PUBLIC DEBATE - PART 1:

NANA: "As the Student Council President, I Nana Nakagawa..."

AKI: "Morning everyone. It's finally the day of the public debate, Nana. Did you sleep well last night?"

NANA: "Good morning. I'm actually rather nervous. I don't even get this nervous when I perform on stage as a school idol."

KANATA: "More importantly, what exactly is a public debate?! I'm surprised at all the things that are involved in this process!"

SHIZUKU: "It must be terrifying to participate in an event where you're clearly having judgement passed on you."

EMMA: "And we have to watch it through the school broadcasting system, right? I hate that we can only watch you when we really want to cheer for you in person."

AKI: "I agree. That's why we should all gather in the cafeteria at lunch to watch it together."

AYUMU: "All right, let's do that."

AKI: "We'll all be cheering you on together, okay? You're not alone. Don't forget that we're all here for you."

NANA: "I won't!"

AKI: "We've practiced your speech for a while now. It's sure to rock Shioriko's campaign!"

NANA: "Thank you so much for your help so far. I'll do my best!"

KASUMI: "Maybe we should create an altar out of novels and DVDs to pray for certain victory, Setsu- I mean, Nana."

NANA: "An a-altar? That does sound interesting... I mean, no! I don't need anything like that!"

KASUMI: "Now, now, no need to be shy!"

RINA: "I'll take a photo of the altar for you. Rina-chan Board says 'Tense'."

NANA: "I told you, I don't need an altar!"

AI: "No need to worry! We'll decorate it real nice and cute for you!"

NANA: "I said, that's not what I mean. I don't need an altar! Geez, why do I have to deal with this when the debate starts in an hour?!"

KARIN: *Chuckle* Looks like that loosened up your shoulders. Now you won't head into the debate with stiff nerves."

NANA: "Huh? Oh, yes, maybe you are right about that. I'm breathing much easier now!"

AKI: "The altar won't be necessary. Here, Nana, keep this in your pocket."

NANA: "Huh, a daruma doll?"

AKI: "My mom gave me it a long time ago. I figure that it could bring you luck."

NANA: "Chief... Thank you!"

AKI: "Now, go out there and break a leg, Nana! We'll all be watching you!"

...

SHIORIKO: "I am delighted to finally have this outlet to express my views to all of the students at our school. Let us both do our very best."

NANA: "Y-Yes. Here's to a clean and fair debate!" (Mifune sure does appear to be full of confidence. I must hold my own as well! Everyone's watching me... Everyone's depending on me...)

...

KASUMI: "Look, it's on!"

AKI: "Come on, Nana. You can do this!"

HOST: "We will now begin the broadcast of the debate between the candidates for the Nijigasaki High School student council presidency. Good luck to our two candidates."

NANA: "Th-Thank you very much."

SHIORIKO: "Thank you."

KANATA: "Doesn't she look a little nervous?"

KARIN: "A little...?"

AYUMU: "I really hope she's okay."

AKI: "She'll be fine, I've listened to her practice her speech. I know that she can deliver it."

HOST: "Let us open with Shioriko Mifune and your message to all of the students."

SHIORIKO: "Hello to all students of Nijigasaki High School. My name is Shioriko Mifune, and I am a first-year student running as a candidate for the new Student Council presidency.'"

AKI: "A ludicrous statement already."

KARIN: "Boss, can you just stop with the negativity?"

AYUMU: "Yeah, Aki, we're here to cheer for Nana. Not to ridicule Mifune."

AKI: "I'm sorry... It's just that high and mighty attitude of hers just really rubs me the wrong way."

SHIORIKO: "The only reason I have specifically chosen to run for Student Council President at this time is simply that I wish to make Nijigasaki High School a better place."

AKI: "...For myself."

AYUMU: "AKI!"

AKI: "S-Sorry..."

SHIORIKO: "This school is very much a great place at the moment. However, it can be improved. I want to make it a place where students build confidence and experience through success.
Everybody has hidden potential within them. I would like you to use your three years here to draw out and foster your potential as much as possible.
All students find joy and gain confidence in achieving good results. Being praised by others builds pride and acts to cultivate growth."

Ugh... All she wants to do is destroy what makes Nijigasaki unique.

This school specializes in classes catering towards what a student wants to become. Through these classes, students can forge their own path to their desired career.

Not discovering what they want to become through a community-like ideology. There is no room for uniqueness, everyone becomes the status-quo.

Turning Nijigasaki into nothing different from other institutions.

SHIORIKO: "Student life is not all about fun. It is a period of preparation for the future. You may be unaware of skills unique to you. Let us reflect on and build these skills together.
While you may not agree at the beginning, I am sure you will be able to push forward with hope once you see the light."

Light?! Is she saying that she's the light? That her truth is the only truth? Don't make me laugh...

While skills make someone unique, it takes away their freedom. The ability to choose who you want to be, not what some agenda wants to assign you to become.

SHIORIKO: "If I am elected as Student Council President, I will help all of you create bright, shining futures. This is my promise to everyone!"

I don't see any light in that future. All I see is monotonous grayscale, where students can't follow their dreams. Where they are only limited to the skills they possess.
If school idols were school idols only because they only had skills as school idols... Then every single one of them would be the same, with no room for uniqueness.

HOST: "Thank you very much. Next up, Nana Nakagawa. Please, if you will."

NANA: "R-Right!"

Don't stutter... that's a sign of weakness. Nobody likes a weak leader.

NANA: (What do I do? What do I want to do for the school? It's all a blur for me... I need to remember. Mifune is amazing. I'm...)

HOST: "Nana? Is something the matter?"

AKI: "No..."

AYUMU: "Oh, no."

AI: "Come on Nana, we're behind you!"

SHIZUKU: "Remember, it's just a screen."

KASUMI: "We know that, Shizuko. But we're still going to cheer for her."

RINA: "Rina-chan Board says 'Fight, Nana'."

KARIN: "Come on, where's that competitive spirit?"

KANATA: "I won't sleep until you deliver that speech!"

EMMA: "Everyone's here, Nana. You have our support!"

AKI: "Remember the speech... Remember the speech..."

NANA: "No, sorry. I'm okay. Hello, everyone. I'm Nana Nakagawa. I am the current Student Council President, and I wish to continue my tenure."

Yes! She's got it!

NANA: "I have worked together with the Student Council for the sake of the school ever sinc ebeing elected as president following my vote of confidence last year.
My vision for Nijigasaki High School is..."

Tell them. Let them all know.

NANA: "A school that students want to attend. A place they want to spend three years at.
A school where we can pursue our passions and write our own stories. High School only lasts for three short years of our lives, but I think some things can only be done in these three years.
I want all students to pursue what they love. I will do everything in my power to support everyone in their endeavors to focus on the things they love. I want them to spend three years in a place where their passions aren't interfered with!"

AKI: "YES! THAT'S OUR GIRL!"

AYUMU: "That was such a convincing speech!"

AI: "Yahoo! I guess I'm speech-less after that speech!"

KASUMI: "Puns, even now?"

SHIZUKU: "I could feel the passionate emotion in every word."

RINA: "Rina-chan Board says, 'Woo-hoo!'"

KANATA: "Yay Nana....zzz...."

EMMA: "Kanata? Oh, I guess it's okay, she stayed awake through Nana's amazing speech."

KARIN: "Did you have a part in this?"

AKI: "Maybe I did?"

KARIN: "That doesn't answer my question, like seriously. Did you write that?"

AKI: "Nana wrote the base of what she wanted to say. I only helped to structure it and how certain terms like WE and OUR can really get a crowd behind you."

KASUMI: "I hate to be a downer here, but the debate is next."

AKI: "Oh, right. Everyone listen up!"
