{44} Queen of Qing que

"Xiao Jiu!" Bai Qian called. Feng Jiu was in her yard seemingly lost in thought. Her aunt's voice stirred her heart. It was her empress ceremony today but she couldn't calm down one bit. Will Dong Hua return to the Qingque when the festival starts? Would Di Jun come back soon? Her aunt stepped into the fox cave. Feng Jiu didn't have the heart to look at her. Bai Qian appeared before her nonetheless. She raised her head silently and hugged her aunt, silently sobbing in her embrace.

"What is up with you Feng Jiu?" Bai Qian asked with a frown. She deeply cared for her niece and knew how immature she was. Like she was once. But she was also the one who believed in her the most.

"Gugu, do you know when Di Jun will come back?" She asked with a whisper-soft voice.

"What do you mean Xiao Jiu. You told me you gave up on him, didn't you? Are you crying for him again?"

"No Gugu Di Jun.., he loves me too. I was in the mortal realm with Yan and Lei and there was Di Jun too." she blushed despite her tears. Countless memories swelling her heart.

"Huh? So where is he now? Did he hurt you? Don't worry I can turn his Tai Chen palace upside down if that's the case." Anger flashed through her face and Bai Qian supported her up. Feng Jiu wiped her tears.

"No...He is still in the mortal realm. But I'm afraid he's in danger...what do I do aunt? I can't even go back. There is a restriction..." more tears made their way down her cheeks.

"A restriction? I'll check it out with Ye Hua. Xiao Jiu today is your empress ceremony. I'm sure he wants you to give your best and so do your subjects. You can't abandon them, can you? If you wanna go find him I'll go with you after this. I know you love him. But there is nothing you can do right now. I'll try with Ye Hua okay?"

"Aunt you have to..." She wiped her tears and looked at Bai Qian with resolve and determination. Bai Qian gave her a wry smile and wiped her cheeks.

---

The empress ceremony was almost completed. Feng Jiu was focused and solemn. It was a first. She strengthened her heart and completed the test left by her ancestors to inherit the title of empress. The crowd cheered. Most liked Feng jiu but today she was extra savage. In her mind, she wanted nothing more than to complete the ceremony and going to Dong Hua. But she knew it would disappoint him and her family and also her subjects.

Even her father was surprised at Feng Jiu's behavior. He had heard of her moping but didn't know the reason. He was also very worried that her spoiled daughter wouldn't participate wholeheartedly in the ceremony. But even though he was wrong he still felt a little sad. After all, he knew how cheerful Feng Jiu was. Anyone who knew Feng Jiu never saw her so solemn before. Her father might be strict but he loved her daughter more than anyone. He even thought of going to Dong Hua and asking him to marry her. He didn't know they already fell in love. He believed his daughter still yearned for that unapproachable god. But her behavior today assured him that her daughter was much more strong than she let on. His heart softened on the thought.

Feng jiu was crowned and the ceremony concluded. Everyone started dispersing. Ye Hua and Bai Qian looked at each other and then back to Feng Jiu. Feng Jiu was frowning at their weird behavior.

"Feng jiu..." Bai Qian started.

"It's okay, aunt. I'll just wait for Di Jun to come. If he doesn't, I'll try to break the barrier until it will break. Even if it takes days." She said and turned into fox form and ran away.

"Ye Hua... I'm worried about her." Bai Qian sighed as her husband wrapped his hands around her waist and pulled her close.

"Qian Qian don't be overly worried. She has her own feelings and life, we shouldn't interfere much. If she truly loves Di Jun maybe she'll eventually reach him. Plus I don't think either of them lacks fortune or luck or even stubbornness."

Feng Jiu ran and ran until she reached deep into the forest. Her heart ached unexplainably. Why do I feel this way? Why am I so sad. My heart hurts so much.

Tears rolled down her cheeks. She was helpless.

There were a lot of ways to go to the mortal realm but all of them were blocked by an ancient formation. It was the same which had been guarding the cave. Though it was much weaker since eons had passed since ancient times. That's why Dong Hua had been able to pierce a gap through it.

Feng jiu stabbed her spirit sword endlessly into the formation. Most of the people in the heavenly realm didn't visit the mortal world. Only a few trouble makers or curious youngsters did. Dong Hua had only gone because of Feng Jiu. Fang Lei too. While Yan Chiwu had gone to look for Ji heng.
The mortal realm didn't have much spirit energy so it would naturally be a waste to go there. So hardly a few people noticed the restriction. Moreover, it looked temporary. But Feng Jiu couldn't shake the feeling that Dong Hua might be in trouble.

She did her best all to no avail. Her cultivation was good but compared to Dong Hua it was not worth mentioning at all.

She felt utterly frustrated when her efforts went to waste. There wasn't even a ripple in the formation. How laughable! She thought.

A figure in a green robe stood above watching her with arms crossed. It was dressed in mens attire but the features were somewhat feminine.

Feng Jiu's tails popped out and she gazed at her spirit sword. Resolve filled her eyes.

"Gugu said the tail of a nine-tailed fox isn't ordinary," she murmured.

"Oh, what is she doing?" The figure in the green robe mused.

Feng Jiu looked calmer. She sprang her spirit sword into action and cut one of her own tail. She bit her lip so hard that it bled only to control her shriek. In the past, she would even cry for a cut on her finger but now she didn't hesitate for a minute. Pain filled her body and her breaths grew heavier. The tail turned into a magnificent dagger that seemed to contain the power of breaking through everything.

She attacked the formation again. This time there were some ripples.

"So my necklace has chosen her as a master. Alas, she is young but I can't say she won't have great achievements. Dong Hua is the unifier of the three realms of this heavenly plane, and this little queen of Qin Que isn't his match in cultivation but in temperament, she's equally stubborn. I don't know if it is because both my medallion and jade necklace have chosen them but I quite like these two. I guess they deserved the little change in fate that I made. The unicorn realm is above all heavenly planes and can give its blessing to people of other realms. But all of those old farts don't usually do something like this and these cultivators aren't all that kind and pure like us but exceptions do exist everywhere. Now that I've done so, their paths will be their own to carve out. It may be a fortune or a disaster depending on them." She sighed. "I guess I can leave this realm soon. If not for the favor I owed to the third master of the ancient jade sect... I guess I can pass on his legacy and finally be free."

The figure descended and made his presence known. Feng Jiu stared at the person in front of her. Just as she was about to say anything her jade necklace began to emit sounds of happiness. She was dumbfounded. Did the necklace had its own consciousness? It looked like it was over the moon.

"Who might you be senior?" she asked. "Are you the master of this necklace?"

The senior gazed at the necklace and then back at Feng Jiu. Her eyes were deep like the universe containing stars and countless realms. It seemed like one could lose themselves for an eternity.

"I was. Now it's yours. There is a legacy hidden inside the core of the jade. It's the legacy of the ancient jade sect. Since you are the master only you have the right to take it. However, it also depends on if you are truly capable. It wouldn't be a surprise if you died in the process. However, I'm sure it can help you pass this formation." The figure said with a look of indifference.

"Senior..." Feng Jiu was flabbergasted. Some hope returned to her.

"You don't need to know me. I'm not of this realm. My purpose is complete so I'll take my leave," he said.

"Senior wait...are you a girl...you're a girl right?" Feng jiu hesitated but asked anyway.

"Oh, why do you say that?" he asked amusement flashing through his eyes.

"I can tell. My aunt used to dress up as a man too." Feng Jiu smiled. But a pained expression followed. The figure sighed softly. It changed its appearance. This time it was a beautiful and elegant lady who came into sight. She smiled back at Feng Jiu shedding her indifferent attitude.

"Be aware of the guest in the back. He's not without malicious intent," she said in a mellow voice. A noble and respectable aura surrounded her. Calling her a celestial being wouldn't be an exaggeration. Against her beauty, even Xiao Jiu felt somewhat lacking.

After saying her piece she vanished into the sky as a rainbow streak. Feng Jiu still couldn't somewhat recover. She remembered the woman's words and looked behind her to find Mo Fan.

"Mo Fan?" she asked surprised.

"Just go to hell Bai Feng Jiu." he attacked Feng Jiu. Feng Jiu understood and quickly threw her dagger towards Mo Fan. He was surprised. He was sure he caught her by surprise. He didn't even get time to poison her. In the next second, the dagger pierced his heart. He turned back into a snake as his soul left his body.

Feng Jiu was shaken up. Regardless she didn't tarry and sat cross-legged. She applied some methods to soothe her pain of losing a tail but she still felt pain. She quickly looked onto the jade. As she pressed the Unicorn mark on it she was teleported into an illusionary world. Actually, it wasn't her but her consciousness that had traveled back to ancient times. She saw war and peace and war and peace. It all passed by in seconds then what remained was nothing but void. This was a test.

If she passed it she would get the legacy that could let her through the restriction. If she could reunite with Dong Hua perhaps it would be worth it.
