Sunsets and Heartbreak

(Y/N) and Luka had made their way up to the bedroom they'd be sharing and did nothing but talk and kiss and dance and watch movies together while everyone else played on the beach, enjoying the clear ocean and warm breeze. It was impossible for Luka to ignore how happy his darling looked, they just looked so content and happy every time he placed a kiss on their forehead. He couldn't think of a moment where he was happier than this moment, and that notion was the most terrifying thing he'd ever felt.

"Luka, are you okay?" (Y/N) asked, placing a hand on his chest as they felt his breathing quicken, he had flinched at the contact, making (Y/N) pull back.

Luka blinked, shaking his head as his features softened at the look of his worried partner "I'm okay, just so happy with you I'm dreading this moment ending."

"Then don't worry about that right now," (Y/N) said gently, pulling him in for a kiss "Focus on me, focus on how pretty the beach looks outside- let's go outside. Let's watch the sunset and spend time with our friends."

Luka nodded, he couldn't shake the irrational anxiety, but he was damn well gonna try to. He grabbed his guitar while he waited for (Y/N) to change into their swimsuit and nervously plucked the strings, tuning it as he went.

"Luka," (Y/N) said, poking their head out from the bathroom "you sure you're okay? Do you need to be alone for a bit?"

Luka shook his head, being alone was the last thing he wanted right now "just antsy, too much energy than I know what to do with."

With a quirk of their eyebrow, (Y/N) went back to the bathroom to change, put on sunscreen, and do general beach prep "We could always play volleyball with everyone, it's a good way to get that energy out."

Luka waited for (Y/N) to come out of the bathroom without another word, throwing himself on the bed with a satisfied groan "I can think of other ways to get some energy out-" he said when (Y/N) came out, a smirk on his face

"Mind out of the gutter, Couffaine,"

"Whatever you want, darling" he said, pausing before he pouted "you're so far. C'mere" his voice warm and inviting like he wanted nothing more than to hold (Y/N).

They chuckled "What about the beach?"

"What about it? I'm here for you I could care less about where we are" Luka said, "although I do appreciate how much effort it took for you and your uncles to take all of us"

(Y/N) looked a Luka, fighting the urge to get into bed and just sleep the warm afternoon away with him. With a bit of their lip, they grabbed the sunscreen and towels "Beach time. But I'll give absolutely all of the affection you want when we get back?"

"Sounds like a plan" the boy said, rolling out of bed, taking his guitar and sunglasses as they went to meet everyone at the beach.

"Took you two lovebirds long enough," Milo said with a smile as the couple met up under the canopy Owen put up. Milo was sitting happily in a beach chair, a margarita in one hand and a book in the other "finally get sick of pawing at eachother?" He teased

"Never, but our dear (Y/N) missed everyone else," Luka said, kissing (Y/N)'s cheek "besides the beach is best when it's warm out"

"I hear you. The other kids are kind of all over the place but we're playing a volleyball match later of you care to join us." Milo finished talking and went back to his book.

Luka tilted his head in the direction of Juleka and rose and the two headed off hand in hand.

"Come on Juleka it'll be fun!"

"I don't know, I don't want to get may hair wet" Juleka said, self-conciously pulling at the long strands.

"Jules, I have a hairtie if you want it." Luka said, holding up his wrist as they approached. Juleka took it with a smile as the four wandered into the water.

Next thing (Y/N) knew, everyone was splashing eachother and squealing the laughter, (Y/N) blushed and laughed as Luka put them on his shoulders and Juleka put Rose on hers, they went round after round trying to knock eachother off until Luka and (Y/N) were the indisputable champions. Julekas hair was, in fact, soaking by the end of it but she couldnt find it in herself to care. Nobody even noticed the sun was setting until Owen called for them to eat.

Dinner was even better, Owen made a little bit of everything and it was a feast. Luka had checked his phone and frowned, but he tried to hide ot throughout the meal. He said he had to lay down in his room after because he ate so much, (Y/N) quickly going to join him.

As (Y/N) padded down the hallway, they heard Luka sounding distressed on the phone, muted sobs coming from whoever else was on the line.

"Adrien broke up with Marinette" (Y/N) heard Alya's voice. He must have it on speaker.

Luka's voice had a tone (Y/N) couldn't quite pick up "What? Is she okay? What happened?" (Y/N) heard shuffling as Luka spoke.

"I don't know, she said he just...couldn't do it anymore. He said Marinette was kind of obsessive and it made him uncomfortable and then there was something about his dad but she was too incoherent by the time she got here-" Alya said, (Y/N) could hear the sobbing get louder.

"Alya, I mean this in the nicest way possible, what does that have to do with me. You should be calling Juleka or Marinette's parents about this." Luka sounded angry, but (Y/N) knew he was hiding something. Hos voice was too restrained, too restricted.

"You're Marinette's friend, aren't you?"

"Well yeah but-" and that was all (Y/N) could hear. They were zoning out, panic taking over.

(Y/N) stood in the hallway in stunned silence. Adrien broke up with Marinette? Do they know eachothers identities? Is Paris going to be okay? Why did Luka say him and Marinette were still friends, she'd been ignoring him since she and Adrien got together. Is Luka some kind of backup plan? What's going on?

"Alya please just stop shouting" luka said "I never said Marinette was a bad person- I just said Adrien has a point and he's entitled to-"

"Luka Marinette's right next to me and you're gonna say Adrien was right to leave her?"

"I said he's entitled to leave a relationship he doesn't want to be in." Luka said, his voice strained. (Y/N) could hear a slight crack in his voice. "I don't have to listen to this. Tell Marinette I'm sorry she's upset but she lost this level of support from me a while ago" his voice was as cold as ice, (Y/N) heard some protests but they were cut off with a beep. (Y/N) heard a thud and Luka shout in frustration before collapsing into sobs.

Hearing him cry was the last straw. (Y/N) knocked before entering, shocked at the sight of his guitar strewn across the floor, Luka sitting on the bed with his head in his hands. His head shot up when the door closed again "(Y/N)- how much did you hear"

"I heard most of it," (Y/N) admitted as they sat next to Luka. He looked so fragile, like he could collapse if someone touched him wrong "Can I touch you?" With a nod, (Y/N) pulled him into their chest and played with their hair. "What's wrong?"

"I didn't help- I've never said no to someone like that. Am- am I a bad person? I just- it felt so much like she was trying to use me that I kind of lost it. Am I a bad person? I don't deserve you- I'm a monster." His breathing was getting rapid, he was going to have a panic attack. The sight was heartbreaking.

"You aren't a bad person, you are so far from it. You don't owe anyone anything, my love. Marinette hurt you. You don't have to go rushing to pick up the pieces if you don't want to." (Y/N) whispered, kissing his head "You deserve to pick who you want to help, you aren't a monster for enforcing boundaries."

"No, I'm a monster-"

"No, you're not-"

"What if i was still in love with her?" Luka said, his voice barely above a whisper.

(Y/N) froze, they could feel Luka pull away and get up but couldn't bring themselves to move "..what?"
