The New Queen - Epilogue Part Two

I stepped onto the stage as the sun reached its peak in the sky.

Millions had gathered far and wide to witness this event.

I just wished that my parents had been there to see it.

Magi from all over the magic web cheered as I appeared before them.

The grief from my parents' deaths was still fresh in my mind.

I was wearing my family's ceremonial robes. They had been passed down for generations to each ruler.

I gazed out at the crowd, my hands folded neatly in front of my stomach.

"Jessica Divine," Uncle Matt stepped beside me and took my hands in his. The gathering silenced. "I have been with you since you were a little kid. I have watched you grow up into a remarkable young woman." He smiled fondly at me. "You remind me so much of your parents. They will be greatly missed."

I smiled back at him as he continued.

"I am proud to crown you as our new Queen."

I lowered myself down onto one knee, bowing before my uncle. Suddenly, white magic swirled around my head, forming the shape of a crown. After a heartbeat, the crown appeared on top of my head, shining in the midday sun.

"May Irene guide your soul and light your path."

The crowd exploded into cheers as I stood up.

Matt pulled me into a hug.

"I'm so proud of you, Cookie," He whispered into my ear.

"Thank you," I whispered back, tears brimming at my eyes.

With that, I exited the stage, leaving the cheering crowd behind me.

Amelia helped Spencer to his feet.

"I guess this is it," He remarked, taking hold of his wife's translucent hand.

"I guess so," She repeated. They began to walk in the direction of the lake.

Amelia sat in Spencer's lap, her head leaning against his chest.

Suddenly, two figures appeared in the treeline.

"Mom...?" Crystal ran to her mother. Her deceased brother followed closely behind her.

"Crystal." Amelia breathed, encompassing her daughter in a hug. Spencer followed her actions- hugging his son.

"It's good to see you," Crystal smiled at her parents.

"Likewise," Spencer stated with a grin.

"C'mon- let's go see everyone else!" Derek chirped, grabbing his father's hand.

"Woah- slow down! I'm coming." Spencer and Amelia followed their children out of the clearing and into the unknown.

Seven years had passed since my parents died.

I had ruled over the Magic Web by myself for those seven years.

Though three years ago, Henry asked me to be his girlfriend.

Already knowing our destiny, I said yes.

Now, I laid awake in my bed, dreading the moment that I would arrive downstairs.

It was my twenty-eighth birthday.

And God, did I hate my birthday.

Finally, after ten minutes of lying awake, I gathered the courage to hop out of bed. I rummaged through my closet and settled on my outfit.

It was a mix of my father's sweatshirt and my mother's jeans.

As I walked down the grand stairs and into the dining hall, I was met with a barrage of cheering as my family called out 'happy birthday's.

"C'mon- let's go have some cake." My boyfriend took me by the arm to the table.

Everyone, including my brother, began to sing.

I was briefly reminded of my twenty-first birthday.

I brushed it off as I blew out the candles to my massive cake.

"Happy Birthday, Cookie." Jason placed a kiss on my forehead.

So, we partied the day away- Matt left early since he thought it was a good idea to intoxicate himself.

Eventually, I was bone-tired.

"I think I'm gonna go to bed soon," I told my family.

"Alright- though there's one more surprise." Henry smiled at me.

"Seriously? Another surprise? I love you guys- really, I do. But I have been receiving presents all day. What-" I was stopped mid-sentence by Henry getting down on one knee.

I had not looked into the day that he would propose to me- it was the only thing I wanted to keep a surprise.

"Jess, we were kids when we met. We fell in love so quickly that I think the universe wasn't ready for us. I still think it's not ready for us. But now, I'm ready to change the world- with you. I love you more than anything in this life. Would you make me the happiest man in the world? Stand by my side forever- even after death do us part?"

That was so disgustingly cheesy.

"Yes, of course!" Tears slipped from my eyes.

Henry held me in his embrace.

We had planned to visit my parents after the party.

Honestly, I was way too tired, but I managed to follow Jason, Daniel, and Henry to the cemetery.

"Hey, Mom." I sat down at the foot of the grave. "Hey, Dad."

"Hey, Love Birds," Jason said, sitting down beside me. I chuckled.

"Do you see this?" I showed the gorgeous ring to the headstone. "Henry and I got engaged. Isn't that wonderful?"

"I promise to take good care of your daughter, Mrs. and Mr. Divine." Henry sat beside me.

"I miss you guys," I set the white roses that were in my hands on the ground. "I wish you were here to see how things have been with me in charge. It's never been so peaceful."

"We don't exactly know how they'll react to a human king, though," Henry commented.

"We love you guys." Jason stood up. "It's time for bed, everyone."

"You're not my Dad."

"Your dad is dead."

"He's your dad, too!"

"No, he isn't."

"Okay, well your biological dad is dead, so ha."

"It's a good thing. He was an as-"

"Watch your language before I hit-spit spackle the snot out of you."

"That is not the original quote- and you know it."

"Shut up."

With those final words, we appeared back at the Crystal Palace.

As I glanced at the ring on my finger, only one thought crossed my mind.

Maybe my birthday wouldn't be so bad anymore.

April 4th, 2041

Henry and I had been married for a month.

Honestly, I never thought that I could feel so much bliss.

I remember my mother telling me how much sex would change my future relationship.

And, for the millionth time, she was right.

Waiting as I did for my husband was the best choice I could ever make.

I leaned against the wall of the dining room.

A sudden shiver passed over my body.

That was odd.

I pulled out my phone and messaged my brother to make sure he was okay.

Of course, him being an early-bird, he texted back immediately.

If my brother wasn't in trouble....

Then who was?

I thought to myself for a moment before concluding that I should visit Nova.

They were my mentor, so it only seemed right to see if they knew about this.

Nova was widely considered the most mysterious Magi in the universe- just because of their ability to see so far into the future.

I always told them that they would make a good fortune teller.

As I entered their small, cozy home, I noticed that they were sitting in front of the couch.

Odd.

I shrugged it off and turned the corner.

I covered my mouth to muffle my scream.

Nova stared wide-eyed at the ceiling, a single bullet wound in their head.

I quickly stooped down to their side and pressed my fingers into their temples.

The memory was blurry- it was fading very fast.

But, unmistakably, I saw a girl who was about my age.

She had the same hair as Nova.

Her name was Stardust.

Nova's daughter.

The war wasn't over yet.
