Dear diary

Today I passed by Chaehyun's store again. The way her face lit up when she saw me coming, the way she waved for me to come closer. It always made my heart skip a beat and always managed to bring a smile to my face.

Chaehyun: You are here again today! Actually... I have been waiting for you to come.

Chaehyun looked down shyly. Her face was beginning to become flustered red. I couldn't believe my own ears. She had been waiting for me?

Jahoon: I have to admit that... I always look forward to seeing you too.

Chaehyun: Really?

Chaehyun said enthusiastically before being embarrassed by her sudden outburst. I looked down shyly and scratched my not-so-itchy neck.

Chaehyun: Wait... what happened to your face?

Chaehyun moved closer to me and cupped my cheeks softly. She brushed her thumb over my lip, making me hiss a bit in pain.

Chaehyun: I'm sorry! Come here. I will put on some ointment.

Chaehyun dragged me to a bench inside of the store and made me wait there. She then walked to the back of the store to grab a first aid kit before sitting right beside me and beginning to attend my wound.

Chaehyun: It's going to hurt a bit.

Jahoon: Don't worry. I have tried something that hurts much more than this. This is nothing- Ouch!

Chaehyun: You sure it is nothing? By the way, who did this to you? Don't tell me that you went over to Minwoo yesterday?

Jahoon: Well....

Chaehyun: Jahoon! You promised me that you won't be doing anything towards him!

Jahoon: I know but I really couldn't stop myself. I don't know why but I felt very angry when you told me that he harassed you and at first I didn't want to do anything but when I saw his face in the shop, I couldn't help myself.

Chaehyun was done with the wound. She put the stuff back in the first aid kit. She sighed and held my hand.

Chaehyun: I know that you are angry about this but I didn't want you to do anything because I was worried about you.

I cupped Chaehyun's cheek with my free hand and pressed a light kiss on her forehead. I pulled away but kept our foreheads connected together and stared into her eyes.

Jahoon: I know but I have promised myself now that I will be protecting you no matter what.

???: Hey Jackson! How are you doing man?!

I quickly turned around to see two of my fellow soldiers on the other side of the streets. Luckily they hadn't seen me yet. I turned back and acted like I was looking at the clock in Chaehyun's store while acting surprised.

Jahoon: I have to go now. My little sister is finishing school soon and I promised my mom that I will come and get her today.

Chaehyun: It's fine. Family comes first but I hope to see you again?

Jahoon: You will. I promise.

I leaned in and pressed a kiss onto her lips. I could feel the shock run through me but I was happy that I could finally kiss her. I knew Chaehyun felt the same as I could feel her smile through the kiss. I pulled away although I wanted it to last for longer and finished up my routine walk.

Date: 10/10/1935

Dear diary

Today was a bad day. Today the Japanese decided to invade the city. They haven't even cared about the citizens. As a colonel, I had to be on the front line. I had to watch people die and people get hurt even though it wasn't any of their faults.

Heejin: Colonel Park! The Japanese soldiers are beginning to storm from the right side of the city!

Jahoon: Gather two teams and come with me to the right front! We will take care of them!

Heejin: Yes Colonel Park!

Heejin quickly came back with two teams after that and together we made our way to the right front, where a lot of Japanese soldiers were fighting with our soldiers and some hurting the innocent citizens.

Jahoon: Attack them!

The soldiers ran forward and began fighting the Japanese soldiers. I fought some down myself until I heard a familiar voice.

Chaehyun: Someone please help me!

It was Chaehyun! She is in danger!

Jahoon: Heejin! You have to command over here until I'm back!

Heejin: Yes colonel Park!

I ran in the direction of her voice and found her corned by two Japanese soldiers inside of an alley.

Jahoon: Leave her alone!

I took out my handgun and began shooting at them, making sure that I didn't hit Chaehyun. When I was sure that they were down I quickly ran over to Chaehyun, who was now sitting on the floor with her ears covered. I reached out and touched her gently. She flinched at my touch but calmed down when she noticed it was me. She sprang to hug me tightly, in which I returned. After a few minutes, she pulled a bit away.

Chaehyun: Jahoon! It is you! But why are you wearing a soldier's uniform?

Jahoon: I will explain later. For now, let's get you back home to safety. Is your mom home?

Chaehyun: Yeah, she is but I don't know how safe it would be.

Jahoon: Then wait here for me for a moment. I will be back soon. Take this gun and just shoot whenever there is someone trying to hurt you and if it doesn't help then shout loudly then I would come and save you.

Chaehyun nodded. I pressed a kiss onto her forehead and ran back to Heejin who had managed to lower the number of Japanese soldiers.

Jahoon: Heejin please cover for me. I have something really important to do. If the general of the army is asking where I am then please cover for me. I will explain to you and the team later.

Heejin: I trust you Jahoon. Don't worry. I will cover for you. Go after your girl. I will come and get you when it's over.

I looked at her in surprise by the fact that she knew. She just smiled at me before waving me away. I gave her a grateful smile before running back to Chaehyun who was still waiting for me.

Jahoon: Come on. Let's get you home.

I helped Chaehyun on her feet and took the gun from her. I then wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her close to me to make sure that she was safe. We then made our way back to her home and inside where her mother was sitting on her bed, trying to get up.

Chaehyun: Mom!

Chaehyun's mom: Chaehyun! You are safe! I was so worried that the soldiers have hurt you is anything! And why is there a soldier in our house? Get out! I won't dare to hurt you!

Chaehyun: Mom! It is fine! This is Jahoon! The one that I have told you about!

Mom: But why is she wearing a soldier's uniform?

Chaehyun: That is also what I wanted to ask about.

Both Chaehyun and her mom looked at me. I scratched my neck and told them everything. From the day I got to know that I needed to join the military to now.

Jahoon: I don't want anyone to get hurt. I want to protect people. I want to protect you.

I looked at Chaehyun with the most sincere eyes I could. Her mom kept quiet for a while.

Chaehyun's mom: Alright. I trust you. You look like you are really sincere about my daughter, so I will let you see her. But don't you dare hurry her in any way.

Jahoon: Thank you! Thank you very much! And don't worry, I will treat her the best as possible! I will treat her like a princess! Thank you very much!

I bowed a few times while smiling widely. I looked at Chaehyun who was blushing but gave me a wide smile. Suddenly someone knocked on the door, making us all alerted. I gestured for them to stay quiet and tiptoed my way to the door. I glanced slightly out to see Heejin standing in front of the door. I opened the door for her to enter.

Heejin: Everything is back to normal now. We can get back to the headquarters.

Jahoon: Alright. Wait for me for a moment.

I walked back to Chaehyun and her mom who was looking scared.

Jahoon: Don't worry. It is just one of my friends. Everything is back to normal now and the Japanese soldiers are gone, so we can go back to normal. I have to leave now as I have to go back to the headquarters.

Chaehyun's mom: It is fine. You have to do your work after all. Chaehyun, go and see your girlfriend out.

Chaehyun: Yes mom.

Chaehyun and I walked out to Heejin who was waiting in the living room. I grabbed Chaehyun's have and looked her in the eyes.

Chaehyun: Thank you again for saving me today Jahoon.

Jahoon: It is fine. As I have told you, it is my duty to protect you.

Chaehyun leaned in to give me a kiss on the lips making me smile. Heejin acted like she was going to throw up.

Heejin: Don't be so sweet in front of me. I think I'm going to throw up.

Jahoon: Don't act like you don't do the same thing in front of me with Hyunjin every day.

Heejin: Alright alright! Let's go home now. I'm tired from fighting the whole day!

Jahoon: Whining like a small child. I will get going now.

I kissed her forehead and walked out of her home with Heejin. When we were a bit far away, I slapped Heejin in the back of her head.

Heejin: Ouch! Why did you do that?!

Jahoon: Tell me how did you guys know that I love Chaehyun and how did you find out where she was living?

Heejin: It is actually yourself who made us know. You acted suspiciously. You were smiling to yourself after coming here and also we noticed that your rounds were longer than normal, so we decided to follow you and found being with Chaehyun every single day for at least half an hour. We also happened to see you guys kiss so...

I could feel my cheeks getting hotter as I was embarrassed by the fact that they had followed me and found out about it. I slapped Heejin in the back at her head again. I ignored her whining and just continued home to the headquarters.
