Seeds

(The S.H.I.E.L.D. Science and Technology Academy)

Lyra's POV.

[Lyra's Outfit]

After Coulson had assigned Ward, myself, Fitz, Simmons and Skye a mission to go to Fitz and Simmons' previous Academy, The S.H.I.E.L.D. Science and Technology Academy, where a student may have attempted to murder two lther students by freezing the Academy's swimming pool. And right now Ward, myself, Fitz, Simmons and Skye wall up to The Academy as we watch students roam both inside and outside the Academy grounds.

"This was the SSR facility before S.H.I.E.L.D. was even founded. 'SSR' stands for-" Simmons tries to explain to myself and Skye, but Skye cuts her off.

"-Strategic Scientific Reserve. Yeah, I know. Is this where you got all your PHDs?" Skye asks Simmons and Fitz.

"Oh, no, you need at least one to get through the door." Simmons explains.

"Is science and technology what you imagined, Agent Ward?" Fitz asks Ward as Ward went to The S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Operations.

"Yep. No uniforms, no rope course, no defined muscularity on anyone." Ward explains as we only see people in either lab coats or pantsuits.

"No marching in place, no I.Q.'s in double digits." Fitz states as an African-American woman with blacl hair and brown eyes in a pantsuit walks over to us. Agent Anne Weaver.

[Anne Weaver]

"There they are. So good to see you." Weaver shakes both Simmons and Fitz right hand each with her right hand.

"You look as lovely as ever." Simmons complements Weaver.

"I concur." Fitz adds.

"Thank you." Weaver thanks them.

"Agent Ward. Pleasure to have you, sir." Weaver holds her right hand out to Ward for him to shake.

"Agent Weaver." Ward shakes her right hand with his right hand.

"Agent Johnson, I've heard a lot about you." Weaver holds her right hand out towards me to shake, and I shake it with my right hand.

"There's a list of suspects?" I cut straight to the mission.

"Uh, yes. Based on the level of intelligence it would take to put a device together like the one we found, we've narrowed it down to the top 10% of our Cadets. I'm worried there's a bad seed." Weaver explains to us.

"Ops and sciences have differences, but both have to be careful about what we call 'bad seeds', people who want to use the tools we give them for-" Ward tries to explain to Skye, but she cuts him off.

"'Bad seed' isn't a S.H.I.E.L.D. term, Ward, just a term." Skye smiles Ward, making him seem slightly uncomfortable before he turns to Weaver.

"I know you've already questioned the victim, but myself and Agent Johnson have a few questions we'd like to ask him ourselves." Ward refers to the both of us.

"I'll arrange for you both to talk to Seth Dormer when he's out of class. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to get Agents Fitz and Simmons settled into the lecture hall." Weaver explains before she guides Fitz and Simmons into the building as many students approach them on their way.

"Look at them, the popular kids. Who knew?" Skye smiles.

"I did." I admit as I smile whilst thinking what they have both accomplished as partners and that they are now role models to the younger generation.

"Come on. While we have a minute, I think there's something you'll want to see." Ward tells us.

Ward then leads myself and Skye to the main entrance of The Academy, and he leads us up to A Wall of Valor. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Wall of Valor.

"The Wall of Valor." I state.

"So you've read about it?" Ward asks me.

"What is it?" Skye asks us, not knowing.

"Every S.H.I.E.L.D. facility has a memorial to the agents lost in the line of duty. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s history can be traced on walls like this." I explain as I step towards it and read over a few names "Huh, 'James Buchanan Barnes, Bucky Barnes. Steve Rogers first man and best friend until he died in 1942." I explain from my research.

"Puts it in perspective, what we do." Ward states.

"Must make you guys proud, all this history. Just wish I was a part of it. It's not self-pity, really. I'm just saying everyone here has earned this. They deserve it. I hacked my way in... Feels like I cheated." Skye explains.

"All you need to join is a dedication to the greater good. Coulson saw that in you the moment he met you." Ward explains to her as I continue to look at The Wall of Valor, and if Skye wants to become an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., she may always be in danger of joining the people on this wall too early like most of them.

After Weaver sent Seth Dormer to Ward and myself outside of the Auditorium that Fitz and Simmons are giving a speech in to a large sum of students along with Skye, we Begin to question Dormer about whom could potentially see him as a threat.

[Seth Dormer]

"And you can't think of any reason a top student would want to go after you?" I ask Dormer.

"No. Um, the top students are my friends. It's competitive here, but we usually don't resort to knocking each other off. This isn't operations, no offense." Dormer says to Ward.

"None taken. All these names you would consider friendly?" Ward hands Dormer an electronic tablet with the names of suspects that Weaver gave us with his right hand.

"Well... Not Donnie Gill. I barely know the kid. He doesn't talk to anyone." Dormer explains.

"And he was at the pool." I say to him.

"Studying, but I don't think he's the guy. He just has trouble communicating with anyone below a 170 I.Q." Dormer explains to us, but it's possible that his judgement could be wrong.

Suddenly, we hear screaming from the Auditorium so we all run I to the Auditorium to see a student at the bottom of the Auditorium frozen whilst Fitz, Simmons and Skye stand not too far from the student just as confused as everyone else.

[Donnie Gill-Frozen by The Miniature Version of The Atmospheric Moisture Freezing Device]

"Fitz, talk to us." I refer to Ward and myself as we reach them.

"Something's doing this to him. Find it." Fitz tells us, and we begin to search through the rows chairs near us.

"Lyra, there it is." Ward looks to my far left, and I follow his eyeline to see the source and it looks like a techno vile releasing an ice trail across the floor leading to the student.

[The Atmospheric Moisture Freezing Device]

"Fitz, what now?" I ask him as I approach it.

"Smash the damn thing!" Fitz shouts, and I reluctantly shatter the glass on the techno vile with the heel of my shoe.

The student then slowly defrost as The ice breaks away to reveal a Donnie Gill, and he looks around the Auditorium in shock before he begins to loose his balance so Fitz takes his right arm and Simmons takes his left arm before they help him sit on the staircase.

[Donnie Gill]

"It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's over." Fitz assures him before the whole Auditorium begins to give an applause.

After clearing out the Auditorium and brining in some investigators to try and find out whom could have possibly set the techno vile, right now Ward, myself, Fitz, Simmons and Weaver are standing next to Gill as he has a insulating blanket draped over his shoulders and holds a hot mug of coffee in both of his hands and Skye sits on his left.

"And you can't think of anyone here who'd want to hurt you?" Skye asks Gill.

"I don't know anyone." Gill admits.

"Donnie, I'm gonna have you escorted back to your room. You get some rest and stay warm." Weaver explains to Gill, and both Skye and Gill stand up.

"Sorry I ruined your lecture. I was really looking forward to it." Gill apologises.

"It's not your fault, Donnie." Simmons says to him before Gill walks away.

"No genetic materials or prints found on the device. The components are rare and expensive." Fitz explains as he holds an electronic tablet in his hands with the overlook of the techno vile on it.

"Freshman pranks are tradition, but these are something else." Simmons admits.

"Attempted murder." I state.

"So, Donnie was the intended target all along? He have anything in common with the Cadets at the pool?" Ward asks Weaver.

"These kids were popular. Donnie was-" Weaver tries to say, but Skye cuts her off.

"-Not." Skye states.

"Donnie hadn't made any enemies here, but he hadn't made any friends, either." Weaver admits.

"He had a hard time adjusting? How old is he?" Simmons asks her.

"18, youngest since you guys. 190 I.Q. and failing out of high school when we met him." Weaver explains.

"Probably bored out of his mind." Fitz states.

"Mhm." Simmons hums in agreement.

"If things went well, we were considering graduating him early and assigning him to the Sandbox." Weaver explains.

"Wow. Well, he would love it there." Simmons says.

"But he doesn't like it here, so I'm afraid he'll wash out." Weaver states.

"Maybe that was the idea. Agent Weaver, keep working with investigations, interviewing Cadets, instructors." I tell her.

"Of course." Weaver says to me before walking away.

"And us?" Skye asks me.

"Their interviews won't bear fruit. We teach Cadets to keep secrets. Where did you guys hang out when you wanted to get away from the faculty?" I ask Fitz and Simmons.

"Can we tell someone from operations?" Simmons asks me.

"Yes, because we need to conduct our own investigation." I tell her as we leave the Auditorium to go outside.

"And when we get there?" Simmons asks me as we walk outside.

"We mingle, low key. You and Skye get comfortable with the students, see if you can get them gossiping. Skye looks young enough to blend in." Ward explains.

"You're not exactly old man river, and Fitz looks younger than us. And Lyra can practically get any man she wants with her skills that she wont teach me. She once turned my gay best freind from high school into my female best friends' boyfriend." Skye explains.

"Time will come when you won't make fun of me for that. You'll be jealous. You'll be jealous, wrinkly old hags." Fitz tells us as he retorts to what Skye had states about him.

"I want Fitz to go talk to Donnie." Ward states.

"Sorry?" Fitz asks him, as if he had misheard.

"Donnie's withdrawn, might know more than he's letting on. You're a hero here, Fitz. He looks up to you. Go hang out with him. Even if he has no clue who might be after him, he could use a friend." Ward explains to him.

"That is a wonderful idea." Simmons smiles.

"Ward has them from time to time. I'll meet you later." Fitz tells us before he goes into a seperate direction from where Simmons is leading us, and Simmons and Skye both look to Ward and smile.

"What? It's strategic." Ward states.

"It's adorable." Simmons corrects.

"The Tin Man has a heart after all." I also smile up at Ward as I pat his chest twice where his heart is with my right hand.

"So, where are we going?" Ward walks past us, making Skye and Simmons giggle lightly before following him.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. keeps careful watch of everything within their walls, so in the late '60s, to escape the cameras and the prying eyes of the faculty, a few Cadets started sneaking down to the boiler room to play cards, you know, exchange ideas." Simmons leads us into a different building and to the basements at the back of The Academy.

"My kind of people." Skye states.

"Some amazing breakthroughs have come out of here. So the tradition lives on." Simmons explains.

"Of cramming into the boiler room?" Skye asks her, but Simmons leads us into what could be an underground bar.

"Well, over the years, we made a few improvements. Do you have one of these at operations?" Simmons asks Ward.

"No." Ward shakes his head with a atraight face as he looks around.

"Did not think so." Simmons states.

"Drinks are on me." I tell them before I head to the bar.

After ordering four beers, Simmons and Skye take two before they enter the room further and both Ward and myself sit at the bar with a beer each in our right hands, and Ward sits on my left.

"I thought you didn't drink on the job?" Ward asks me.

"I won't tell if you don't." I say to him before it's me a small sip of the beer.

I then look over my left shoulder to see Callie Hanagan, a student whom was involved in the swimming pool incident, playing Pool alone on the other side of the room.

[Callie Hanagan]

"You're up." I hand Ward my beer, and he takes it with his left hand.

"I'm up." Ward sighs before he takes a small sip of my beer before he stands up and Walks away.

After Hanagan admited to Ward that Gill and Dormer had been talking about Fitz coming to The Academy for weeks, we found put that our whole mission was a set up as the mission for us to come to The Academy was only given to us today. Meaning Gull Dormer have been staging these attacks to lure Fitz back to the Academy, and right now Ward, myself, Simmons and Skye sit at a table, Ward on my left and Skye opposite me with Simmons on her right as Simmons calls Fitz with her cellphone in her right hand to her right ear.

"Fitz, they staged the attacks..." Simmons tells Fitz over the cellphone "... To lure us to the Academy and to take them off our radar as suspects. You need to get out of there. He's after you... We're on our way." She tells him before hanging up the cellphone "They needed Fitz so they could make the Freezing weapon more powerful so it doesn't burn out and overwork itself so it breaks. Fitz is heading back to Donnie's dorm room now." She explains to us.

"Let's go." I tell them before we all stand up.

After Ward, myself, Simmons and Skye arrived at Gill's dorm room, only to find Fitz unconcious and alone, whom we managed to wake up, and he explained to us that Gill and Dormer had managed to get away with the freezing weapon, which we now know absorbs absorbs moisture from the atmosphere it is in and freezes the molecules. After informing Coulson and May in on our situation Fitz, Simmons and Skye have went to meet May as she lands The B.U.S. whilst Ward and myself stand with Weaver, whom we have informed the situation to, in The Boiler room with the other students as a storm rages outside due to Gill and Dormer's machine and the Academy seems to be the eye of the storm.

"Ward, Lyra, how are things on the ground?" Coulson asks us over coms.

"We've got almost everyone safe in the boiler room." I inform him as the lights flicker and the building shakes lightly.

"Everybody, move back! Make some space!" Weaver tells her students and lecturers.

"How bad is this gonna get?" Ward asks Coulson.

"Bad. Can you reach the North campus parking garage? We think Donnie Gill and his device may be trapped in the center of the storm." Coulson explains to us.

"That's not far from where we are. We can get there." Ward explains as we head to the emergency exit, but once Ward opens the door with his right there is no chance we can step outside without being flew up into the tornado of ice and snow.

"Yeah, we can't get there." I tell Coulson as Ward closes the door.

After May managed to fly The B.U.S. into the eye of the storm and pick up Gill and Dormer whom had shut down the freezing weapon and the storm, Dormer had went into cardiac arrest from when the freezing weapon malfunctioned and exploded, and another young life was taken. Afterwards, Ward and myself went back to The B.U.S. to see that Gill is now being sent to The Sandbox, but not to be a researcher but so they can keep an eye on him from now on. And right now I head to my bunk to prepare for my assignment from the Director, which is in less than a week, but when I arrive to my by k Skye is already there sitting on my bed.

"What are you doing?" I ask her confused.

"Coulson and May's seperate assignment today, wasn't an assignment." Skye states as she stands up.

"So then what they did today, had nothing to do with us.

"But it had everything to do with us, the assignment was about us. About where we came from." Skye explains to me.

"... I don't want to know Skye. I'm tired, you should go." I tell her.

"But its bigger then what we thought, what we could every dream of. Coulson found an ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in New Mexico who said we were a mission, an 0-8-4 from twenty-four years ago and an entire village had been killed protecting us, and he was the only person to survive the whole thing, and that's why he was on the down low. The ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agents' partner Linder Avery died for us, but just before she had erased any file of us ever being alive and put us in foster care, making sure we were always being moved so no one could find us." Skye smiles as she explains to me.

"... Are you finished?" I sigh at her, and she looks at me incredulously.

"How are you so calm about this?" Skye asks me confused.

"Because I don't care." I state, and she looks at me in utter confusement "I've been telling you your whole life that it doesn't matter where we came from but who we've become because of it." I explain to her, I have to protect her "What you learned today doesn't change anything, you are still you and I am still me. You are still just an ex-con who can hack her way into anything, that's how you got here. And I am an ex-cop who sacrificed my future of having a successful career as head of my own precinct so you could find out that we're still orphans, that we don't have any one but each other and that we will always be alone." I explain to her harshly.

"... I never asked you to do any of that for me." Skye shakes her head at me as tears fill her eyes.

"I did it because no one else would have." I state, and she momentarily looks at me with hurt in her eyes before she walks away.

Once she completely leaves, I latch my right hand onto my bunk door and inhale feet, wanting to regret what I just said to her. I then exhale before regaining my posture, and feeling someone watching me I look up to my left to see Coulson outside of his office looking directly at me before walking into his office. I then walk up to Coulson's office and walk inside to see him looking directly at me as he rests his back again t the front of his desk, and I close the office door behind me.

"You already new everything, didn't you?" Coulson asks me.

"... And more." I state.

"There's more?" Coulson asks me confused.

"... In the first five years of a child's life, that is when you learn the most and have more chance of remembering. I remember everything... Everything long before S.H.I.E.LD. had even came to help." I explains to him.

"There were a few things our source couldn't explain, for example the severe wounds you had around your neck and shoulders." Coulson explains to me.

"... Monsters are real, sir." I state.

"I've met a few." Coulson admits.

"They weren't human, they weren't alien. They were just and only monsters. I ask for one thing, sir." I say to him.

"That is?" Coulson asks me.

"... Don't dig deeper, because like Lumley told you, 'Death follows wherever we go'. Even if Skye hates me for what I just told her, at least I know she's safe. I am the only one who can keep her safe. The day we were dropped off at the orphanage, I made a vow that I would protect her from every and all danger. She is the only thing that matters to me, and all I have left." I explain to him.

"I understand..." Coulson tells me "... But do you understand that I will do anything to protect my team, too. That includes you and your sister." he explains to me.

"I understand, sir." I say to him "You should know something else... Ward and myself are having sex." I admit.

"Will it interfere with missions?" Coulson asks me.

"No." I confirm.

"Okay. Your dismissed." Coulson tells me, and I nod hesitantly before I leave. I then head back to my Bunk and head inside, sensing Ward behind me as he closes the door.

"That sounded... Intense." Ward comments.

"Clearly you don't know the meaning." I say to him before I turn around to look at him, and I place my hands on the back of his neck before I kiss him, and he automatically kisses back. Ward than places his hands on my upper thighs and lifts me up so I wrap my legs around his torso before he lowers me onto my bed.
