.

"Maybe their customs aren't so bad..."

"I can teach you more if you want."

"Why not."

Aesop grinned at him and this time initiated another kiss to Eli's surprise.

It was another day like any other in the spirit realm, filled with joy and merriment and laughter... And in this world, Eli and Aesop were the perfect symbiosis.
