Deep Slumber

Vampire Eli x Banquet Butler

_____

Everything had to be perfect.

It was the least one could expect from him as the one and only head butler of the house. Between his gloves, the master could rest with a clear mind.

Nothing escaped Aesop Carl's watchful eye, from the thick velvet curtains that had not been ironed to the smallest speck of dust that could be found on the railing of the grand staircase leading to the entrance hall.

Once again today, as he did every morning, the butler checked his appearance in front of the mirror in his room.

His motto was that before he would clean the mansion, it was also crucial that his own attire should be flawless. It was sort of his war armor.

The young man tightened his scarlet bow tie slightly before putting on a proud expression.

Perfect.

Finally equipped, he eventually left his lodgings to serve the needs of the owner of the property, which was his main task.

He walked through the long corridors illuminated by the chandeliers, each one more golden and resplendent than the other.

His gaze shifted for a moment to the window, it was a full moon.

He lingered momentarily on this detail before flinching at his lack of concentration, glancing at his pocket watch to check the time before hurrying off again to his master's room.

Arriving at his destination, Aesop admired the double door made of ebony wood carved to recognize the image of two wings closing.

He then breathed in and knocked.

There was no answer, but that seemed normal, however, for the butler entered without hesitation the next second.

"Good evening, my lord." he said softly.

Still no answer.

But this did not ruffle the young man's feathers as he walked towards the center of the room where the only piece of furniture decorating it was a black coffin with the lid resting on the side.

Aesop bowed to the coffin and just then, a ray of moonlight passed above it, revealing the body of a man lying inside.

The man had hair as white as snow and sumptuous clothes in red and gold tones.

A mask covered his eyes but the position of his arms crossed on his chest was enough to understand that the individual was plunged in a deep sleep.

It was his master... a noble vampire feeding by sinking his sharp fangs into the flesh of his prey.

Just for the record, Aesop was a mere human.

No one knew by what means a human had come to be the butler of an immortal and powerful creature like this one, but that was a mystery best left buried.

Returning to the present, his master was asleep.

It wasn't a simple nap though, the vampire had probably been in this state for almost a decade.

Aesop didn't know why he had suddenly fallen into such a drowsy state, but one thing was certain,

Until he woke up, even if it had to be until his last sigh, Aesop had made up his mind.

He would continue to serve his master as he had always done, he would take care of his body and wait an eternity if necessary.

That was the extent of his loyalty to his master, the vampiric Count Eli Clark.
