Fussy Dinner

Modern AU

___

The sound of cutlery touching the plates filled the living room as five people were gathered around a large table, a deathly silence reigning.

"So, how far did you two go?" asked a playful voice.

"Mom!"

A young dark-haired man huffed at the indiscreet question from his mother, his cheeks pink. Another ashen-haired man sat next to him, also visibly embarrassed.

It was a rare occasion when the Clarks had dinner as a family, the event having been planned for the only son to introduce his boyfriend with whom he had been living for a year now.

"Stop bothering him, Yidhra." interjected a middle-aged man with scarlet eyes at the expense of his wife, who launched into a heated debate with the latter.

Things weren't really going the way Eli would have wanted them to as one could see.

His parents were beyond repair no matter what he could do and his sister, Fiona, seemed to be acting as if neither of them existed, playing with the food in front of her eyes as she moved it around with her fork.

"Forgive them Aesop..." he muttered.

"Ah, it's nothing, don't worry." the other replied with a faint smile.

"I told them to behave..."

"It's lively, in a way. I think they're fun."

"If that's how you feel..."

Eli wasn't really sure who was stranger between his family or his boyfriend but if the two of them could get along then there wasn't much he could find to complain about.

At least it didn't scare the gray-eyed one away.
