Winning

"You're goin' down, Reilly." Coach said and then grabbed my arm and we walked back to our own team.
"Let me go after 'em coach. Let me get 'em." Fulton was trying to convince him but Bombay wasn't budging.

Everyone else was agreeing with Fulton to but coach really was not having it.
"NO, we're better than them." He said and pulled everyone in together so that we could have a team chat.

"Look, look, it's time to play smart hockey. Duck Hockey." I was still really nervous about everything after I full on screamed at McGill, and some of it was aimed at Reilly to. Plus Adam clearly wasn't going to be able to finish the game.

"All right? Now we got the power play. So we're gonna hit them where it hurts the most. Up there." Coach pointed to the scoreboard. I had no idea what he was trying to prove by doing this but everyone else must have found it inspirational so I just went along with it.

"Fulton, you're on." Coach said and pointed to him next to me.
"Coach, they'll be rushin' him" Averman spoke up and he was right. If we put Fulton on the ice then there was almost a 100% chance that Reilly would see and put every single on of his player on him.

"Right." Coach said and then thought about it for a moment.
"Jesse make sure you give Fulton plenty of time. And if you know you can't give Fulton the puck, Maddi is gonna be stationed near their net so you can hit it to her for an easy shot."

I nodded my head and then actually though about it. I was gonna up at their net with all of them wanting to bash me for many reasons.
"Alright! Let's go!" Coach yelled and we were all cheering.

"Wait! Hold it!" We were about to get back on the ice but he stopped us again.
"Let's have fun out there alright?" He asked and we all started cheering again and we could finally get on the ice and finish the game.

At this point I didn't even care if we won or not because I just wanted one of their players to get hurt.to make up for Adam almost going concussed. We skated out to our opening spots and so instead of Adam in centre I was because it wasn't McGill this time but one of their different players.

Jesse was on my left and Fulton on my right. I had to make sure to get the face off and then manage to hit the puck right to Fulton for his shot. As soon as the puck dropped, I hit it and Fulton got it.

Now everything was up to Jesse to keep the Hawks away from Fulton and if needed, me. I was helping Jesse get the players away and we saw Fulton wind his stick up and get ready to hit so we brought the guys down with us as we dodged the puck.

We saw it flying in the air and all of a sudden the buzzer goes off and the goalie is in the net.
"Fulton you scored!! We're back in it!" I yelled and skated up to him. We all went up to the box to celebrate and coach just kept telling us to have more fun.

"If they weren't rushin' him before then they sure as hell are now." I stated and looked over at Reilly who looked like he was giving his players an ear full.  We got back out and were fighting for our lives but the Hawks ended up getting another goal so we were two behind again.

I wasn't sure if we were going to be able to make it back from this.
"Guys, guys, guys! Listen up!" Coach was trying to get our attention but nobody was listening.
"Everyone shut up for a second!" I yelled and managed to get them quiet for him

He nodded his head as a thank you and continued what he was trying to say.
"We have got to stay fired up, and we have got to stay focused all right? It ain't over til it's over." He stopped and then looked at everyone see if they could do something to get these points.

"Tammy, Tommy, let's show those Hawks something really different. Everyone listen closely." He explained the plan to us and made sure nobody else could hear it. Guy and Charlie were gonna get the puck close to the net then pass it to Tommy , while this was happening, Tammy would be distracting them with her amazing figure skating skills.

Once ready Tommy would shoot the puck to Tammy and she would Score. Guy would be there near the net just in case it missed.
"Coach it's a long shot, but I think it's gonna work." I said and then everyone went out onto the ice.

Tammy and Tommy did just as coach said and they got the goal which meant we were only one behind now. Everyone was cheering while everyone on the ice came back in to hear the game plan when Fulton and I saw one of the Hawks knock Tammy down.

I was gonna go out and do something but  Fulton stopped me.
"You stay here and continue playing the game. I'm willing to not play for you to play." He took his helmet off, skated onto the ice and towards where McGill was standing.

Fulton flipped him around, picked him up and threw him over the boards. Okay, I wasn't quite gonna do that but I'm glad someone did. McGill deserved it.
"Game misconduct, you're outta here son." The referee said and guided Fulton off the ice.

I gave him a quick fist pump before he was gone.
"I'm off coach." He said as he skated past.
"C'mon, he barely touched him!" He yelled but there was no use. Everyone saw what happened.

After that happened we all got back out there and just kept fighting for the puck. It didn't go in either net for ages but it just kept going up and down the rink.
"Oreo line!" Coach yelled and us in the box looked at him. He went up to Guy, Jesse and Terry.

I feel like calling people an 'oreo line' should be offensive but nobody was taking it that way so I just ignored it.
"Maddi! I need you to hear this to." Coach called me over so that I could hear what he was going to say.

"Alright. I want you to remember what we learnt. Ducks stick together right?" He asked and we all agreed.
"So let's see it. Show me the flying 'V'!"

"Alright!" We put our helmets on and coach called for a line change so the four of us could go out on the ice. It was us, and Charlie was staying on the ice. We got on the ice and while we waited for Jesse to get the puck up our end, we had to wait near the net.

Coach yelled out 'flying V' so Jesse came up behind our net with the puck and we all got in position. Jesse was in front, on either side of him was Guy and I, then behind me was Terry and behind Guy was Charlie.

We skated up the rink with each of us just passing the puck to each other to distract the other team. Once we got the Hawks all near each other, we spread out so we went further across the rink and while I had the puck, the others had the team cleared.

I skated closer to the net with Larson chasing behind me. I moved to the right and shot the puck as quickly as I could so the goalie couldn't comprehend it. The puck seemed to be going in slow motion, but I made it in and I skated up to Charlie.

"It's a tied game!" I yelled and we all cheered. We didn't have much longer left and if either team didn't get a score then we would have to go in overtime.

There was 15 seconds left and Charlie had managed to get the puck and was skating down to their net. Now was gonna be a horrible time for Spazway to come out.
"C'mon Charlie!" I yelled and skated behind him in case something happened and we ended up not having the puck.

Charlie made it just past their blue line when Larson skated up behind him and hooked his arm making him loose his balance and the puck in the process.
"C'mon! Call it!!" I yelled and the siren went off indicating the end of the game.

"It's okay you tried your best Charlie." I places my hand on his arm but then the ref came up to us and said that he was calling a penalty shot. My eyes shot open and I looked at Charlie.
"We have a shot at this." I smiled to him and he smiled back at me.

We all skated back to the bench to see who was gonna take the shot.
"Coach, penalty shot. Anyone on the ice can take it." The ref said and then skated away.
"Alright ducks. Who's gonna take it?" Coach asked and there was a lot of argument about who could do it.

"I think Guy should take it." Connie stated and she had a fair point. Guy was good and I would have loved if he took the shot.
"Me? I was thinking Maddi take the shot."

I looked at him as if he was crazy.
"No Guy I'm not doing that. I've quit to many times this year to be able to take the shot that could determine whether we win or not. What about Charlie?" I suggested.

This was a lot of pressure on him but I knew that he could do it.
"What about Charlie?!" Goldberg yelled towards me and I just stared at him .
"All he does is fan." Peter yelled and I was about to knock him over but coach stopped me and backed up my statement.

"Let him finish what he started." Coach said and looked at Charlie, but he was looking at me.
"We have a chance to win here Madds. And I know that Banksy would want you to take that shot and prove to those Hawks that you are better than them."

Everyone was agreeing with Charlie but I wasn't sure.
"I told you, I shouldn't."
"Yeah but you're the best damn player we've got. So, get out there and kick some Hawk butt." Guy said to me and everyone else was cheering me on.

"Okay Madds. Have you been practising that triple deke like I said?" Coach asked me and I nodded my head.
"Then you're all set. You may make it, you may not. That doesn't matter though. What matters is that we are here and you have a chance to make the shot."

"So, go get out there and shoot your shot." He gave me a pat on my shoulder and I skated out to the centre of the rink. I looked over at Reilly and he seemed to be laughing at me. I took that as a challenge.

I looked at the Ref and he skated over to me,
"Okay, now wait for my signal. Good luck." He told me and then skated over to the goalie to tell him the rules.

The ref blew his whistle and the goalie hit the posts of the net showing that he was ready. I took a deep breathe and started skating around the puck for momentum. I hit the puck and was hitting it back and forth as I was skating.

1, fake left........ 2, fake right....... 3, shoot......
I stared at the puck as it went forward and towards the top of the net. I thought I missed it, but it barely missed the top of the net and went in. My eyes widened as everyone started cheering and skating onto the ice. I was doing laps around the rink with my arms up in the air and cheering.
